Note: Have you checked if the eufy doorbell is powered on and not offline within the app?

1. Ensure the Doorbell’s Camera is Activated

ensure the doorbell’s camera is activated

The first and most important thing to do is check whether your eufy doorbell’s camera is activated in the eufy Security application. You need your smartphone and the latest version of the eufy Security app.

Here’s how to turn on the eufy doorbell’s camera easily:

  1. Open the eufy Security app on your smartphone.
  2. Navigate to the “Devices” tab and find the camera.
  3. Tap on the banner of your eufy camera for options.
  4. Press the gear icon and navigate to the “Settings.”
  5. Ensure the slider at the top of the page is enabled.

The camera activation slider within the settings of your eufy camera will not say anything or have a description.

  • All you need to do is ensure it is in blue, meaning that the feature has been deactivated.

Tip: Perform a power reset on the eufy doorbell and ensure the device’s LED is lit up, meaning it is working all of the time.

2. Enable eufy’s Motion Detection/Detection Mode

enable eufy’s motion detection/detection mode

Another reason why the eufy doorbell not recording events is because of inactive motion detection.

Similarly to activating the camera, you can turn on your doorbell’s motion detection easily through the eufy Security app.

Here’s how to activate eufy’s motion detection mode:

  1. Open the eufy app and go to the “Devices” tab.
  2. Tap on the icon of your eufy camera from the list.
  3. Press the gear icon and navigate to “Settings.”
  4. Press “Motion detection” from the options below.
  5. Now, enable “Motion Detection/Detection Mode.”

Upon enabling the camera’s motion detection, a new tab of settings will become accessible, including the detection sensitivity and recording permissions.

If the issue is still there, proceed with configuring the motion sensitivity of eufy!

3. Turn Up the Doorbell’s Detection Sensitivity

turn up the doorbell’s detection sensitivity

Perhaps, the eufy doorbell’s camera is unable to start a recording due to a too-low detection sensitivity.

The sensitivity level defines how much motion is required for the eufy doorbell camera so it can start a recording.

For example, low sensitivity means that the doorbell would require more motion to initiate a motion recording event, and when it’s too high, even a passing bird could set off the eufy.

Here’s how to adjust eufy’s motion detection sensitivity:

  1. Slide the side menu and tap the “My Devices” tab.
  2. Select your eufy doorbell from the list of devices.
  3. Go to “Camera/Doorbell Settings” from the page.
  4. Tap on “Motion Detection” at the bottom of the tab.
  5. Turn up the sensitivity level slider from the menu.

We recommend setting the sensitivity anywhere between 50% and 60%.

This is an optimal configuration for your doorbell as it would pick up only the important motion events and not passing cars or animals.

4. Check if eufy is Enabled to Create Recordings

check eufy is enabled to create recordings

If the eufy doorbell camera is not recording events even after enabling the doorbell’s camera and motion detection, the issue is almost certainly related to the recording configuration.

Not allowing eufy to create and store recordings in the app will prevent it from picking up motion.

  • To check if eufy is allowed to create recordings, go to “Security” (lower right of the homepage) → “Home” → “Security Mode Settings” → “Enable Recording Video.”

Now, after making sure that the camera has enough sensitivity and all of the necessary settings are enabled, the device should start creating and storing the recordings automatically.

5. Reinstall the eufy Security Application

Perhaps, the eufy Security mobile app has run into an issue and requires a reinstallation for the doorbell to start working properly again.

The entire uninstallation process requires less than 30 seconds and clears all of the app’s cache.

reinstall the eufy security application
  • If you use an Android device, enter the Google Play Store, tap on your profile icon, go to “Manage Installed Apps” and uninstall the eufy Security app.
  • If you use an iOS device, hold the eufy Security app’s icon on the homepage, wait for the options to show, and select “Remove this app” from the menu.

After the app is successfully uninstalled, launch the App Store or Google Play Store and download the application again.

Sign in to your eufy account and if necessary, re-add the doorbell’s profile before reactivating all functions.

Tip: Ensure all notifications from the eufy Security app are allowed in the “Notifications” settings of your Android smartphone or iPhone.

6. Temporarily Set the Doorbell to “Disarmed”

Although this may not sound like a traditional solution, temporarily setting your doorbell to “Disarmed” or “Away” may resolve issues with the motion recordings.

Once again, this setting can be configured through the eufy Security app so ensure you have it installed with the latest OS.

temporarily set the doorbell to “disarmed”

Here’s how to set eufy to “Disarmed:”

  1. Open the eufy Security app and go to the “Security” tab.
  2. Now, scroll down and locate the “Security Modes” page.
  3. The app will have the following system mode adjustments:
  • “Home” – This option means that you or your family is at home and lessens the frequency of motion recording events.
  • “Away” – This setting signifies that you and/or your family have left and fully arms the system by activating all security functions.
  • “Disarmed” – Setting the system to “Disarmed” deactivates all functions of the doorbell and lessens the security.
  • “Customize” – Adjust the security modes to your will via custom settings and options.

So, we recommend setting the system to “Disarmed” and determining if the device will start recording events.

Many users of the eufy security system shared that the doorbell has managed to pick up all motions and start recording while set to either “Home” or “Disarmed.”

7. Restore the Camera to Default Settings

If your eufy doorbell camera not recording events, after everything you’ve tried, the factory reset might be capable of restoring eufy’s recording functions.

After the reset is complete, all of your camera’s settings will be restored to defaults, including all of the motion detection adjustments we’ve done so far.

restore the camera to default settings

To start the factory reset, insert a small pin or a paperclip into the “Reset” pinhole on the side of the doorbell and hold it for 10–15 seconds.

If the reset has started successfully, the device will produce an affirming noise, which means you must cease all interactions until it’s completed.

Note: If you continue to face issues with the eufy doorbell don’t hesitate to get in touch with customer service or contact the local merchant for replacement.
