Nanit Trying to Reconnect to Your Camera – Quick Solutions!
Before you start: Verify the “Bluetooth” and “Wi-Fi” features on your smartphone are activated.
1. Change Nanit’s Wi-Fi Connection
Chances are that the Nanit camera has simply lost connection to the router’s network.
You can effectively address the “Reconnecting…” message by restoring the camera’s connection to your Wi-Fi network and re-launching the Nanit mobile application.
Here’s how to change the Wi-Fi connection of the Nanit camera:
- Open the Nanit app on your phone and go to Settings.
- Tap the Nanit camera’s profile from the settings page.
- Next, tap the Advanced button in Nanit’s configuration.
- Select the (Re)pair your Nanit with your network tile.
- Connect Nanit to the Wi-Fi by following the instructions.
1.1 How to Identify Wi-Fi Network Issues?
If the camera is unpairing repeatedly, there’s a strong possibility of a network-related issue!
Here are a couple of essential tips to address potential problems with the network:
- Power cycle the network router by unplugging it temporarily.
- Ensure the service cable (ISP connection) is plugged firmly.
- Reduce wireless interference by relocating wireless devices.
- Ensure the Nanit camera is within 30–40 feet from the router.
1.2 Switch Nanit’s Wi-Fi Network Bands!
Unlike other baby monitoring installations, the Nanit camera is compatible with both the 2.4 GHz and the 5 GHz Wi-Fi bands.
In that regard, we recommend switching the camera Wi-Fi to either of the bands, to test if the connection fails.
- Your connection will be better on the 2.4 GHz Wi-Fi.
Tip: If you’re experiencing connection drops with other devices, get in touch with your ISP!
2. Reset the Camera’s Power Supply
Your Nanit camera may be failing to sync with the application due to an issue with the power supply.
Inconsistent electrical income could cause devices to reboot, power off, or cause the Nanit camera not connecting error to appear consistently.
That’s why the next step is to perform a power cycle of the Nanit equipment, by temporarily suspending the power supply.
Here’s how to reset the power supply of Nanit:
- Disconnect the USB type-C from the camera’s rear.
- Unplug the other end from the supplying A/C outlet.
- Wait for 30–45 seconds while Nanit is disconnected.
- Reconnect the USB cable to the camera and outlet.
- Wait until the Nanit cam turns on and check your app.
The Nanit camera may take up to 60 seconds to relaunch and connect to the Nanit application.
Hence, ensure your smartphone is within a considerable range of the camera and check for the message in the “Live” section of the app.
3. Re-Pair the Camera Over Bluetooth
In order to configure any of the Nanit camera’s settings, the device must be first connected to your mobile smartphone.
Well, the connection happens over a 2.4 GHz Bluetooth frequency, meaning a potential wireless fault with your phone could disband the pairing and bring errors.
To re-do the Bluetooth installation, you must rewrite the Nanit camera’s profile from scratch.
So, keep in mind that this procedure is different from a factory reset, but still resets all options.
Here’s how to re-pair Nanit over your phone’s Bluetooth:
- On your smartphone, enable and reset the Bluetooth feature.
- Next, open the Nanit application and go to the “Settings” tab.
- Navigate to “Add/Replace camera” then “Set up your Nanit.”
- Once prompted, pair with Nanit over your phone’s Bluetooth.
- Reconnect Nanit with the Wi-Fi and finalize the setup process.
During the setup, your smartphone must be within a 5–10 feet range from the camera, so it can be recognized over Bluetooth.
Important: Moving too far away may disrupt the connection and interrupt the setup procedure!
4. Adjust Nanit’s Bandwith Settings
Another way to address the Nanit connection issues is to regulate the Bandwidth adjustments of the camera.
So, we recommend setting the bandwidth usage selector within the app settings to “LOW” in order to test the camera’s connection quality.
Here’s how to adjust the bandwidth settings of the Nanit camera:
- Open the Nanit application on your smartphone device.
- Extend the side menu and tap on your baby’s settings.
- Tap “Network” and locate the “Bandwidth Usage” pane.
- Set the selector to “LOW” and exit the configuration tab.
Setting the camera’s bandwidth usage to “LOW” may have a slight impact on the display of the live broadcast.
However, if the camera is no longer disconnecting, then there’s a problem with your network’s speed and responsiveness.
5. Update Your Nanit App’s Firmware
The most common cause for the “Reconnecting…” error is the outdated firmware of the Nanit application.
If you haven’t enabled automatic app updates on your smartphone, then you would have to upload the latest version of the Nanit app manually.
5.1 How to Update the Nanit App On Android?
- Open the Google Play Store on your Android phone.
- Press on your profile icon in the upper right corner.
- Tap the “Manage apps & device” button from below.
- Select “Manage” and locate your Nanit app in the list.
- Check if there is an “Update” button next to your app.
- Optional: Press “Update” to start Nanit’s OS update.
5.2 How to Update the Nanit App On iOS?
- Access the App Store and tap “My Account” at the top.
- Scroll to the “Pending updates and release notes” tab.
- Next, locate the Nanit app in the list and press “Update.”
- Optional: Press “Update All” to update all installed apps.
Your smartphone must have a secure Wi-Fi or mobile data connection in order to update apps and search for new firmware.
If updating the Nanit app did not have any effect, we recommend reinstalling the app through the Google Play Store or App Store to acquire fresh software.
6. Restore Nanit to Factory Defaults
If the “Nanit trying to reconnect to your camera” error persists after all solutions so far, we recommend the factory reset, using the built-in Master Reset button.
Unlike re-adding Nanit from the app, a factory reset will erase the camera’s settings on a kernel level, allowing you to re-configure the device from scratch.
Here’s a step-by-step procedure to factory reset Nanit:
- Verify that the Nanit is receiving a stable power supply.
- Locate the “Master Reset” button on Nanit’s rear panel.
- Next, insert a tool that will fit through the reset pinhole.
- Press and hold the reset button for about 2–3 seconds.
- Release whenever the camera’s LED indicator flashes.
Note: Once initiated, the factory reset will take anywhere between 30–40 seconds to complete!
