Fortunately, solving the blurriness doesn’t have to be complicated, and this quick guide will teach you how.

Easy Methods for Fixing the Blink Doorbell Blurry Feed!

Note: Implement as many methods as possible!

1. Clean the Camera’s Lens

The foggy feed blurriness almost certainly comes from the state of your Blink doorbell’s lenses. 

Well, humidity, weather conditions, and even the accumulation of dust could all contribute to the blurry live feed of your Blink. 

That’s why the first step is to access the camera’s lens and clean it using a soft microfiber cloth.

How to Access the Blink Doorbell Lens?

• Step #1 – Use a thin paper clip tool to push into the release latch of the faceplate, and once it clicks, remove it from the mounting plate. 
• Step #2 – Now, uninstall the camera’s batteries and use the microfiber cloth to clean the camera lens of the Blink doorbell.

Warning: Do not use any liquids or rough materials to clean the Blink doorbell’s lens!

2. Try to Isolate the Humidity

Well, humidity is the leading cause for the blurry live feed of your Blink doorbell.

If the doorbell’s components are not secured to one another, the faceplate, and the mounting base, there will be a consistent fogging of the Blink doorbell’s optics. 

Here’s how to keep the humidity out of your Blink doorbell’s optics!

2.1 Reinstall the Faceplate

Push a small paper clip key into the release pinhole on the bottom of the faceplate.

Now, grip the doorbell’s faceplate using your hand and apply mild force until the faceplate separates from the base.

You can now securely push the faceplate back in to seal it.

2.2 Use a Piece of Electrical Tape

Many users suggested that securing the faceplate with electrical tape keeps the humidity out of the optics compartment.

So, ensure the faceplate is securely reinstalled with the base and stick a single piece of electrical tape to each side to secure it to the mount.

2.3 Install a Doorbell Cover

If you prefer a long-term solution for your doorbell’s humidity issue, we recommend purchasing a silicone sleeve for the doorbell through an online store, such as Amazon.

The cover material is designed to keep the doorbell’s hardware dry by “wearing” around the entire mounting plate. 

3. Weatherproof your Doorbell

To avoid further humidity-related problems and wear out of your doorbell’s hardware, consider several weatherproof factors, such as isolating it from rain, sun, and snow.

For example, you can place a protective cover above the doorbell to prevent rain from reaching the hardware through the faceplate’s gaps. 

You could also install a silicone sleeve, as mentioned in the previous solution, as long as it will keep the doorbell safe from the weather.

Tips to Weatherproof Blink Doorbell:

• Verify no direct sunlight shines on the doorbell.
• Cover the doorbell during rainy or snowy days.
• Cover the Blink during thunderstorms or winds.

Note: The longer your doorbell is protected from the weather, the longer it will function properly. 

4. Tighten the Lens’s Screws

If you’re still angry, asking why is my Blink doorbell camera blurry, then you should tighten the screws holding your camera’s lens panel manually.

This is recommended before accessing the lens compartment and unsticking the optics from the glue.

There are a total of 5 visible screws on the back of the faceplate, once it’s detached from the base.

Use a compatible Philips screwdriver to partially tighten the screws, reinsert the batteries and check if the live feed is improved.

Repeat the steps above until you’ve stabilized the camera’s optics and the blurriness is no longer visible through the application’s feed.

Warning: Always remove the batteries before working on your Blink doorbell!

5. Adjust the Doorbell Sensitivity

The motion sensitivity of your Blink doorbell is used to initiate recording events and defines the amount of movement required.

Regulating the sensitivity often helps with optic or lens issues such as blurriness, fogginess, smudges, and so on…

You can use the Blink app to adjust the sensitivity of the Blink doorbell.

Setting a low sensitivity means there must be more movement intensity in the camera’s activity zones for a motion event to be detected.

