Blink Doorbell Notifications Not Working? (Fix It Fast)

If your Blink doorbell notifications not working, you won’t know whenever your camera is detecting motion events.
This exposes your home’s security to a risk, which is unacceptable!
The DND mode on your smartphone and Blink’s “Snooze” option are the main suspects for missing notifications.
However, this may not always be the case.
Anyway, we are going to help you identify exactly what causes the notifications problem with Blink and walk you through the top solutions.
How to Fix When Blink Doorbell Notifications Not Working?
Tip: When you complete a solution, try triggering a motion by walking in front of the camera!
1. Check if Blink is Snoozed

Unlike other security systems, the Blink app allows for a temporary snooze of all notifications that are independent of other features on your device.
For example, if you’ve allowed all the notifications from the Blink app, activating the “Snooze” option overwrites it.
How to Know if Blink Camera is Snoozed?
You can check if Blink is snoozed or not by opening the Blink app and navigating to “Motion Detection” → “More” and checking the lower-right corner for a small, bell icon with a “Z” in it.
- It will appear on the left of the “Motion Detection” tab as long as it is active.
How to Disable Blink Notification Snooze?
To disable the feature, enter the Blink app, go to “Motion Detection” and tap on the snooze icon, to display what’s left of the snooze timer.
To deactivate the function, tap on “Apply to all devices” and then “End Snooze”.
Note: This will deactivate the snooze for all devices in your system!
2. Deactivate your Phone’s DND

If you’ve accidentally enabled the DND or Airplane mode on your smartphone, all notifications from the Blink app will be suspended until further notice.
Hence, even if there’s a motion event detection or an alert updating the terms & conditions of the application, you will not be notified.
- If you’ve enabled the Airplane mode, open the quick menu of your mobile and disable it from there.
- If you’ve enabled a type of DND mode, open the “Settings” app and search for a feature that mutes all notifications.
Older iPhones have a mute button on the side panel that when pushed inwards, suspends all new notifications.
If you have a newer iPhone (iPhone 15 and above), check if the button has been assigned with the “Mute” function and push it back towards the left.
3. Allow the Blink App Notifications

The reason why you’re not getting Blink doorbell notifications could be that you’ve disallowed the app to send alerts during the first launch.
Launching an app for the first time on both iOS and Android sends a permission prompt that you must allow, so if you’ve declined it, now is the time to correct it.
How to Allow Blink Notifications On Android?
- Open the “Settings” app and tap on “Notifications”.
- Scroll down and locate the Blink application below.
- Tap on the app then enable the “Notification” slider.
- Save the changes and test the camera’s detection.
How to Allow Blink Notifications On iPhone?

- Go to “Settings” → “Notifications” and scroll down.
- Locate the Blink app and tap to enter the settings.
- Set the “Allow Notifications” slider to the “On” side.
- Exit the options and test the Blink unit’s detection.
Also, provide the Blink camera with access to your local network through the “Notifications” tab.
If not, head back to “Settings” and enter the “Local” tab to find the feature there.
4. Resolve Detection Problems
Issues with motion detection will prevent the Blink camera from recognizing motion events and therefore send notifications through the app.
There is a variety of features within the Blink app that define how and when the camera picks up motion, and now we’re going to configure them!
Enable “Motion Detection”

Your Blink camera has a “Motion Detection” feature that can be switched ON/OFF respectively.
If disabled, your camera will not be detecting motion at all.
- To enable it, navigate to Blink app → “More” → “Device Settings” → “Motion Detection” → “ON”.
Arm your Blink Doorbell System
Arming your Blink system means you’re either not at home or asleep, thus, the doorbell will be on the lookout for motion events.
- To arm your system, open the Blink application and click on the “ARM” icon on the homepage.
Enable “Early Notification”
The early notification allows Blink to send a notification when a motion is first detected.
If not enabled, you will receive the alert after the motion detection ends and the clip is stored.
- To enable it, go to “More” → “Device Settings” → “Motion Settings” → “Early Notification”.
Adjust the Detection Sensitivity

Well, reducing the motion sensitivity of your Blink doorbell increases the amount of movement intensity required to trigger an event.
Hence, we recommend setting it between 6–9, which is considered a high value.
- You can adjust from the “Motion Settings” → “Motion Sensitivity”.
Shorten the Retrigger Time
The retrigger is the amount of time required between capturing two motions.
If, for example, the timer is set to 20 seconds, it will take Blink up to 20 seconds to send a new notification, in case the motion is still there.
- We advise setting the retrigger to the minimum value of 10 seconds.
Quick Tip: The feature can be adjusted at “More” → “Device Settings” → “Motion Settings” → “Retrigger time”.
5. Power Reset the Blink Doorbell
Sometimes, it’s not the notifications that are now working, it’s your Blink doorbell camera that is not capturing events.
This rarely happens, but when it does, it’s typically due to software issues.

So, we recommend reseating the batteries of the Blink doorbell to further calibrate the power supply and system settings.
Here’s how to do it:
- First, uninstall the mounting bracket of the Blink doorbell.
- Use a clipping tool to release the faceplate from the base.
- Locate the battery compartment found in the Blink’s base.
- Take both batteries out and wait for about 15–20 seconds.
- Place the batteries back in and test the doorbell functions.
The Blink doorbell uses two size AA 1.5 volt Lithium batteries that must be replaced every 2–3 months for optimal functionality.
So, if the doorbell is rebooting constantly or doesn’t work properly, perhaps, it’s the batteries that are no longer supplying electricity.
6. Update the Blink App’s Version

An outdated version of the Blink app could be causing issues with notification alerts and motion detection.
So, access the Google Play Store or App Store, navigate to “Manage Installed Apps” and locate the Blink app.
Then, check if there’s an “Update” button next to the app and if there is, tap to start the update.
Also, verify the smartphone is connected to a stable Wi-Fi instead of mobile data before starting.
In case updating the app doesn’t have any effect, go ahead and cleanly reinstall the entire thing from your smartphone.
First, uninstall it from the home screen and then download a clean copy.
Important: Also, ensure your Android or iPhone is also at the most current firmware version.
7. Reset the Doorbell to OS Defaults
The Blink doorbell’s factory reset procedure is fairly simple.
There’s a built-in “RESET” button on the back that calibrates all system settings and restores them to defaults.

It can help with power issues, firmware updating faults, or whenever the Blink doorbell notifications not working.
- To factory reset your Blink, remove the faceplate and hold the “RESET” button for 10–15 seconds while the batteries are inserted.
We also recommend re-adding the device’s profile from the app, after the reset concludes.
This contributes to a complete rewrite of the unit’s settings and addresses the notifications problem.
You can re-add the Blink doorbell at “Device Settings” → “[Your Doorbell]” → “Remove” and then “Add Device”.
