Well, if your Wyze Cam v3 not turning on, it’s often an indication of a failing power supply or firmware issues.

The camera should turn on right away and connect with the network as soon as it’s connected to a reliable power source.

The Wyze camera is among the most important components of your security installation, so if it’s not turning on, your security is compromised.

This is unacceptable, so keep reading to discover expert solutions!

How to Fix Wyze Cam v3 Not Turning On – 10 Quick Steps!

Note: Have you checked if the camera reboots or stays powered off at all times?

1. Unplug the Wyze Camera

unplug the wyze camera

Start with something simple, such as unplugging the Wyze camera from the outlet for about 30–45 seconds.

All of the Wyze cameras are intended for indoor placement, as they use a standard A/C power adapter, along with a micro-USB cable for a direct outlet connection.

Here’s how to ‘power cycle’ your Wyze camera:

  1. Unplug the camera adapter from the A/C source.
  2. Next, disconnect the USB cable from the adapter.
  3. Wait for half a minute until the camera is drained.
  4. Reconnect the USB cable with the A/C adapter.
  5. Reconnect your Wyze camera to the AC source.

Determine if the camera’s indicator will illuminate upon reconnecting your power adapter.

If it does, allow the camera to complete the boot sequence, which lasts for about 15–20 seconds.

If not, then it’s probably a fault related to the A/C outlet!

2. Alter the Wyze’s A/C Source

alter the wyze’s a/c source

Well, voltage shortages of the power socket might prevent the Wyze Cam v3 from powering on and getting past the initialization.

Hence, the next and most important step is to test if the Wyze Cam v3 will power on while connected to an alternative power source.

All you have to do is unplug the camera and relocate it next to another outlet.

Make sure there is no external equipment involved and that Wyze is connected directly to the outlet (no extenders).

Alert: Dividers, power strips, and smart plugs are prone to power shortages and malfunctions!

3. Force Camera into “Setup”

All Wyze camera products, including the Cam Pan v3 and the standard v3, have a “SETUP” button on the back that accounts for several functions:

  • Pressing the “SETUP” button once activates “SETUP” mode.
  • Pressing and holding the “SETUP” button resets the camera.

Upon pressing the button once, your Wyze camera should output an audio message that states “Ready to connect”.

If it doesn’t, then your camera’s operating system is most likely bricked, or the power supply is insufficient.

How to Access Wyze’s “SETUP” Button?

The “SETUP” button is located on the camera’s rear panel, so you don’t have to unmount it or remove it from the stand.

Simply press and hold the button for a maximum of ~3 seconds and check if the audio message will sound.

If it does, the camera will appear as “Online” within the app, and the error should be resolved.

If not, we can recommend other ways of supplying power to the Wyze camera in the next solution.

4. Power Wyze Over a USB

Many users suggest that getting past the Wyze Cam Pan v3 not turning on problem, is using a power source different from an electrical outlet.

All you need for powering Wyze over a USB is, of course, the USB cable and a TV or a gaming console that’s connected to the power supply.

Here’s how to set up Wyze’s external powering:

  1. Locate a 2.0/3.0 port on your TV or gaming console.
  2. Unplug the Wyze Cam USB cable from the adapter.
  3. Connect the USB cable to your TV or console’s port.
  4. Connect the other end of the cable to Wyze’s USB.
  5. Next, check if the Wyze Cam indicator will illuminate.

Note: Ensure the USB cable is connected securely on either of the ends, and keep your Wyze camera stand close to your TV or console while testing.

5. Check for Camera Overheating

So, extreme temperatures in your home or outside could contribute to an excessive temperature increase in the Wyze camera’s hardware.

The overheating causes the camera to enter a type of emergency mode, which prevents it from turning on for as long as the temperatures are high.

is my wyze cam v3 overheating?

Well, the simplest and easiest way to tell if the Wyze Cam v3 has exceeded the recommended hardware temperature is by placing your hand on the back panel.

The internal rechargeable battery touches the back panel, and if it feels hot to the touch, then Wyze could be overheating.

