Hello Baby Monitor Sound Not Working – (Complete Guide)

Note: Have you tried unplugging the baby camera unit from the power for a few minutes and connecting it back in?

1. Increase Your Monitor Volume Setting

increase your monitor volume setting

The first crucial step is to ensure that the Hello Baby monitor (parent unit) volume is not too low or muted.

  • The volume levels on Hello Baby monitor range from 0 to 5, where, 0 means muted and 2 is the default volume configuration, when unchanged.

To adjust the volume to an audible level (3–5), press the OK button and use the left ◀ and right ▶ arrow buttons to highlight the speaker icon.

Then, you need to press the up ▲ and down ▼ arrows to change the volume levels from 0 to 5.

We recommend trying volume levels 3, 4, and 5. If you still don’t hear sound, continue reading.

2. Verify Sound is Within the Mic’s Range

verify sound is within the mic’s range

Another crucial requirement is for your little one to be close enough to the camera’s microphone, so the baby’s cries can be picked up and outputted through the monitor.

The recommended distance is 10–15 feet, but we advise closing this proximity even further as long as the camera is out of the baby’s reach.

  • The closer the camera is to the source, the louder the picked-up sounds are going to be, hence set it up as close as possible to the baby’s crib.

Note: If your camera and parent unit are too close to each other, you may face audio noise, also known as “feedback”, causing additional audio problems.

3. Clean the Hello Camera’s Microphone

clean the hello camera’s microphone

The microphone of your Hello Baby monitor is located on the camera unit.

The location of the mic is on the front panel of the camera, near the lens. It’s a small hole that can easily get clogged.

If dust, debris, or anything else is actively clogging the microphone, the output from your Hello Baby monitor may be muffled, inaudible, or entirely gone.

So, a toothpick should save the day!

To clean the microphone you only need to unplug the camera from the power and very gently reach within the microphone hole using a toothpick.

Try to perform circular movements to take out any dust accumulation and remove potential foreign objects.

4. Exit the Monitor Two-Way Talk Mode

exit the monitor two-way talk mode

If you didn’t know, the Hello Baby monitor has the so-called “Two-Way Talk” mode, which can be activated by pressing and holding the button with a microphone icon.

The thing is–while holding the button, the Hello Baby monitor is muted, as it’s listening and the camera is outputting.

Hence, if you’ve recently used this mode, the button may be stuck, which you can confirm by checking whether you see a microphone icon on the display of the monitor.

So, give the Two-Way Talk button a few firm presses to ensure it’s not stuck and potentially unmute the Hello Baby monitor.

5. Check and Prevent Any Interference

check and prevent any interference

If you’re still facing the Hello Baby monitor with no sound issue, perhaps there is a nearby device that is working on a 2.4 GHz frequency.

These devices include microwaves, Wi-Fi routers, baby phones, and others.

So, if you have any devices near your parent unit or camera, it may be nice to relocate them to prevent interference.

  • Also, don’t keep your Hello Baby monitor near aquariums, Wi-Fi extenders, smart plugs, or any devices that work wirelessly, even via Bluetooth or IR.
