Wyze Cam v3 Cannot Connect to Local Network – 8 Fixes!

Note: Have you checked if the network router is online?

1. Ensure Wyze is on a 2.4 GHz Wi-Fi

ensure wyze is 2.4 ghz wi-fi

Note: This step only applies if you have a dual-band router.

The Wyze Cam v3 is only compatible with 2.4 GHz Wi-Fi, so attempting to connect with 5 GHz during the initial setup will result in a network timeout.

We will guide you through the steps of identifying the bands of your Wi-Fi router and connecting your Wyze with the correct network.

Step #1: Identify the 2.4 GHz and 5 GHz Wi-Fi

  • Open Settings, and tap Wi-Fi on your device.
  • Then, look for 5, 5G, or 5G GHz in the SSID.
  • Select the network without any “5” indicators.
  • You should look for 2, 2G, 2.4 GHz instead.

Now, enter the password for the 2.4 GHz Wi-Fi network, then tap “Connect” to change your smartphone or tablet’s Wi-Fi.

Note: Note down the exact SSID of the 2.4 GHz network.

Step #2: Change the Wi-Fi of the Wyze Cam v3

  • First, press on your camera within the Wyze app.
  • Go to “Device Information” in the settings menu.
  • Tap “Change WiFi Network” to update the Wi-Fi.
  • Follow the prompts to pair with a 2.4 GHz network.

The network list within the Wyze mobile application will contain both Wi-Fi bands of your network, even if Wyze is not compatible with 5 GHz.

Make sure to always tell the difference, even if the Wi-Fi threads have a similar hostname.

2. Power Cycle Wyze & Restart the App

A temporary glitch may prevent your Wyze Cam v3 from connecting to the local network.

That’s why we recommend a simple power cycle of the camera and a clean reboot of the Wyze mobile application to clear potential errors.

Let’s start with a camera power cycle first:

How to Power Cycle the Wyze Cam v3:

power cycle the wyze cam v3
  • Unplug the Wyze Cam from the power outlet.
  • Wait for ~5 to 10 seconds before plugging in.
  • Power on the camera and check the network.

How to Restart the Wyze App:

  • Force close the Wyze app on your device.
  • Remove Wyze from the temporal storage.
  • Reopen the app to refresh its connection.
  • Attempt to reconnect the camera to Wi-Fi.

Check the Wyze camera power equipment while the device is unplugged and identify potential connector or cable wear.

Malfunctioning equipment may lead to short circuits, startup issues, and cause permanent damage to your Wyze Cam v3.

3. Troubleshoot the Wi-Fi Network

The Wyze Cam v3 might not connect if there is an issue with your router or network, like being too utilized by third-party clients or set up incorrectly.

We’ve prepared several troubleshooting tips for Wi-Fi insufficiencies to restore the functionality of your local network.

troubleshoot the wi-fi network

Tip: Check the speed of your network at speedtest.net, before and after each step below.

3.1 Reboot the Network Router

Disconnect the router for 30 seconds, then plug it back in to give it a quick power cycle, which can resolve non-lasting issues that prevent Wyze from connecting.

3.2 Reduce the Network Load

Disconnect any devices you don’t often use from your Wi-Fi to reduce the overall utilization, so the 2.4 GHz network has enough resources for your Wyze Cam.

This can prevent the camera’s Wi-Fi connection request from timing out during the setup process.

3.3 Check the WPA/WPA2 Encryption

Sign in to your router’s settings using the default gateway, found by typing “ipconfig” in the Command Prompt (CMD).

Alternatively, try to sign in to your router’s GUI using admin/admin or admin/password.

Then, navigate to the “Wireless Settings”, and make sure your router is using WPA/WPA2 encryption since that’s what your Wyze Cam needs to connect.

If it’s set to something else, configure the option, then save the changes, and test the Wyze camera.

3.4 Reset the Wireless Router

Find the reset button on your router, hold it for 10 seconds to activate a factory reset, and then set up the 2.4 GHz Wi-Fi network.

This is a serious solution, and it’s only recommended if you are certain that the problem is with your local network.

Warning: All of your router’s settings and network configuration will be erased after the reset!

4. Flash the Wyze Cam v3 Firmware

The reason why the Wyze Cam Pan v3 cannot connect to the local network could be outdated or corrupted firmware, preventing a stable connection.

So, flushing the firmware manually via a microSD card can update the camera software and resolve connectivity problems effectively.

Follow these steps to flash the firmware of your Wyze Cam v3:

  • Insert a microSD card into your computer’s SD reader.
  • Navigate to the Wyze Release Notes & Firmware page.
  • Download the most current OS for the Wyze v3 camera.
  • Unzip the file, and rename the folder to demo_wcv3.bin.
  • Open the directory of the microSD card on your computer.
  • Upload the demo_wcv3.bin file to the SD card directory.
  • Eject the microSD card and power off the Wyze Cam V3.
  • Insert the card, hold the setup button, and plug in the unit.
  • Hold the setup button for 3 seconds, and wait for a flash.
  • Now, remove the SD card after the status light turns blue.

Now, wait for several minutes until the firmware file is uploaded.

Do not interact with the camera before the status lamp turns solid, and once it does, uninstall the demo_wcv3.bin file from the directory of the SD card, through your computer’s reader.

5. Reset your Phone’s Network Settings

Old Wi-Fi data on your phone or tablet might mess up the Wyze Cam v3’s connection by holding onto outdated network info.

Resetting the device’s network settings clears this data and allows you to start fresh with a 2.4 GHz network for your setup.

How to Reset Network Settings on iOS:
