FIX: Blink Doorbell Already Registered To Another Account?

blink doorbell already registered

It’s concerning whenever the “Blink doorbell already registered” error prevents you from completing the setup procedure.

Well, here’s the deal: it’s like your doorbell’s already got a home. Most times, it’s just linked to another account.

No worries—we will check it out, break it loose, and set it up for you, quickly.

For example, your Blink could be already registered if it was:

  • Added to another Blink account or system.
  • You bought an already-used Blink doorbell
  • It was purchased from a third-party reseller.

“Blink Doorbell Already Registered” Error–Here’s How to Fix!

There are several conditions under which your doorbell will be registered:

  • You’ve added the doorbell to another account in the past.
  • The previous owner did not deregister the Blink doorbell.
  • You’ve bought the doorbell from an unsupported reseller.

All of these could be behind the Blink doorbell’s ominous existing registration.

So, to begin with, it’s crucial to rule out either of these possibilities and understand why your doorbell is registered.

Let’s start excluding the possibilities one by one:

Method #1 Deregister the Doorbell

deregister the doorbell

The first step is to verify the Blink doorbell is not connected to another Blink account of yours.

This is essential for anyone who wishes to resell the doorbell or give it to a friend because the Blink products can’t co-exist on two profiles simultaneously.

There are two steps towards deregistration:

  • System removal: Verify the system within the Blink account containing your devices’ profiles is permanently deleted.
  • Device deletion: Ensure that your Blink doorbell and Sync Module are removed from the app system it belongs to.

How to Delete a Blink Doorbell?

  • If your doorbell is online, open the Blink application then go to “Device Settings” → “General Settings” → “Blink doorbell” → “Delete Device”.
  • If your doorbell is offline, open the Blink application, tap the “Camera Offline” button, then press “Delete” and confirm the removal by pressing “Delete Device”.

How to Delete a Blink System?

  1. Open the Blink app and navigate to “Settings”.
  2. Next, tap on “Device and System Settings”.
  3. Scroll down to the “Delete System” in the tab.
  4. Now, press “DELETE” to confirm the removal.

All settings of your Blink doorbell will be erased as a result of the removal.

Upon re-adding the product, you must undergo the initial setup from scratch and reconnect your doorbell to Wi-Fi.

Warning: Deleting the Blink system will erase the profiles of all added devices!

Method #2 Factory Reset the Blink Doorbell

If your Blink doorbell says already registered, and you cannot complete the initialization, a quick and easy workaround would be to reset your doorbell to factory defaults.

Restoring your doorbell system requires factory resetting the Sync Module as well, which will entirely deregister your products.

This is a guaranteed way to deregister a registered doorbell.

Let’s start with a doorbell factory reset first!

How to Factory Reset a Blink Doorbell?

  1. Detach the Blink doorbell from the wall mount.
  2. Then, remove the battery compartment cover.
  3. Remove both batteries from the Blink doorbell.
  4. Hold “Reset” right above the SD compartment.
  5. After 10 seconds, place the battery units back.
  6. Wait for the doorbell to start and test the device.

How to Factory Reset the Blink Sync Module?

  1. Locate the Sync Module and find the small reset button.
  2. Insert a paperclip into the “Resetpinhole of the module.
  3. Now, press and hold the button for about 10–20 seconds.
  4. Release the button after the Sync Module has turned off.

Now, neither the doorbell nor Sync Module will be associated with a user account after the factory reset.

Ensure both of the devices are receiving a sufficient amount of power supply, before attempting to re-add the product.

Method #3 Contact the Previous Owner/Seller

If the account where your Blink doorbell is registered does not belong to you, you should get in touch with the previous owner or the seller of the Blink doorbell.

By acquiring the registration data, you will be able to deregister your doorbell, without having to perform the factory reset.

However, if you’ve bought the Blink doorbell from an unofficial retailer, you will need to get in touch with them since Blink customer support won’t be able to help you.
