Wyze Cam v3 Not Recording Events? Here’s How to Get It Record Again!

If you’re concerned that important moments aren’t being captured because your Wyze Cam v3 is not recording events, well–we’re going to fix this here.
This is a common issue that many users are experiencing, and this quick guide offers practical solutions to resolve the capturing problem with your Wyze Cam v3.
How to Fix When the Wyze Cam v3 Not Recording Events?
Note: Have you checked if the recordings under “Events” have been filtered by accident?
1. Restart the Wyze v3 Camera
The Wyze Cam v3 may stop capturing events due to temporary issues with the motion detection or the Wyze mobile application.
So, restarting the camera can solve all types of issues with your Wyze camera and can be activated remotely through the app.
Let’s learn how to reboot the Wyze Cam v3:
- Open the Wyze app on your smartphone.
- Navigate to the camera’s settings menu.
- Select “Restart Camera” from the options.
- Confirm the restart from the app’s settings.
- Wait for the Wyze Cam v3 to start and test.
If rebooting the camera through the application didn’t resolve the recording problem, unplug the power cord for 30–45 seconds.
The Wyze Cam v3 relies on a hardwired adapter connection to receive power, hence, it doesn’t have a built-in, rechargeable battery like other security cameras.
2. Update the Wyze App & OS
Your Wyze camera will not start recording unless there’s a motion detection event happening right now.
An outdated firmware of either the app or the camera could interfere with the motion detection settings and prevent Wyze Cam v3 from recording.
How to Update the Wyze Application:
- Open the Wyze app, and go to the Account tab.
- Press on the “About” tile to view the app version.
- Update the Wyze app through your phone’s store.
How to Update the Wyze Camera Firmware:
- In the “Account” tab, select “Firmware Update”.
- Check for available updates for the Wyze camera.
- Install the newest firmware version for the camera.
After the update is complete, reboot the camera through the app and unplug the power cord for 15–20 seconds.
Then, check whether the recording problem is resolved by the firmware update.
3. Setup Local Video Capturing (SD Card)
Using a microSD card is a reliable way to capture footage on your Wyze Cam v3 if you don’t have a cloud subscription.
The footage recorded by the Wyze Cam v3 will be stored locally on the microSD card and accessible through the Wyze mobile app.
Here’s how to set up microSD recording on your Wyze Cam:
- Purchase a 32, 128, or 256 GB SD card for Wyze.
- Insert the microSD card into the slot under the flap.
- Launch the Wyze mobile application on your phone.
- Go to “Advanced Settings” →“Manage MicroSD Card”.
- Format all the SD card content through the options.
- Enable “Record to MicroSD” under “Advanced Settings”.
- Specify “Continuous” or “Events Only” in “Recording Mode”.
- View recordings via livestream “View Playback” or via “Events”.
Now, all of the recordings captured by the Wyze camera will be stored on your microSD card.
Upon reaching the card’s maximum capacity, we recommend enabling “Overwrite” to automatically remove the oldest recordings and make space for new ones.
Note: If Wyze runs into an error during the recording setup, check if the camera went offline!
4. Configure the Motion Detection
Improper configuration of the Wyze Cam v3’s motion detection settings could be the reason why the Wyze Cam Pan v3 is not recording events.
So, adjusting the sensitivity and detection zones ensures the camera does not miss a motion event.
Quick Note: Motion detection is required for both local-based recording and cloud subscription!
Option #1 Adjust the Sensitivity
This Wyze Cam v3’s sensitivity controls the percentage of pixel changes required to trigger the motion event.
A higher setting needs more action, while a lower setting captures slight motions.
Here’s how to adjust the motion detection sensitivity:
- Open the Wyze app, select “Camera”, and go to “Settings”.
- Press on “Detection Settings” to access the sensitivity slider.
- Adjust the slider between 1-100 to set the desired sensitivity.
Tip: We recommend increasing the sensitivity and moving in front of the camera to check if it captures the movement.
Option #2 Adjust the Detection Zones
The “Detection Zones” function defines specific areas for motion detection and ignores activity outside the zone to prevent unwanted recordings.
