Nanit Night Vision Not Working? (Don’t Panic, Easy Fix!)
When the Nanit night vision not working, this makes the cam’s observation ineffective during the nights!
If a traditional reboot doesn’t help and you’re riddled with why the “Night Mode” won’t toggle on, it’s often a result of unregulated room lighting, bad camera positioning, or operating system-related problems.
So, we’ve prepared the following solutions:
For a complete explanation of the solutions, proceed with the guide!
What Are The Best Ways to Fix Nanit Night Vision Not Working?
Info: Your Nanit camera’s LED should illuminate in red once the “Night Mode” comes on!
1. Verify the “Night Mode” Enabled
The “Night Mode” option of your Nanit camera can be manually regulated through the “Live” section of the Nanit application.
So, accidentally setting the feature to “off” will prevent the night vision from activating whenever the camera senses that it’s dark in the room.
Follow these steps to check if the night mode is activated:
- Open the Nanit application and go to the “Live” tab.
- Tap on the three-dot icon in the upper-right corner.
- Locate the “Night Mode” field in the settings menu.
- Ensure the “Night Mode” is set to “On” and then exit.
To verify that Nanit synchronizes properly with the application, check if the Nanit app is updated to the most current firmware version and clear the cache.
Especially if you’re on Android, clearing the cache may be extremely effective in resolving feature issues.
2. Regulate the Room’s Lightning
Well, your Nanit camera’s night vision will not activate unless the lightness level falls below a particular illuminance.
So, if it’s too bright in your baby’s room, even if activated, the “Night Mode” will not activate throughout the entirety of the night.
It’s best to test the feature while your baby’s room is pitch black, but you can still use the “Night Mode” as long as the light source is in the opposing corner of the room.
So, ensure the central lighting of the room is entirely disabled or set to the minimum setting.
3. Adjust the Nanit Camera Position
If positioned improperly, the FOV (Field of View) of your Nanit camera will not cover all of the baby’s room, resulting in the Nanit night vision not working issue.
Typically, there are a few recommendations for the proper positioning of the Nanit camera:
- Ensure your camera is as high up in the room as possible.
- Position the Nanit camera in a corner, so it has a full FOV.
- Check if there are solid objects covering the camera’s lens.
If, for example, your baby’s crib is in the corner of the room, it’s recommended to push the crib a little outwards and slide the camera’s stand in between the wall and the bassinet.
This way your Nanit camera will still have a complete FOV and monitor your child closely!
4. Verify Nanit Connection to the Wi-Fi
If the camera does not sustain a proper connection to the Wi-Fi network, enabling settings within the app will not have any effect.
You can effortlessly check the connection status of your Nanit through the app and redo the Wi-Fi setup in case there has been an issue.
Here’s how to reconnect Nanit to the Wi-Fi network:
- Open the Nanit app and extend the side menu.
- Tap on “[Your Baby]’s Settings” from the options.
- Next, tap the “Pair Nait with your network” below.
- Follow the on-screen steps to reconnect the Nanit.
Contrary to other baby monitoring units, your Nanit camera does support 5 GHz and the manufacturers even recommended it for best performance.
If your Nanit was connected with the 2.4 GHz band until now, make sure to pair it to 5 GHz for better connection quality.
What to Do if Nanit Won’t Connect to Wi-Fi?
If you’ve made certain that the night mode’s activation failed because of a Wi-Fi issue, here are a few simple steps to try:
- Unplug the network router for a full 30–40 seconds.
- Reconnect the service cable from the router’s rear.
- Check if there’s a Wi-Fi issue on your other devices.
- Position the Nanit device closer to the network router.
- Optional: Reset the router to factory default settings.
If your network is temporarily offline or you’re waiting on an answer from your ISP, you could test the Nanit camera on your smartphone’s hotspot.
Your mobile must remain within a 5–10 feet range from the cam, and all you need to do is check the hotspot’s password to pair.
5. Re-add Nanit from the Application
The Nanit night mode not working fault is a common indication of an issue with the Nanit app.
Commonly, most of the camera’s functions will deactivate if there’s an issue with the Wi-Fi connection or the online profile of the camera.
So, follow these instructions to re-add Nanit from the app:
- Access the Nanit app and tap “Settings” in the lower corner.
- Tap the “Add/Replace camera” field from the options menu.
- Select “Set up your Nanit” and redo the setup instructions.
Once re-added, all of your camera’s in-app settings will be reset, including the “Night Mode.”
After the re-adding is complete, it’s recommended to reboot the camera by unplugging it from the power supply.
6. Conduct a Complete Camera Reset
The complete camera reset is a solution recommended by the Nanit support team for any issues with the unit, including a failed activation of the “Night Mode”.
The factory reset instructions will vary based on your camera’s model, so proceed with the instructions accordingly!
Warning: All of your camera’s settings will be reset!
