However, these are the most frequent causes, but there are a lot more potential things involved!

8 Ways to Fix When Blink Doorbell Not Ringing On Alexa!

Notice: If you believe that everything is set up correctly, double-check the volume of the Alexa speaker (e.g. Echo Dot) and check if it’s muted within the app.

1. Link Your Blink Account to Alexa

Linking your Blink account to Alexa is among the necessary steps for establishing a successful doorbell-chime connection.

So, in order for your speaker to work as an indoor chime, the device must discover each other on the local network and that’s possible via linking (the same Wi-Fi).

Here’s how to link Blink to Alexa:

  1. Open the Blink app and navigate to “Settings”.
  2. Tap on “Account and Privacy” from the options.
  3. Press on “Link to Alexa” and follow the steps.

You’ll be prompted to continue the setup within the Amazon Alexa application, shortly after your Alexa speaker is recognized.

Do not close the app before the account linking says “Success!”.

2. Enable “Doorbell Press Notifications”

The “Doorbell Press Notifications” is what allows Alexa to sound each time your linked doorbell is pressed from the outside.

So, even with the doorbell assigned to your account and the Blink SmartHome skill activated, you must still enable this feature manually via the Alexa application.

Note: The “Doorbell Press Notifications” feature is disabled by default.

Here’s how to enable Alexa’s “Doorbell Press Notifications”:

  1. Open your Alexa app and tap “Devices” below.
  2. Now, tap on your Blink doorbell from the menu.
  3. Next, tap the “Settings” button in the upper right.
  4. Scroll down to the “Announcements” settings tab.
  5. Then, toggle the “Doorbell Press Notifications” on.

The feature is designed to specifically work with Alexa-compatible doorbells, such as your Blink product.

You can tap on “Announcement Devices” to manage the Alexa-enabled speakers in your configuration which will make a sound whenever your doorbell is pressed.

Note: We recommend checking this guide if your Blink doorbell notifications are not working!

3. Set up the Blink Alexa Skill

Well, even with “Doorbell Press Notifications” activated, your Blink doorbell will not ring inside, unless the Blink SmartHome skill is set up.

You can only use third-party devices with your Alexa speaker if you’ve linked the device over the respective Alexa skill.

set up the blink alexa skill

Follow these steps to set up Blink’s Alexa skill:

  1. Open the Amazon Alexa app on your phone.
  2. Tap “More” and then select “Skills & Games”.
  3. Type “Blink SmartHome” in the search field.
  4. Extend the options after the skill shows up.
  5. Tap “Enable Skill” from the options and wait.

If you’ve already linked your Blink account, the skill will activate right away, without having to also go through the Blink app.

Now, all features of the Blink doorbell will be transferred and accessible through the Amazon Alexa app.

4. Use an Identical Wi-Fi Network

It’s vital to remember that not pairing the Blink doorbell and Alexa speaker to the same Wi-Fi network could prevent the activation of Alexa’s Blink skill.

Fortunately, there’s an easy way to modify the Wi-Fi of both your doorbell and Alexa-enabled speaker.

Also, if your Blink doorbell is constantly going offline, this may prevent the Alexa speaker from ringing, especially if a ring is triggered while the doorbell is down.

We also recommend connecting both devices to a matching 2.4 GHz Wi-Fi network, as Blink’s Sync Module will not respond, and neither will the doorbell if switched to 5 GHz.

Note: Verify that your Blink doorbell is blinking in blue upon pressing the “RING” button, which is an indication that the button and ringing are working.

5. Change the Alexa Speaker’s Chime

A standard way to determine why the Blink doorbell not working on Alexa is to change the speaker’s chime.

6. Power Reset Alexa/Blink Doorbell