How to Prevent Wyze Overheating:

The most effective way to stop the Wyze camera from overheating immediately is unplugging it from the power source for 5–10 minutes

Long-term overheating solutions include:

  • Cleaning your camera from dust accumulation
  • Place the Wyze away from all heat conductors
  • Prevent direct sunlight from shining onto Wyze
  • Keep Wyze in a cool & well-ventilated position

Note: Overheating is prone to occur during the summer, but it could also happen anytime if the power supply of the camera is not stable.

6. Upgrade Wyze Camera’s OS

upgrade wyze camera’s os

As suggested earlier, Wyze could be refusing to function with an outdated firmware version or corrupted data.

The Wyze Cam v3 specifically requires manual updates through the mobile Wyze app.

So here’s how to check for a newer version:

  1. Open the Wyze app and tap the “Settings” button.
  2. Navigate to “Device Info” → “Firmware Version”.
  3. Wait until the application loads newer OS versions.
  4. Tap the “Upgrade” button to initiate the OS update.

There are several requirements for updating Wyze:

  • The camera should be connected to the internet
  • The Wyze camera must be receiving stable A/C

Note: Well, if there is no “Upgrade” option in the app, your camera is either up-to-date or not detected by the application.

7. Check for Application Issues

check for application issues

Problems with the Wyze application could also prevent Wyze from working properly.

Whether you’re on Android or iPhone, keeping the app up to date and clearing the cache (offloading for iPhones) is essential to preserving the app’s performance.

#1 Update the Wyze App

Open the app store of your smartphone, then locate the Wyze app within the “Installed Apps” page.

Check if there’s an available “Update” button right next to the app.

#2 Clear the Cache/Offload

Navigate to the “Storage” tab on your Android and clear the cache/data of the Wyze application.

If you’re on an iPhone, then head to “General” → “iPhone Storage” and locate the Wyze app in order to temporarily offload it.

Note: The Wyze app will not be usable on your iPhone while it’s offloaded.

#3 Clean Reinstallation

So, proceed via uninstalling the Wyze app, then download it again from Google Play or the App Store.

Sign in to your user account and re-add the Wyze by pressing on “Add Device” → “Wyze Cam v3” and scanning the QR code on the back panel.

8. Acclimatize Your Wyze Camera

acclimatize your wyze camera

Well, if you use the Wyze camera in a very cold environment, for example, outdoors in negative temperatures, the internal battery may fail to conduct power.

Hence, we recommend bringing the Wyze camera inside for roughly 15–20 minutes until the hardware’s temperatures reach a functional level.

This applies specifically to outdoor units or Wyze cameras used in cooler environments.

Alert: Watch out for condensation and don’t turn on the camera immediately after warming it up!

9. Replace Wyze A/C Components

There could be a fault with either the USB cable or the power adapter used in the setup of the Wyze camera.

For this step, we recommend using a replacement USB cable and an adapter individually to determine which of the components are faulty.

replace wyze a/c components
  • Replacing the USB: Unplug the USB from the adapter and install a compatible USB 2.0/3.0 replacement.
  • Replacing the adapter: Unplug the adapter from the USB cable and install a 12V-24V replacement.

When you’re ready, test the Wyze camera after replacing each component and determine if the fault is equipment-related.

10. Factory Reset Wyze Camera

If the Wyze Cam v3 not turning on after attempting all of the solutions we’ve discussed so far, it’s time for a factory reset.

All of your camera’s settings and data will be erased, but it’s the only way of telling whether the fault is on a hardware level or not.

factory reset wyze camera
  • To reset your Wyze camera, hold the “SETUP” button on the back for approximately 15 seconds without unplugging the camera.

If the reset is successful, the Wyze Cam v3 will reboot and appear as “Offline” within the app for several minutes.

After that, you must undergo initial setup by rescanning the camera’s QR code and overwriting the device profile in the Wyze app.

Note: If your Wyze Cam v3 is not turning on, no matter what you try, get in touch with Wyze customer service or try to claim your warranty.
