Ultimate Toniebox Tips and Tricks – (Complete Walkthrough)

Disclaimer: Ensure the Toniebox is turned on and at full charge!

Tip #1 – Learn How to Skip/Restore Tracks

What many beginner Toniebox users do not know is that you or your child can skip the Tonies content by tapping either of the Toniebox’s sides.

Although this type of skipping forward feature might be confusing or difficult for some children to adapt to, it’s highly effective once you get used to it.

1.1 Tap on the Right Side – Skip Forward

If your child is already bothered with the current track, simply give the right side of the Toniebox a slight tap to automatically skip forward.

If you’re using a Creative Tonie, the Toniebox will skip to the next recording instead. Removing the Tonie Character or Creative Tonie from the box resets the queue.

1.2 Tap on the Left Side – Previous Track

If you didn’t hear the previous track quite well, you can give the Toniebox a tap on the left side to play the previous track from the beginning.

Keep in mind that removing the Tonie and placing it back on will reset the temporal memory and cause the Toniebox to “forget” what the previous track was.

1.3 Rewinding and Fast-Forwarding

Besides being able to skip or return the previous track, you can also rewind or fast-forward the current track for several seconds by tilting the Toniebox.

Simply lift the Toniebox off the surface and tilt it slightly to the left or right, based on whether you want to fast-forward or rewind the track.

Tip #2 – Your Toniebox Can Also Work Offline

If you are planning on bringing the Toniebox with you on a holiday or to a place without Wi-Fi, be mindful of the music box’s Offline mode.

This is among one of the best Toniebox hacks, as it is a perfect example of the Toniebox’s travel-friendliness and usefulness, no matter where you are.

2.1 Upload the Content While Connected

upload the content while connected

While the Toniebox is disconnected, it can only play Tonie content that is already downloaded.

This means that even if you refresh the audio library of one of the Tonies, it will be unable to synchronize with the box and play the new content.

So, while the box is connected, preload all of the content through the mytonies app or the Tonies website.

2.2 Switch the Toniebox to “Offline” Mode

switch the toniebox to “offline” mode

Activating your Toniebox’s “Offline” mode automatically prevents the device from searching for new Wi-Fi networks and allows it to play preloaded tunes.

To activate the feature, pinch both ears of the box for approximately 5 seconds and release upon hearing the audio signal.

Then, the LED indicator of the Toniebox will transition to white, indicating the successful activation of the “Offline” mode.

2.3 Use the Toniebox On Mobile Data

If you have enough data to spare, you can pair the Toniebox to your phone’s hotspot and download all of the content over cellular.

All you need to do is activate the “Hotspot” feature in your device’s settings, check the password, and reconnect the Toniebox to the cellular Wi-Fi.

Tip #3 – Operate Most Functions Through the App

operate most functions through the app

What’s amazing about the Toniebox is how well-organized the application and website are.

You can access all of the box’s functions and effortlessly adjust the volume, Tonie categories, and individual notification settings of the Toniebox.

Some of those settings include:

  • A volume controller: The built-in volume controller in the app’s “Toniebox” menu is a prime example of how convenient the Toniebox is.
  • Wi-Fi settings: You can manage the wireless connectivity of the Toniebox seamlessly by going to the “mytonies app” → “Toniebox” → “[Your Child]’s Toniebox” → “Wi-Fi icon.”
  • Custom Tonie settings: Each of your added Tonies has its own custom configurations tab, allowing you to access and configure each of the databases.
  • Advanced settings: Access and configure the advanced settings of your Toniebox, such as the “Tilt and tap” and the “Fast-forwarding/rewinding” functions.

Note: You don’t have to physically interact with the Toniebox to change most of its settings!

Tip #4 – Consider Purchasing a Creative-Tonie

consider purchasing a creative-tonie

While the Character Tonies are essentially fantastic for putting your child to sleep or entertaining it throughout the day, their storages only consist of premade tracks and audio.

With a Creative-Tonie, you will be able to record audio yourself or have another family member collect soothing words to play through the Toniebox!

How to Register a Creative-Tonie?

Similar to the registration of a regular Tonie, all you need to do is place your Creative-Tonie on top of the Toniebox for it to register automatically.

Then, the Tonie will appear within the app, granting you 90 minutes of free space for custom recordings of the child’s favorite tales or tunes.

How to Record on a Creative-Tonie?

Follow these steps to fill out the 90 minutes of your Creative-Tonie:

  1. Sign in to your account through the mytonies app or website.
  2. Next, navigate to the “Creative-Tonies” header in the menu.
  3. Find the new Creative-Tonie you’ve just paired with the box.
  4. Press on the Tonie/arrow icon found on the right-hand side.
  5. Choose “Add Free Content” or “Upload Your Own Files.”

Note: If you prefer uploading custom tracks to the Toniebox, tap on the “Upload Your Own Files” option and pick anything from your smartphone’s storage.

Tip #5 – Knowing How to Synchronize the Toniebox

The synchronization procedure may be unknown to newcomer customers of the Toniebox, as it is considered an advanced technique.

  • It allows quick transfer of the newly-uploaded content.

You should know that the Toniebox does not refresh its content automatically and making a change within the app or uploading a new piece of content requires re-syncing the box.

Here are the simple steps to sync the Toniebox with the in-app content:

  1. Make all of the necessary changes within the app or website.
  2. Ensure the Toniebox is turned on and plugged into the station.
  3. Pinch either of the ears for approximately 3 seconds to start.
  4. Release the ear once the LED light of the box flashes in blue.
  5. Wait until the Toniebox unit downloads all content automatically.

The synchronization will only work if the Toniebox has established a reliable connection to the Wi-Fi network, as well as the device where you installed the mytonies app!

Tip #6 – Use the Toniebox with Headphones

use the toniebox with headphones

One of the essential Toniebox tips and tricks is the Toniebox’s headphone compatibility!

What many of the Toniebox users don’t know is that the Toniebox can be used effectively with a simple 3.5 mm AUX cord.

Using the box with headphones can account for the relatively silent speakers of the device if your child wants to listen to a story in private or blasting at full volume.

Simply plug one of the headphones’ 3.5 mm cord’s ends into your Toniebox and allow the device to recalibrate automatically.

As long as the headphones are plugged in, all of the Toniebox’s audio can be heard through the headset.

Tip #7 – Knowing How to Reset the Toniebox

The factory reset is a convenient and helpful feature for any issues with the Toniebox.

Whether the box fails to recognize one of the Tonies or there’s an issue with the sound, all you need to do is perform a factory reset, for the problem to go away.

Collectively, here’s how to undergo a Toniebox factory reset:

  1. First, ensure the Toniebox is connected to the charging station.
  2. Turn the box upside down and press both ears for 10 seconds.
  3. Release the ears once you hear the audio prompt from the box.
  4. Wait until all network connections and content are entirely erased.

Warning: None of the data, settings, and configurations erased by the factory reset can be restored once the procedure is complete.

Tip #8 – The Toniebox Might Be Too Complex

If you’re planning to purchase the Toniebox as a gift to your 2 or 3-year-old, be considerate of the box and mechanism’s complexity.

Many young children may find interacting with the music box a bit too advanced, especially if your child is under 3 years of age.

We recommend starting with more simple toys and building your way up to a Toniebox once your child gets used to interacting with the toys intelligently.
