Currently, each Xfinity camera model can either be used with the regular Xfinity app or the Xfinity, based on the user’s preferences towards settings and options.
To ensure the camera functions error-free, you must ensure that the Xfinity app is on the most current version.
Let’s learn how to check for newer versions of the app on both Android and iOS!

- Tap on your profile icon in the upper-right corner.
- Next, tap “Manage apps & device” from the menu.
- Scroll down and locate one of the Xfinity platforms.
- After that, tap on the “Manage” button next to the app.

Note: If you’ve selected to update all apps on your iPhone, the Xfinity app will be queued amongst them and may not update immediately.
3. Troubleshoot Issues with the Network
The next step we recommend is eliminating all and any faults with your network equipment.
If the router keeps running into an issue or there are temporal service suspensions from your ISP, your Xfinity camera’s LED will immediately flash in orange, to indicate the fault.
Tip: Check if other devices connected to your local network are experiencing reception issues.
Hence, we recommend the following steps to troubleshoot the network:
- Perform a power cycle or a hard reset on your router.
- Reduce the overall bandwidth usage of the network.
- Reduce the amount of connected devices wirelessly.
- Check if there’s Wi-Fi interference between the router.
- Reconnect the service cable of your router or gateway.
Note: If your router, modem, or gateway is displaying an out-of-the-ordinary status lamp as well, consult with the ISP or check the user manual for further guidelines.
4. Allow Xfinity to Use the Local Wi-Fi (iPhone)
The most frequent reason why the Xfinity camera blinking orange when using an iPhone during the setup is permissions-related.
Hence, you must ensure the Xfinity app or Xfinity Home app has full access to your wireless network, through the iPhone’s system settings.
Note: App-related permission issues often occur on iPhones using iOS 14 and above.
Here’s how to allow the Xfinity app to use your local Wi-Fi:
- Open the “Settings” app on your iPhone device.
- Tap on the search field at the top to start typing.
- Type “Privacy & Security” and enter the first tab.
- Scroll down to the “Local Network” section below.
- Enter the tab and search for the Xfinity application.
- Ensure the activation slider next to the app is “ON.”
Note: Once all permissions have been granted, follow the instructions in step #1 to reconnect the Xfinity camera with your home network.
5. Test the Xfinity Camera on a Hotspot
A quick and effective method to rule out issues with your local network is to pair the camera with your iPhone or Android’s mobile hotspot.
So, the procedure remains identical to a regular Wi-Fi setup on the Xfinity camera end, but you would have to enable the mobile device’s hotspot first.
- To enable the hotspot on Android, go to “Settings” → “Mobile Data” → “Hotspot.”
- To enable the hotspot on your iPhone, go to “Settings” → “Personal Hotspot” → “ON.”
Now, search for the SSID of the hotspot as well as the user password. Well, by default, your device’s default model should be used as the SSID of the hotspot.
However, the password must be carefully rewritten, as it is generally randomly generated.
Tip: You can adjust the value of the user password in the device’s hotspot configurations tab!
6. Force a Factory Reset on the Camera
If you’re still having trouble with resolving the orange status lamp on your Xfinity camera, we recommend a factory reset.
All of your Xfinity camera’s settings will be permanently erased, along with underlying connection issues, communication discrepancies, or system problems.
To start a factory reset on your Xfinity camera, remove the Xfinity camera from the wall mount without unplugging the power and locate the “Reset” button on the rear panel.
Hold the button for a minimum of 20–25 seconds to trigger the factory reset and wait until the camera is done.
Once the reset is complete, you will find setup instructions within the Xfinity app, and you can test whether the orange light is still there.