Here’s how to adjust the Blink doorbell’s sensitivity:

1. Launch the Blink app and tap on “More…”.
2. Go to “Motion Settings” within the menu.
3. Tap “Motion Sensitivity” from the options.
4. Select a value for the doorbell’s sensitivity.

Note: Setting the sensitivity between 1 and 4 within the app is considered “Low,” and between 6 and 9 is considered “High”.

6. Configure the Lens’s Focus

You can use the lens compartment’s screws to manually regulate the optics of the Blink doorbell camera.

The level of tightness defines the focus of the lens and whether your doorbell camera appears blurry in the live feed through the application.

You will need the following instruments:

• A small Phillips head screwdriver
• A small tool for regulating the lens
• Optional glue for securing the lens

Now, follow these steps!

Step #1 Remove the Batteries

Delete the batteries from your Blink doorbell to avoid potential issues with electricity.

You can access the compartment from the back of the faceplate.

Step #2 Separate the Faceplate

Well, continue to separate the faceplate from the mounting base after the batteries are removed.

You will need to get access to the lens compartment, which is on the upper end of the faceplate.

Step #3 Locate the Lens & Glue

The lens of your doorbell has a small amount of glue on each end for a more secure and stable installation.

Be careful when accessing the lens, as there is a wired speaker at the bottom of the faceplate panel.

Step #4 Adjust the Lens Focus

There are two ways of adjusting the Blink doorbell’s focus:

• Before assembly: Put the doorbell’s batteries back in while the lenses are still exposed and use the Blink app to regulate the feed until the blur is gone.
• After assembly: Reinsert the batteries, put the faceplate back on, and use the small tool to regulate the lens through the small opening on the side.

It is also recommended to use a small bit of glue to secure the lenses once they have been adjusted to have a clear view. 

Step #5 Reassemble and Test

Finally, reinstall all of the Blink doorbell’s components and check the camera’s live feed through the Blink app on your smartphone. 

7. Restart the Sync Module & Blink

The Blink doorbell’s blurriness could be caused by an improper synchronization between the doorbell and the Sync Module.

Experts at Amazon recommend rebooting both your devices to check whether the blurry image is on a software level or indicates a physical (HW) lens issue.

How to Restart the Blink Doorbell?

• To power reboot a hardwired Blink doorbell, flip off the power at the breaker box, pull the front cover off, and unwrap the chime wires from the hooks.
• To power reboot a battery-powered Blink doorbell, take off the front cover, open up where the batteries sit, and pop each battery out.

How to Restart the Blink Sync Module?

So, you can perform a traditional “power cycle” on your Blink Sync Module by disconnecting the electrical adapter for roughly 60 seconds.

In the meantime, check if all of the equipment is in good condition and plug the Sync Module directly into the power outlet without any extenders.

Note: Keep the Blink doorbell’s power supply cut for at least 60 seconds until it discharges fully!

8. Dry Up the Blink Doorbell

If it’s not the lens’s alignment that is blurring the live feed of your Blink doorbell, then it’s almost certainly the humidity.

Uninstalling your doorbell’s faceplate and positioning it next to any heat conductors helps dissolve the humidity much faster than anything else.

Hence, all you need is a heater blowing for a few minutes against the faceplate of your doorbell.

However, ensure the device is not right next to the heater, as this could damage the faceplate’s plastic and even melt it.

9. Factory Reset the Doorbell

A factory reset is probably the best thing you can do, especially whenever the Blink doorbell blurry feed is due to a software-level issue.

Whether you use a hardwired or battery-powered doorbell, the factory reset instructions are the same.

Warning: The factory reset will permanently erase ALL doorbell settings from the application!

How to Factory Reset Hardwired Blink?

1. Start by turning off the power supply at the circuit breaker.
2. Push the faceplate’s latch and remove it from the mount.
3. Next, uninstall the faceplate and untie the terminal wires.
4. Locate the “Reset” button on the back of the faceplate unit.
5. Hold the “Reset” button for approximately 10–15 seconds.
