How to Fix Nanit Clicking Noise? (Easy Solutions)

nanit clicking noise

We know how disturbing the Nanit clicking noise is, so in this quick guide, we’ll help you fix it.

Your Nanit may produce a clicking noise only when switching from a “Day” to “Night” mode.

The built-in IR lamp is designed to measure the room’s lightning level and responsively toggle either the day or night vision modes automatically.

The most effective solutions for Nanit’s clicking noise include:

  • Temporarily disable your “Night Vision” Nanit feature.
  • Regulate the baby room’s lightning to test the sensor.
  • Check if the Nanit app is on the latest firmware build.
  • Reset the Nanit camera unit to factory default settings.
  • Reach the hardware of the Nanit camera for inspection.

How to Fix the Nanit Clicking Noise In Easy Steps?

Note: Have you checked if the “Night Vision” mode of the Nanit camera activates?

1. Set the “Night Vision” Feature to “Off”

set the “night vision” feature to “off”

If the lightning in your baby’s room is inconsistent, the night vision mode might be transitioning at the wrong time and cause the clicking noise to be frequent and prolonged.

You can toggle off the “Night Vision” mode through the Nanit application used for the camera’s setup installment.

Follow these steps to disable the feature:

  1. Open the Nanit app on an Android or iOS smartphone.
  2. Navigate to the Settings tab and head to “Advanced.”
  3. Locate the “Night Vision” tile and extend the options.
  4. Set the feature to “Off” instead of the “Auto” selection.
  5. Exit the application and check if the clicking persists.

If adjusting the “Night Vision” mode did not help with the clicking, we recommend setting the feature back to “Auto,” as it is essential for monitoring over the night.

What is“Night Vision” and How Does it Work?

night vision and how does it work

When the “Night Vision” feature is set to “Auto,” your camera will automatically shift between “Day” and “Night” mode in response to the room’s lightning.

So, if the camera senses that it is already dark outside and so is in the baby’s room, the night vision will be enabled automatically.

Note: By itself, the feature allows the parents to view the camera’s live feed through a brightly colored black-and-white image.

2. Regulate the Baby Room’s Lightning

As established, your Nanit is making a clicking noise, it is an indication that the IR lamp (Night Vision) mode has been enabled.

For this step, we recommend turning on all lights in the baby’s room while the camera is activated, and you’re viewing the live feed through the app.

If the IR indicator of the Nanit camera detects that it is a day by activating all light sources in the baby’s room, the night vision mode will turn off automatically, only if it is enabled.

How to Test the Night Vision Mode Of Nanit?

If the clicking persists during the day, then eliminate all sources of light in the baby’s room while the camera is enabled.

Also, verify the night vision mode is set to “On” and check if the indicator will activate (click) once.

3. Update the Nanit App Firmware Build

Before we proceed with any of the more complex solutions, it’s strongly recommended to ensure that the Nanit app has the latest firmware version.

The activation failure of the camera’s IR and the clicking noise could often be related to a glitch with the Nanit app.

How to Update the Nanit App On Mobile?

  • Android: Open the Google Play Store, tap on your profile icon, go to “Manage Installed Apps” and choose “Check for Updates.”
  • iOS: Launch the App Store, go to “Profile” from the navigation menu, and scroll down to “Pending updates and release notes” to view all installed apps.

Important: Reinstall the Nanit App!

Instead of only clearing the cache, we recommend a full reinstall if the Nanit clicking noise persists.

This will re-add the unit from the app’s interface and address all the pending issues.

To reinstall the Nanit app on both Android and iOS, hold the app’s icon and choose “Delete” or “Remove This App”.

Then, you can install the app through the Google Play Store or App Store.

4. Force a “System” Reset On Your Nanit

As the clicking noise is rarely a hardware defect, restoring the Nanit camera’s settings to default values holds great chances of resolving the issue.

It takes less than 20 seconds to activate the factory reset and all of your camera’s settings and configurations will be deleted permanently.

Here’s how to perform a system reset on the Nanit camera:

  1. Verify that the Nanit camera is receiving a stable power supply.
  2. Then, find the recessed master reset button on the rear panel.
  3. Older models: Insert a sharp object to press the reset button.
  4. Newer models: Press and hold the surface of the reset button.
  5. Release the button after 5–10 seconds or once the Nanit blinks.
  6. Wait until the factory restoration is complete and test the camera.

Pro Tip: For additional efficiency, remove and re-add the Nanit camera’s profile from the app!

5. Access the Nanit Camera’s Hardware (Advanced)

If you’re still riddled with why Nanit camera clicking noise occurs, you may as well disassemble the camera for a thorough inspection of the camera.

As the IR sensor can only be replaced by professionals, you can still check for surface internal damage, only if your warranty has expired.

Follow these steps to inspect the Nanit camera for hardware damage:

  1. Locate the seam (gap) on the front and rear panels of the camera.
  2. Use an opening pick or a sharp and thin object to insert through.
  3. Carefully lift it upwards to detach the cover of the internal hardware.
  4. Next, remove both the rear and front cases of your Nanit camera.
  5. Utilize the Torx screwdriver to remove the 4mm T6 screws inside.
  6. Next, remove the rubber gasket after taking off the camera’s cover.
  7. Check for any burn marks or broken components inside your unit.

Warning: Disassembling the Nanit camera will void the active warranty of the product!

How to Locate Nanit IR Sensors?

If you didn’t spot anything unusual with the camera’s hardware but wish to have a look at the IR sensor instead, search right under the camera lens or use clicking as a navigation.

You don’t have to necessarily remove the camera’s battery while it is open, but make sure to disconnect the charging adapter.

Well, the IR sensor should be a small, spherical, and dark component, sitting underneath the speaker cover or camera lens, based on the Nanit model.
