Toniebox Green But Not Playing? (Don’t Panic, Easy Fix!)
Is your Toniebox green but not playing? Quite unlikely, but definitely possible in some cases!
Although the green light on your Toniebox indicates that everything’s good to go, the music box could run into a fault either way.
We’ve found that the problem is often related to a problematic Tonie, synchronization issues, defective ears, or software-related problems with your box.
So, here is everything you should do when Toniebox is green but not playing:
To unwrap how all these solutions are done, continue reading…
Toniebox Green But Not Playing – Here’s How to Fix!
Note: Ensure the Toniebox is charged to maximum capacity and at full capacity.
1. Reconnect the Tonie Character
The green indicator light on your Toniebox justifies that the battery has been charged, but there is no way of knowing if it has detected the Tonie.
The music box uses a magnetic surface to attach to the Tonies and access the database of the character that you’ve pre-recorded through the application.
So, take off the Tonie character, wait for at least 15–20 seconds, and place it back on top, while the Toniebox indicator LED is green.
How to Check for Tonie Attachment Issues?
So, if the Tonies do not stick to the top surface of the box, use a microfiber cloth to thoroughly clean the magnetic surface.
Wait until the magnet fully dries up, then test with multiple Tonies.
2. Sync the Toniebox with the App
Each Tonie adjustment or change of data done through the mytonies app or website requires a Toniebox synchronization.
As long as the Toniebox is properly connected to a Wi-FI network, the sync procedure takes anywhere between 1 and 2 minutes to upload all of the new content.
Here’s how to sync the Toniebox in easy steps:
- Verify the Toniebox is turned on and plugged into the charger.
- Pinch either of the Toniebox’s ears for about 3–4 seconds.
- Next, wait until the indicator light starts flashing in blue color.
- Wait until the LED’s green color restores and test the device.
Each Tonie character has a storage of up to 90 minutes, meaning that longer audio tracks may require longer to sync.
Warning: Do not unplug or pinch any of the Toniebox’s ears, before the synchronization is done!
3. Check the Toniebox’s Wi-Fi Status
The Toniebox green light but not playing error is a typical follow-up of a connection error.
If the music box has failed to establish a secure connection, neither will the content sync procedure work, nor the recognition mechanism for your Tonies.
Here’s how to check and reconnect the Toniebox in easy steps:
- Launch your mytonies app on your smartphone device.
- Navigate to the “Collection” tab and tap on “Toniebox.”
- Next, press on the image of your active Toniebox device.
- Tap the Wi-Fi icon in the lower-right corner of the screen.
- Pinch either of the Toniebox’s ears for roughly 5 seconds.
- Wait until 20 seconds have elapsed to hear an audio tone.
- Tap “Continue” in the app to advance to the Wi-Fi selection.
- Press “Join” on the pairing prompt to pair it with your phone.
- Select your home Wi-Fi network and pair the Toniebox unit.
How to Detect Issues with the Wi-Fi Network?
If the Toniebox fails to connect as well as some of your other devices, try the following:
- Unplug your network router for about 60 seconds.
- Relocate the Toniebox closer to the router’s range.
- Reconnect the service cable from the router’s back.
- Temporarily lower the security of the router’s Wi-Fi.
- Optional: Restore your router’s settings to default.
Tip: If your network is temporarily offline, you can test the Toniebox on your phone’s hotspot!
4. Test the Toniebox on Headphones
Connecting a pair of headphones to your Toniebox is an excellent way to figure out if the audio fault is with the Toniebox’s speakers or system.
The Toniebox is designed to automatically switch between inputs once an external audio device such as headphones is connected to the input.
The audio jack is located on the side of the Toniebox and requires a 3.5 mm AUX input jack.
Unfortunately, the Toniebox does not support wireless connectivity with external devices yet, so you will require a wired headset.
How to Identify Toniebox Headphone Jack Issues?
If you’ve used headphones with the Toniebox previously, but the audio does not restore after unplugging them, it could mean that the headphone jack got “stuck.”
As a result, the Toniebox believes that a pair of headphones is still plugged in and will never switch back to the speakers.
Note: To fix this, try reconnecting the headphones multiple times and check if there are physical obstructions in the audio jack.
5. Reset the Toniebox to Initial Settings
Regardless of the green light indicating that all of the Toniebox’s functions are online/working, a factory reset could eliminate the audio issue.
All of your music box’s data and settings will be restored to defaults and the LED’s color will shift temporarily.
Here’s how to factory reset the Toniebox to the initial settings:
- Ensure the Toniebox is connected to the charger.
- Turn the music box upside down while connected.
- Pinch both ears for 10 seconds to start the reset.
- Wait until the LED indicator of the box normalizes.
Reminder: Keep in mind that once the Toniebox has finalized the factory reset, you will have to complete the network setup from scratch.
6. Replace the Toniebox’s Ear Cable
Well, your Toniebox green but not playing issue could be a result of a defective ear cable!
The small jack lying underneath your Toniebox’s ears establishes the connection between the ears and the music box’s motherboard.
- If faulty, none of your Toniebox’s commands will work and neither of the Tonies will be detected.
Warning: Replacing the ear jack requires disassembling the Toniebox, voiding the warranty!
6.1 How to Access the Toniebox Hardware?
- Disconnect the Toniebox from the charger cable.
- Locate the rotatable wheel on the unit’s bottom.
- Push the wheel’s side of the box on a flat surface.
- Rotate the Toniebox toward the left with slight force.
- Once the wheel clicks, remove it from the Toniebox.
- Use a screwdriver to loosen the screws on the box.
- Remove the protective plastic from the bottom plate.
6.2 How to Locate & Replace Toniebox Ears Wire?
Once the Toniebox is disassembled, follow these steps:
- Locate the shaft where the Toniebox ears are attached.
- Unplug the ear jack from the panel of the Toniebox ears.
- After that, carefully pull out the ears, along with the jack.
- Unplug the other end of the ear jack from the Toniebox.
- Pull out the ear jack from the Toniebox unit and check it.
If the cable has visual damage or either of the ear buttons is defective, purchase a brand-new ear set with cable and install it on the Toniebox.
The cable jack is bundled with the ears, but you could always purchase a separate cable if the Toniebox ears are in good/working condition.
