Why is My Blink Doorbell Blinking Blue? (Easy Fixes)

blink doorbell blinking blue

If you noticed your Blink doorbell blinking blue, don’t worry. This is just the doorbell’s way of indicating a particular activity that’s happening right now.

It could either mean that the camera’s “RING” button has been pressed or that the unit has initiated a motion recording of a moving object.

You can stop the blue light easily, but first…

Blink Doorbell Blue Light – What’s The Matter?

Both the regular Blink doorbell and the Pro versions have a total of 5 LED indicators, making it difficult to distinguish the status.

Let’s take a quick look at the blue indicators and what they say!

Blinking BlueA blinking blue means that the “RING” button of the doorbell was pressed.
Solid BlueA solid blue could mean one of two things:
The doorbell is currently recording.
The live feed is being viewed.
NoneNo indication of the Blink doorbell’s LED means that the camera has completed the setup and is paired to the Wi-Fi.

Although blue light is not particularly considered a problem, it can still be bothersome if it lasts longer than usual and drains the camera’s battery extensively.

How to Stop the Blink Doorbell Blinking Blue – 6 Easy Ways!

Note: Is the blue blinking light always there or occur from time to time?

1. Long-press the Doorbell “RING” Button

long-press the doorbell “ring” button

As mentioned, the blinking blue light of the doorbell means that someone has pressed the RING button and thus, is at your door.

The light might have remained there due to a temporary glitch in the system or a problem with the “RING” button.

  • To force-reboot the Blink doorbell’s system, press the “RING” button and hold it down for at least 10–15 seconds without releasing.

Note: Wait for the chime to ring twice before releasing the RING button and then check whether the blinking blue light is still there.

2. Check if the Live Feed is Being Viewed

check if the live feed is being viewed

Although viewing the Blink doorbell’s live feed causes the indicator to turn solid blue, it could sometimes be the reason why the Blink doorbell keeps blinking blue.

If multiple members of your household have access to the Blink mobile app, check if any of the participants are currently viewing the live feed.

How to Know if Blink is Detecting Motion?

Your Blink camera’s indicator could also turn blue in the event of motion detection, activated by a passing-by subject.

If so, access the live feed or check within the recordings to verify that the camera has actually picked up movement or that the indicator light has been a false alarm.

Note: False motion detections will not be captured and stored as a live recording.

3. Re-add the Blink Camera’s App Profile

Many users suggest that re-adding the camera’s profile from the app addresses underlying error codes causing the LED to blink in unusual patterns.

Of course, the persistent blinking blue light could be also an indication of a network error or issues with the app.

re-add the blink camera’s app profile

Follow these steps to re-add Blink from the app:

  1. Open the Blink app and navigate to the home screen.
  2. Tap on More and locate the Blink doorbell’s thumbnail.
  3. Select “General Settings” and tap on “Delete Device.”
  4. Head back to the homepage of your Blink application.
  5. Press “Add device” found in the top-right of the screen.
  6. Now, follow the instructions to re-add the Blink doorbell.

Note: All of your doorbell’s settings will be erased upon the removal of the device’s profile.

4. Power Reset the Blink Sync Module

power reset the blink sync module

The Blink sync module could be causing the Blink doorbell to flash blue light due to an unstable connection with the provider’s servers.

So, the sync module is an essential addition to any setup and neither of your devices will work without installing it in your home.

The blue flashing light could be indicating exactly that – a failed connection between the sync module and doorbell or the sync module and Blink servers.

4.1 Where to Find the Blink Sync Module?

The Blink sync module can be anywhere in your household, but technicians tend to install it anywhere near your home’s front door, preferably in the main hallway.

Search for a small, portable, router-looking device in your home and check if its LEDs are blinking.

4.2 How to Reset the Blink Sync Module?

Once you’ve found the module, locate where the power adapter goes and temporarily unplug it from the power for 30–40 seconds.

Once the module has properly cooled down, reconnect the cord and wait until all of the module’s lamps come on.

Note: While the sync module is unplugged, all of your Blink devices will temporarily lose signal!

5. Reinsert the Blink Doorbell’s Batteries

The Blink doorbell blinking blue issue may be caused by a fault with the internal batteries.

  • The Blink Pro doorbell uses two size AA, 1.5-volt, non-rechargeable lithium-ion batteries.

Upon starting to lose efficiency, the batteries may cause the doorbell to act irregularly, such as displaying unjustified LED statuses.

reinsert the blink doorbell’s batteries

Here’s how to reinsert the Blink doorbell’s batteries:

  1. Remove the doorbell from the mounting plate.
  2. Locate the battery compartment on the back.
  3. Now, carefully slide the battery cover upwards.
  4. Remove each of the batteries inside the device.
  5. Hold the “RING” button for about 15 seconds.
  6. Reinsert both batteries and reinstall the cover.

Note: If the doorbell continues to display the blue status light after reinserting the batteries, try installing a fresh set of AA, 1.5-volt batteries to test the functionality.

6. Reset the Doorbell to OS Defaults

A factory reset should be capable of clearing any software-related issues with the doorbell, such as the persistent blue light.

Similar to the battery replacement, you must remove the batteries to activate the reset.

reset the doorbell to os defaults
  • Remove the doorbell from the mounting, take out the batteries, and hold the small “RESET” button on the back for about 12–13 seconds.

Then, place the batteries back inside and wait until the doorbell re-synchronizes with the sync module.

Once the doorbell is back on the mounting plate, check if the blue light is still blinking.

Note: If the blue blinking light persists, consider reaching out to Blink customer support or getting in touch with the local merchant for a replacement.
