How to Check Yoto Player Battery Level:
Before proceeding to the solutions for your Yoto Player charging issue, it’s smart to know how to check the remaining battery.
So, the player display gives you a quick peek into the battery level, which will help you check whether the player is charging throughout the troubleshooting guide.
Here’s how to check the battery level across different models of Yoto Player:
- Yoto Player 2nd Gen: Lift it off the dock, and the display shows the battery level.
- Yoto Player 3rd Gen: Remove it from the dock or cable, then check the display.
- Yoto Mini: Pull the charging cable, and the battery level will show on the screen.
- Not Charging: On: Short-press the power button without a card and then check.
- Off, Charging (3rd Gen): Quick power button tap, and the display reveals charge.
If your Yoto Player is connected to the charger and the battery level appears red, orange, or green, it means that it’s not charging.
When charging, the display must show a blue battery icon with a charging icon in the middle, as well as the approximate charge (how much it’s filled up).
Yoto Player Not Charging – 6 Guaranteed Ways To Fix!
Note: If you’ve just unboxed your Yoto Player and the battery has been exposed to the cold and hot extremes, let the battery acclimate for 15–20 minutes.
1. Hard-Reset Your Yoto Player
If the Yoto Player’s battery is dead or it’s just not waking up, a hard reset might be the quick fix.
It’s a simple button press that jump-starts the device back to life, so here’s how to do it quickly:
- Press and hold the power button for at least ~10 seconds, and don’t let go early!
Your Yoto Player should be back on, and the charging process should finally start working; so, connect it to the charger and check whether a blue icon will appear.
2. Allow Yoto to Charge a While
If Yoto Player has been gathering dust and you haven’t used it in a while, the battery might be completely dead, requiring some patience before it’s ready.
When you plug it in and check the battery level, if it’s not working, just let Yoto stay plugged in for a while before you check again.
The battery could be so drained that it needs ~10–15 minutes of charge time before you can even see the level or power it up.
Once you’ve given it some time, a blue icon should show, and you might even get a pulse from the device.
A dead battery just needs this charging time to wake up the device, and after that, you can check the level or turn it on.
If your Yoto Player is not charging even after 10–15 minutes, continue reading!
3. Switch the Charging Method
If your Yoto Player won’t charge, switching the charging method might reveal where the issue comes from.
A bad connection could be the culprit, so let’s try both ways of charging your Yoto.
3.1 Charging via Cable
- Yoto Mini and 3rd Gen Player use a USB-C cable. The mini’s port is found right under the power button, so plug into a 5V/1A charger (Smart Cable for 2021-2023 models).
- The 3rd Gen needs a USB-C charger (cable not always included). Hence, if you have a USB-C cable (used by many smartphones nowadays), try charging your Yoto Player.
3.2 Charging via Dock
- The 2nd Gen Yoto Player connects to its magnetic dock, so plug it in and set the player on top (remove the label first).
- The 3rd Gen Yoto Player uses a wireless dock (sold separately, 5W-15W Qi), so snap it on and check whether your Yoto is charging.
Reminder: Use the tips at the start of the guide to check for a blue battery icon, meaning that the Yoto Player is charging successfully.
4. Switch the Yoto Power Source
If the Yoto Player is still not charging, the power source might be the culprit.
The most important thing is plugging straight into a power outlet—no strips, extenders, dividers, or smart plugs.
Any of those third-party connectors can mess with the electrical flow, reducing the withdrawal of your Yoto and preventing the charging process.
So, whether you’re using a USB cable or dock, a clean, direct connection is key!
Important: Try a Different Power Outlet
If you haven’t tried already, try switching to a different power outlet in your home, again by using only a direct connection without third-party devices.
Quick Tip: Test whether the selected power outlet is working by connecting another appliance.
5. Factory Reset the Yoto Player
Yoto mini player not charging? A factory reset could be the best solution that will provide you with a fresh start.
This wipes all downloaded content and settings to factory defaults, hence, you may want to be cautious not to lose anything you wouldn’t want.
Here’s how to reset both the Yoto Player and Mini:
- Yoto Mini: Hold all three buttons until a red dot shows on-screen, then release within 3 seconds and press the orange button once.
- Yoto Player: Hold all three buttons until the night light pulses red, then release within 3 seconds, then press the orange button once.
Your Yoto’s back to factory fresh!
You’ll need to set it up again in the app, and this should resolve any issues causing trouble with the charting process.
Note: This doesn’t unlink it from your account!
6. Reconnect Your Yoto’s Battery
Tip: You can use the steps below to replace the battery if needed!
If your Yoto Player just won’t charge no matter what you attempt, there may be a loose battery connection that might be the quiet culprit.
The battery is connected to the motherboard via plug, and it’s quite easy to reconnect, but you’ll need a screwdriver to undo the screws on the way.
Warning: To reach the battery, you’ll need to disassemble your Yoto Player, which instantly voids the warranty.
Here are detailed steps on how to reconnect the Yoto Player battery:
- Unplug the Yoto Player from any power source now.
- Undo the four Phillips screws from the external case.
- Gently pry open the player case using a screwdriver.
- Then, unscrew two screws on each battery side next.
- Pull out the internal battery case to access the battery.
- Gently unplug the battery cable from the motherboard.
- Check for any signs of damage, such as burnt spots.
- Firmly reconnect the battery connector back in place.
- Reassemble everything and test charting your player.
There you go, the battery’s reconnected, and your Yoto should finally start charging when you connect it.
In case the Yoto Player is still not charging, perhaps the player battery is defective.
