  • Reset your Yoto Mini to defaults.

Let’s walk you through each of the steps…

Yoto Mini Not Downloading Content – Here’s How to Fix!

Note: Have you tried restarting the Yoto Mini and retrying to download the audio card’s content?

1. Plug the Yoto Mini to a Charger

plug the yoto mini to a charger

One of the main requirements of the Yoto Mini player to start downloading any content from the inserted card is to be connected to the charger.

So, connect the USB-C side of the cable to the charging port of the Yoto Mini player and plug the other side (adapter) into a working wall outlet.

The Smart LED cable will be lit up as an indication that the Yoto Mini player is charging. Another way to confirm the charging is via a short press of the Power button, showing the charging icon.

If you’re using a regular USB-C cable or a charging station, press the Power button to confirm!

Note: You may need to charge your Yoto Mini for around 10–15 minutes before the player starts downloading the contents of the audio card.

2. Optimize your Wi-Fi Connection

optimize your wi-fi connection

The Wi-Fi connection is the main requirement for downloading content from audio cards on the Yoto Mini player.

The contents are not stored locally on the card, instead, you need a Wi-Fi connection to download them from a cloud, where the card is only a gateway to it.

To quickly find out whether the Yoto Mini player is online, check the color of the time.

  • If it’s red, then your Yoto player is online.
  • However, if the time is in white, your Yoto player is now offline.

2.1 Test Your Wi-Fi’s Availability

If your Yoto Mini player is offline, the first step is to ensure that your router’s Wi-Fi is accessible by using your smartphone to connect.

So, disable the mobile data, connect to the same Wi-Fi as your Yoto Mini player, and try to surf the web to justify whether the wireless network is working.

If not…

2.2 Power Cycle the Wi-Fi Router

If your Yoto Mini player is offline, surely the downloading won’t work.

Hence, the next step is to restart your router by unplugging the device from the power for 60 seconds to refresh the Wi-Fi.

Note: Your Wi-Fi needs at least 2–3 minutes after the router restart to become online!

2.3 Shorten the Wireless Distance

shorten the wireless distance

The Yoto Mini player may be too far away from the network router, which can cause fluctuations in the internet supply, preventing the downloads.

So, one quick thing to do is relocate the Yoto Mini player closer to the router, preferably in the same room, and try to download the contents.

Note: If your Yoto Mini becomes online you’ll see a moon or sun on the display, based on the time of the day.

3. Download Content via Hotspot

If the Yoto Mini cards not downloading content, the next step is to entirely bypass your Wi-Fi and test via a different network.

Don’t worry, you don’t need a secondary router, you only need your smartphone (Android or iOS) with an available carrier plan and mobile data to share a hotspot.

download content via hotspot
  • Hotspot: A shared mobile internet from your smartphone, working like a portable Wi-Fi router!

Here’s how to share hotspots from Android or iOS:

  • Android: Go to Settings → Network & internet → Hotspot & tethering → Wi-Fi hotspot.
  • iOS: Go to Settings → Personal Hotspot → Allow Others to Join → note the Password.

How to Change Yoto Mini Wi-Fi?

Once you share the hotspot from your mobile device, you need to connect Yoto Mini to it:

  1. Open the Yoto app on your mobile device.
  2. Go to the “Players” option from the bottom.
  3. Press the cogwheel next to your Yoto Mini.
  4. In the Status pane, tap on “Manage Wi-Fi.”
  5. Tap the “Add New Wi-Fi” button to continue.

Then, select the Wi-Fi shared from your smartphone, insert the password, and pair your Yoto.

Quick Tip: If the downloading doesn’t start downloading automatically, re-insert the audio card!

4. Test via Different Yoto Mini Card

test via different yoto mini card

If your Yoto Mini just won’t start downloading, perhaps the audio card you’re using is damaged or is factory defective.

This is a rare occasion, but if you have a secondary audio card to test with, go ahead, insert it, and check whether the Yoto Mini will be able to download the contents.

If your secondary audio card’s content is being downloaded and added to the library, this means that the previous card is somehow defective.

Note: There may be a server issue with the specific audio content, so try downloading it later!

5. Reset your Yoto Mini to Default

If your Yoto Mini not downloading content from multiple audio cards, the problem is likely to be on a software level.

The easiest way to resolve the issue would be to perform the well-known factory reset process, which will reset the operating system to default and fix potential problems.

reset your yoto mini to default

Here’s how to factory reset your Yoto Mini to defaults:

  1. Press all three buttons on the Yoto Mini.
  2. You should see a red dot on the display.
  3. Within 3 seconds, release all the buttons.
  4. You’ll see an orange dot on the display.

When your Yoto Mini player shuts down, the factory reset has commenced.

After the reset, you will need to carry out the initialization process with the app and connect your Yoto Mini to Wi-Fi.

Warning: The factory reset will erase ALL downloads and unpair your Yoto Mini from the Wi-Fi.

6. Charge your Yoto Mini Overnight

charge your yoto mini overnight

Well, according to many users with the same downloading problem on Yoto Mini, the reason is sometimes on a server level.

Whenever the Yoto servers are overloaded, especially during holiday seasons like Christmas, downloading content may not be possible, at least on this day.

So, if nothing worked, the last thing to try is to charge your Yoto Mini overnight (without an audio card inserted) and retry to download the content tomorrow.

Note: If you can’t download the content, it’s time to contact Yoto customer service for more help!