This helps focus on important areas like the doorway and porch while excluding busy spots like sidewalks.
Here’s how to assign the detection zones:
- Open the Wyze app and navigate to the “Settings” pane.
- Enter the Wyze options, then go to “Detection Settings”.
- Go to “Detection Zone” and draw the detection zone grid.
This configuration ensures the camera detects motion only in relevant areas for event recording.
If the Wyze Cam v3 is still not capturing, ensure the camera body is properly aligned with the specified detection zone within the app.
5. Check for Subscription Issues (Cloud)
The Wyze camera v3 might be recording events without you knowing about it, because none of the recordings appear in the cloud storage.
Hence, the next step is to verify the Wyze Cam v3’s Cam Plus subscription is activated and determine if it needs a renewal.
Note: Only proceed with this step if you use the Wyze Cam v3 with the Cam Plus subscription.
How to Check If Cam Plus is Active:
- Open the Wyze app, go to “Account”, then “Services”.
- Look for the Cam Plus subscription with a purple icon.
- Check the subscription’s expiry date in the field below.
How to Renew the Cam Plus Subscription:
- In “Services”, select “Cam Plus”, then “Edit Plan”.
- Choose to renew or upgrade the subscription plan.
- Follow the prompts to complete the payment process.
Don’t forget that each Cam Plus plan has different terms and allowances. Selecting the lowest subscription tier means less recording space for your Wyze Cam v3.
Carefully read through the terms to determine which plan works perfectly for your recording needs.
6. Disable All the Wyze Automations
The “Automations” function in the Wyze application can sometimes interfere with the motion detection and capturing of your Wyze Cam V3.
The function is intended for assigning specific recording requirements that might cause an issue with the Wyze camera.
In the Wyze app, navigate to the “Home” tab and tap on “Automations” to see all of the active automations.
Manually uninstall each of the active automations to negate any interference and ensure the Wyze Cam v3 records properly.
7. Deactivate the “Smart Detection”
The “Smart Detection” feature can cause the Wyze Cam V3 to miss events by prioritizing “AI” labeled motion and potentially overlooking important activities.
So, you can disable the function through the Wyze mobile application and ensure the camera is set to record all types of events.
Here’s how to deactivate “Smart Detection” in easy steps:
- Open the Wyze app and the camera’s live stream feed.
- Head to “Settings”, then navigate to “Event Recording”.
- Pick “All Motion Events” instead of “Smart Detection”.
- Disable the “Detection Settings” → “Smart Detection”.
- Save the changes and test the event capturing of Wyze.
Note: All recordings made thanks to the “Smart Detection” function will be flagged with “AI”.
8. Inspect the Wyze v3 Power Supply
A fluctuating power supply can prevent the Wyze Cam V3 from recording events by causing it to power off frequently, possibly during motion detection.
So, inspecting the power setup verifies that the Wyze camera receives consistent electricity.
Here’s what to check in the Wyze Cam v3’s power setup:
- Inspect the power cord for damage or fraying damage.
- Ensure the power cable is firmly plugged into the outlet.
- Test the Wyze Cam v3 on another functional A/C outlet.
Tip: We recommend testing the Wyze cam with a different adapter if you have a replacement!
9. Factory Reset the Wyze Cam v3
Well, if your Wyze Cam v3 is not recording events, even after all the solutions you’ve tried, this may result from a serious software glitch.
A factory reset restores the camera to default settings and resolves all underlying issues with the camera functionality, so it would be the best last step.
Let’s learn how to start the reset on Wyze Cam v3:
- Ensure your camera is plugged into power.
- Hold Wyze’s “Setup” button for 10 seconds.
- Release the button to start the reset process.
- Wait 30 seconds to 5 minutes for initialization.
This reset clears all settings, potentially resolving event recording issues on your camera.
After the reset, reconfigure all of the Wyze camera’s settings through your Wyze mobile application.
Note: If your camera continues to skip events, we recommend getting in touch with Wyze customer service for additional assistance.
