Eufy Doorbell Camera Not Detecting Motion? (Fix it Fast)

A common issue users face with their eufy security system is when the eufy doorbell camera not detecting motion as it should.
This, by itself, defeats the purpose of having a high-quality monitoring system such as the eufy doorbell camera products.
This guide will help you diagnose issues with the doorbell involving the Wi-Fi, storage, motion detection settings, and push notification management.
So, let’s get started…
How to Fix eufy Doorbell Camera Not Detecting Motion?
Tip: Try removing eufy from the mounting plate and uninstalling the battery for 60 seconds.
1. Check Eufy’s Storage Capacity

Your eufy doorbell camera uses a microSD or an eMMC local storage to save your motion detection clips for later viewing.
If the storage is full, eufy should start overriding the oldest recordings, but this may sometimes cause problems.
That’s why we advise clearing some old recordings to check whether this will fix the issue!
How to Check eufy Local Storage? (microSD)
- Open the eufySecurity app and go to “Camera/Doorbell Settings”.
- Press on “Storage” and scroll down to view all of the saved clips.
How to check eufy eMMC Storage? (HomeBase/Wi-Fi Chime)
- Go to “HomeBase/Wi-Fi Chime/Wi-Fi bridge” in the app.
- Now, go to “Settings” and access the “Storage” tab below.
How to Clear Local/eMMC Storage on eufy Camera?

- microSD: Open the eufy app, go to “Camera/Doorbell Settings” → “Storage” → “Clear Storage” → “Format”.
- eMMC: Open the eufy app, go to “HomeBase/Wi-Fi Chime/Wi-Fi Bridge”, then “Settings” and “Storage”, to select “Clear Storage”.
Note: Upon reaching the storage limit, older eufy doorbells may start swapping the oldest clips with the most recent recordings.
2. Adjust Eufy’s Motion Settings
The eufy motion detection settings define how and when the eufy doorbell’s camera activates to capture a motion clip and registers it in the storage.
There are several crucial settings you must configure through the application for your doorbell to start picking up any motion appropriately.
Option #1 Motion Detection

The first and most important setting is your doorbell’s “Motion Detection” and “Camera” feature.
Activating “Camera” allows your doorbell to produce a live feed, whilst the “Motion Detection” is for capturing clips.
- You can adjust both of these settings by going to the eufy app → Doorbell thumbnail → Camera = “Enabled” and Motion Detection = “Enabled”.
Option #2 Security Settings
The security settings are used to receive notifications and alerts of your doorbell’s recording and behavior.
If not adjusted properly, you won’t be notified whenever your eufy starts recording and registers a clip in the storage.
- To adjust those settings, open the eufy app and go to “Security Settings” → Record Video = “On” and Push Notification = “On”.
Option #3 Motion Sensitivity
The motion sensitivity of your doorbell’s camera defines the intensity of movement required to engage a motion detection event.
If turned too low, your camera may not even pick up a human walking by, and if turned too high, eufy may even detect birds that are flying by.
- Hence, to adjust the option, open the eufySecurity app and go to “Camera Settings” → “Motion Detection” → “Motion Sensitivity” and set the sensitivity to “3”, “4” or “5”.
Additionally, you could engage the Motion Test Mode feature, to determine which detection sensitivity value works best for your doorbell.
Option #4 Activity Zone

Well, eufy allows the user to specify which areas of the camera’s POV will be used for motion detection.
For example, you wouldn’t want the camera to detect a leaf or an animal walking by and that’s why the detection area will be right in front of your front door and yard.
- To configure the activity zone, go to “Camera Settings”, then “Motion Detection” and “Activity Zone” to find and tap on the ⊕ icon, which adds and removes areas from the detection zone.
Option #5 Detection Type
The last but not the least important setting is the detection type.
This feature allows you to pick what type of moving objects your doorbell must capture.
You can pick from “Human Recognition”, “Human Detection”, “Vehicle Detection” and even “Pet Detection”.
- To adjust the feature, go to “Camera Settings” → “Motion Detection” → “Detection Type”.
3. Configure eufy’s Positioning

Perhaps, the eufy doorbell camera is not detecting motion due to improper positioning and partial field of view.
You would want the doorbell to face towards the street, with half of the POV being occupied by the entry to your home.
Additionally, verify the camera stands straight and isn’t tilted or in a horizontal position.
This will significantly impair the quality of the clips and even prevent the camera from starting to record.
Note: To adjust the eufy doorbell’s positioning, loosen the screws on the mounting plate and adjust it as you’d like.
4. Check eufy’s Wi-Fi Status
An inconsistent and fluctuating Wi-Fi will actively prevent eufy doorbell cameras from picking up motion and capturing live events.
That’s why it’s crucial to make sure the eufy doorbell remains connected to uninterrupted Wi-Fi at all times.
Before connecting, note the following:
- Wi-Fi eufy doorbells only support a 2.4 GHz connection
- There is no need to re-add the device to change Wi-Fi.
- The HomeBase 3 device doesn’t have a Wi-Fi option.

Here’s how to check Eufy’s Wi-Fi connection:
- Open the eufySecurity app and go to “Device Control”.
- Tap the “…” in the “Devices” tab for the Wi-Fi settings.
- Press “HomeBase/Wi-Fi Chime/Wi-Fi Bridge” in the tab.
- Tap “Connection” and then “Wi-Fi Setup” in the menu.
- Re-enter the password for your household’s network.
eufy Not Connecting/Disconnecting from Wi-Fi
If your doorbell fails to connect or loses reception repeatedly, try the following:
- Reboot the network router and unplug it from power.
- Check if there’s a nearby wireless device interfering.
- Reduce the overall bandwidth usage of the network.
- Shorten the distance between the router and the eufy.
Tip: Get in touch with your ISP if your network is consistently going offline or there’s an orange/red lamp on your router.
5. Adjust the eufy App’s Notifications

It may look like the eufy motion detection not working if you’ve accidentally suspended all notifications from the eufySecurity app on your smartphone.
Whether you’re on Android or iPhone, you must receive a notification whenever your doorbell engages a motion event.
How to Adjust eufy Notifications On Android?
- Open the settings and go to “Apps & notifications”.
- Press “Notifications” and scroll to “Recently Sent”.
- Find the eufySecurity app in the list of applications.
- Tap “Alerting” or “Enable Notifications” on the page.
How to Adjust eufy Notifications On iPhone?
- Open the “Settings” and navigate to “Notifications”.
- Find the eufySecurity app in the list of applications.
- Press “Notification Style” then “Allow Notifications”.
Note: From now on, each time eufy starts recording, you will be notified via a push notification on your connected smartphone.
6. Reset the Doorbell to OS Defaults

A doorbell factory reset will almost certainly restore the camera’s motion detection capabilities and eliminate errors with the registering of clips.
All of the doorbell settings will be erased as a result of the reset, resulting in an irreversible data wipe.
- To factory reset the eufy, hold the “Sync” button on the side panel for approximately 15 seconds, until the camera’s built-in LED blinks rapidly.
Shortly after the LED has flashed, your camera will begin the reset which should last for about 1–2 minutes.
So, do not engage with any of the camera’s functions or do anything within the eufySecurity app until the device reboots and becomes operational again.
eufy’s Doorbell Camera Still Not Recording?
