Blink Doorbell Not Working After Battery Change? (Fixed!)

blink doorbell not working after battery change

It could be frustrating if your Blink doorbell not working after battery change but don’t worry, this quick guide will help you decipher and resolve the problem.

If you’ve received the “low battery” notification and inserted a fresh pair into your Blink doorbell, and now it’s not turning or not connecting, this guide is for you.

Here’s what could be happening:

  • You are not using 1.5 V Lithium batteries.
  • The doorbell does not recognize the batteries.
  • A problem with the Wi-Fi or Sync Module.
  • An issue with the Blink application pairing.
  • Lost connection to the Blink Sync Module.

Blink Doorbell Not Working After Battery Change – Quick Fix!

Note: Are you sure that the new batteries are correctly inserted?

1. Verify You’re Using Lithium Battery

verify you’re using lithium battery

The first thing to know is that 2 x AA 1.5 V Lithium batteries are required since lithium cells are needed inside the doorbell.

The low-power Wi-Fi chip inside the doorbell uses the profile of Energizer lithium cells, hence if you insert alkaline batteries, the Wi-Fi module won’t work.

  • This primarily means that the doorbell might power on, but you will not be able to connect the device to your Wi-Fi router, or sync module.

If you don’t know whether the inserted batteries are lithium or not, check the packaging or label for “Lithium” or “Li-ion”.

If you don’t have lithium batteries, hands down, go purchase a fresh pair, and don’t waste your time in troubleshooting that wouldn’t work.

Your Blink doorbell’s Wi-Fi chip will not connect to Wi-Fi without the correct lithium voltage cells.

2. Jump-start the Doorbell’s Electronics

jump-start the doorbell’s electronics

If you’re confident that you’re using lithium batteries, but your doorbell seems unresponsive, a quick way to solve the problem is by pressing the “RESET” button.

  • Not holding it, just pressing it once!

If the Doorbell is working, holding the reset button will reset the device. However, we don’t want this, considering that your Blink doorbell is unresponsive after the battery change.

We only want to jump-start the device’s electronics (hardware), by single-tapping the RESET button on the back.

You need to dismount your doorbell though. The RESET button is located on the back, behind the cover, right above the batteries.

Note: If you accidentally factory reset your Blink doorbell, the steps in solution #4 will help you get it connected back.

3. Sign Out and In Your Blink Account

If your Blink doorbell is offline after a battery change, a simple fix would be to simply sign out and in your account in the Blink application.

 Yes, it’s actually that simple!

To sign out from your Blink app, go to the Settings page from the bottom right corner and scroll down to the “Logout of Blink”.

Then, you’ll be brought to the app login screen where you need to insert your credentials and hop back into your account.

4. Reboot the Doorbell, Router, and Module

If your Blink doorbell is turning on, but not connecting after a battery change, you may need to restart all of the devices involved in the setup.

reboot doorbell, router, and module

This includes your Wi-Fi router, Sync Module, and of course, your Blink doorbell.

  • To reboot your Blink doorbell, remove the batteries for 5 seconds and then carefully insert them back minding the polarities.
  • To reboot your Wi-Fi router, press the Power button on the back, and disconnect the device from the power for about 60 seconds.
  • To reboot your Sync Module, disconnect the USB-C power cable for around 60 seconds and reconnect it back to get it running again.

Your Blink doorbell should reconnect automatically.

Note: If your Blink doorbell won’t get connected, dismount the doorbell and bring it closer to your Wi-Fi router and Sync Module.

5. Re-Add Your Doorbell from the App

Well, if your Blink doorbell turns on and works but won’t connect to the Blink app, the easiest fix would be to re-add the device.

You will only have to remove the system of the doorbell from the application and then manually add the profile of that device all over again.

  6. Follow all the instructions to re-add the doorbell.

Note: If your Blink doorbell won’t pass the setup process, ensure that your Wi-Fi is accessible, as the problem may not be related to the battery change.

6. Connect the Doorbell with the Sync Module

If only your Blink doorbell camera not working after the battery change, and you don’t see the live feed, then your device has lost connection with the sync module.

Well, if your Blink doorbell did not properly connect with the Sync Module after battery change, you will only receive the motion detection notifications, and will not be able to see the live feed.

  9. Follow all the remaining instructions to complete the setup.

When your Sync Module is successfully added to your Blink application, the camera on the Blink doorbell should start working, sending live feed, viewable through the app.

If not, perhaps the issue is buried deep into the doorbell’s system, so continue reading ahead.

7. Reset the Blink Doorbell to Default

If your Blink doorbell not working after a battery change, the last thing you can do is perform a factory restoration of the entire system.

This will disconnect your Blink doorbell from the app and from the Sync Module, allowing you to set up the doorbell from scratch and possibly fix the fault.

reset the blink doorbell to default

Here’s how to factory reset your Blink doorbell in easy steps:

  1. First, you need to dismount the Blink doorbell from the stand/mount.
  2. Verify that the batteries are inserted and that the doorbell is working.
  3. Press and hold the “RESET” button, found right above the batteries.
  4. Release the button when you see the red flashing LED indicator light.

Your Blink doorbell is now reset. What we recommend here is to move the Blink doorbell inside, closer to the Wi-Fi router and Sync Module, and perform the initialization.

When connected, you can move the doorbell outside, put it on the stand, and hopefully experience no further issues.

Note: If your Blink doorbell is not turning on or connecting to the app, just try using a different and fresh pair of 2 x AA 1.5 V Lithium batteries–we recommend Energizer.
