Why Does Hisense Roku TV Went Black? (Solve in Minutes!)

It can be frustrating when your Hisense Roku TV went black, leaving you staring into the void.
Don’t worry–the issue can be caused by a failing power supply, a backlight issue, a component problem, or even a hardware malfunction.
By the end of this guide, you will know a variety of possible solutions for the black screen on the Hisense Roku TV and know what to do next!
Hisense Roku TV Went Black – 9 Effective Ways to Fix!
Note: Have you checked if the Hisense Roku TV sound output is still there? To determine, press the “VOL +” button on the remote control multiple times to increase the output.
1. Switch the Hisense Roku TV Input
The Hisense Roku TV has a built-in “Input” button in the center of the bottom panel that brings up the source selection menu.
The black screen might be a result of accidentally switching the Hisense Roku TV to an empty input.
Since there is no separate input button on your remote control, press the “Input” button on the bottom panel of the TV once to bring up the source menu.
Now, even if the display is still black, try pressing the “Down” remote arrow on the remote control once, then press the “OK” button.
If the TV responds, although the screen is black, there will either be a change in the display pattern or the display will light up again.
2. Soft Reset the Hisense Roku TV
The soft reset is a simple solution that can resolve the Hisense Roku TV black screen in less than 30 seconds, as long as a failure of the hardware components is not involved.
All you have to do is unplug the TV and wait until all of the residual electricity is discharged.
Here are simple instructions to soft reset the Hisense Roku TV:
- Press the “Power” button on the TV remote control.
- Disconnect the power cable from the power source.
- Now, wait 45–60 seconds until the TV is discharged.
- Reconnect the power adapter to the source and wait.
- Turn on the TV and check if the black screen persists.
Verify that the power cable is connected securely on both ends, and then press the “Input” button on the bottom panel again.
Instead of pressing the “Down” arrow on the remote control once, press it 2–3 times, then hit the “OK” button to switch to another unpopulated input.
3. Unplug All External HDMI Devices
Perhaps the black screen on the Hisense Roku TV is caused by the failure of a third-party device that is connected to one of the TV’s HDMI inputs.
So, we recommend unplugging all devices connected over an HDMI or any video cable connection to the Hisense Roku TV.
Video cable connections include:
- HDMI cables
- Component cables
- Optical cables
We also advise against connecting any type of audio or home theatre system until the black screen issue with the Hisense Roku TV is resolved.
The only cable that must remain connected with the Hisense Roku TV during the testing is the power adapter.
4. Change the Hisense Roku A/C Outlet
Another cause for the Hisense Roku TV black screen is a power source insufficiency.
Connecting the TV to an unreliable power source could cause fluctuations in the electrical supply and lead to a variety of issues, including a persistent black screen.
- To check if the power source of the Hisense Roku TV is functional, connect another electrical appliance.
Now, relocate only the Hisense Roku TV and the power adapter next to another power source and use the remote control to test.
Well, if there’s a fault with the previous outlet of the TV, we recommend getting in touch with a technician, as this could pose a threat to your installation.
5. Inspect the TV for Overheating
The black screen could be a result of overheated hardware.
If so, the TV will enter a type of “emergency” mode that disables most components to reduce electricity consumption until the TV hardware temperatures stabilize.
How to Tell if Hisense Roku Is Overheating:
Often, symptoms of overheating may include excessive heat generated by the TV’s side, front, or rear panels and unusual buzzing of the power equipment.
If the overheating lasts for longer than several minutes, it could lead to irreversible damage to the hardware.
Alert: Disconnect the TV power cord immediately if there’s a symptom of overheating!
How to Prevent Hisense Roku TV Overheating:
General tips to prevent overheating include:
- Improving the TV ventilation
- Cleaning dust from the vents
- Dislocating heat conductors
Note: Also, be aware of direct sunlight flashing on the display or the rear/front panel of the TV.
6. Check for a Backlight Failure
If your Hisense Roku TV screen went black red light blinking, it is often an indication of an internal hardware component failure.
The backlight inspection consists of two essential steps!
Step #1 Conducting the “Flashlight” Test
To start, acquire a flashlight and position the TV in a dimly lit room after unplugging it for 10–15 seconds.
Shine the flashlight at an angle close to the screen (about 1–2 inches away) and look for a faint image or menu outlines.
If you see anything on the screen, the backlight isn’t working, indicating a failure in the LED strips or their power circuit.
Step #2 Inspecting the Backlight Segments
To confirm there is a problem with the backlight, remove the back panel by unscrewing it and gently lifting it off to reveal the LED strips along the edges of the display panel.
While the TV is on, use the flashlight again to illuminate the screen and check the strips for darkened or burnt-out sections and loose connectors.
Any of these signs point to a defective backlight needing repair or replacement.
Note: Use the TV warranty for repairs or contact a local technician for inspection if there’s a failure of the backlight.
7. Turn up the TV Brightness (Dim Screen)
If the screen is incredibly dim but not entirely black, you can use the flashlight method we’ve mentioned in the previous solution to navigate throughout the menu.
Access the “Settings” menu, then navigate to “TV picture settings” → “TV brightness” to increase the value.
The brightness can also be “Auto” to enable the TV’s ambient sensing feature that regulates the brightness according to the room’s lighting conditions.
So, if set to “Manual”, you can adjust the brightness intensity however you like, using the slider below.
Tip: Use the “Left” and “Right” arrows on the remote control to regulate the brightness slider!
8. Inspect the TV Hardware Components
When a Hisense Roku TV displays a black screen, it’s often due to a failure in one or more of the HW components critical to the display process.
These components work together, so if one fails, it can cause the screen to stop working.
- To access the TV hardware, remove the back panel by unscrewing the screws around the edges (typically Phillips-head) and gently lift it off to expose the components.
8.1 Inspect the T-CON Board
The T-CON (Timing Control) board is a small rectangular board usually found near the center or top of the TV, connected to the display panel via flat ribbon cables.
So, check for visible damage like burnt marks, swollen capacitors, or loose cables, and test functionality by reseating the connections—if the screen remains black, the board may be faulty.
8.2 Inspect the Power Supply Board
The power supply board, often a large board with capacitors and transformers, is typically found near the power input on the left or right side of the TV’s interior.
Look for bulging or leaking capacitors, scorch marks, or a burnt smell, and use a multimeter to test voltage output.
Inconsistent or absent readings suggest a power delivery failure to the display components.
8.3 Inspect the Display Panel
The display panel itself is the large screen component visible after removing the back panel and any protective layers, connected to the T-CON board and backlight.
Faults are challenging to identify but can include cracked glass, dead pixel clusters, or no response despite intact backlighting.
Verify that all connections are secure, and the display cannot be moved easily.
9. Manually Reset the TV System
If the Hisense Roku TV went black and won’t work even after attempting all of the solutions so far, you should try pressing the built-in “RESET” button on the TV.
All you have to do is ensure the Roku TV is connected to the power supply, then press and hold “RESET” for 5–10 seconds.
The “RESET” button can be found near the USB ports on either side of the TV.
Hold the button until the display pattern changes, or hold it for about 15–20 seconds to initiate the factory reset.
