How to Enable Yoto Player Night Light?
To enable the Yoto Player night light, flip the device face down on a flat surface—it’s that simple to turn on the nightlight.
Here’s a quick breakdown:
- Turn on: Place the Yoto player face down gently.
- Brightness: Turn the orange button to the right.
- Colors: Change the colors from the app Settings.
If it’s not working, let’s get into troubleshooting!
Yoto Night Light Not Working – The Best 5 Quick Steps to Try!
Note: Have you tried pushing the Yoto Player downwards to check if the night light will activate?
1. Increase the Brightness
If your Yoto Player’s night light isn’t working, it might be too dim to notice; hence, increasing the brightness could be the only thing you need to do.
The nightlight automatically turns on when you flip the player face-down, and a quick tweak with the orange button (right-hand side) changes the glow.
Here’s how to increase the night light brightness on your Yoto player:
- Flip the Yoto player face down.
- Check if the nightlight turns on.
- Rotate right the orange button.
- Watch the glow get brighter fast.
- Let go when it is bright enough.
Your Yoto’s night light should now shine brighter. If it’s still too faint or won’t light up, don’t worry; we’ve got more fixes coming.
Note: To change colors, head to the app’s Settings tab, tap the arrow by your player, and pick Day/Night mode hues.
2. Try a Different Surface
If the Yoto player night light is not working, the surface might be confusing its sensor, since flipping it face-down is how that light kicks in, after all.
The sensor on the front needs a flat, full-contact surface to register properly, so an uneven surface could be why your night light is staying dark.
Let’s test some new spots for your Yoto Player:
- Flip your Yoto face down gently.
- Find and use a flat, solid surface.
- Ensure that the front touches flat.
- Avoid uneven, soft surfaces here.
- Try to test on a table, not carpets.
The sensor is vulnerable to gaps or spots like rugs or pillows, so stick to hard, even ones like wood or a shelf.
If the nightlight is still not working, don’t worry; we’ve got some more tricks to try next.
3. Power Cycle Yoto Player
If your Yoto Player’s night light won’t glow, a power cycle can help, as sometimes it just needs a quick reboot.
The hard reset cuts power to the system, clearing glitches without wiping anything.
Here’s how to power cycle your Yoto player quickly and easily:
- Find the Power button.
- Press and hold it tight.
- Wait ~10–15 seconds.
- Wait for Yoto to restart.
Your Yoto Player will now reboot, and hopefully, when you position it down onto its face, the night light will start shining again.
Note: If your Yoto won’t restart, hold the power button for a bit longer, like ~30–35 seconds!
4. Charge the Yoto Player Battery
If you have woken up to find your Yoto Player’s nightlight OFF in the morning, a dead battery might have stopped the night light overnight while it was glowing.
Well, keeping the Yoto player powered up can prevent this from happening, and you’ve got two ways to do it—either charge it fully or keep it plugged in.
Here’s an in-depth explanation:
4.1 Charge Battery to 80%:
- For 2nd Gen: Connect it onto the magnetic dock (peel off the label first) and plug it into a wall socket for sufficient charging.
- For 3rd Gen or Mini: Use the USB-C cable (Smart Cable for 2021-2023 Minis) into a 5V/1A charger and charge past 80%, then flip it for night light mode.
4.2 Leave Yoto Plugged In:
- For 2nd Gen: Dock it on its charger or use the 3rd Gen’s wireless dock (sold separately, 5W-15W Qi);
- For Yoto Mini: It stays plugged via USB-C on the right side, so keep it connected all night to power the light without draining the battery.
Your Yoto’s battery should now hold strong overnight, keeping that night light glowing till the sun comes out.

5. Factory Reset Yoto Player
If your Yoto Player’s night light still won’t work, a factory reset might be the perfect opportunity to resolve any glitches with the device.
This wipes everything back to its original state, meaning that any downloaded audio will be permanently lost.
Here’s how to reset both the Player and Mini:
- Yoto Player: Hold all three buttons until the night light pulses red, and release within 3 seconds, then press the orange button once.
- Yoto Mini: Hold all three buttons until the red dot appears on-screen, release within 3 seconds, then press the orange button once.
The Yoto player is now completely clean and ready for a fresh start.
You’ll need to set it up again in the app, and hopefully, the nightlight will now start working.
Note: This doesn’t unlink the player from your Yoto account!
