If you keep reading, you will learn what the impact of the TV’s audio settings is and how external devices can affect the output. So, let’s get started!

Why is There No Sound On Hisense Roku TV & How to Fix It!

Tip: Have you tried playing different content on the TV to determine if the audio returns?

1. Adjust the Volume Level

adjust the volume level

The TV is not the only place through which you can adjust the volume if you have an external audio system connected.

That’s why it’s important to know if the volume is increased from all sources, including your soundbar or theater system.

To Adjust Your TV’s Volume:

  • Press the “VOL +” button on the Hisense Roku TV’s remote control.

To Adjust the System Volume:

  • Press the “Volume +” button on the system-dedicated remote control.

All external systems, whether it’s a receiver, a soundbar, or speakers, should have a dedicated remote.

There should also be a separate volume indicator on your third-party audio device’s screen or display that will appear upon pressing the volume buttons.

Important: Check if your TV or external audio systems are set to “Mute”.

2. Perform a Remote OS Reboot

perform a remote os reboot

You should input a key combination on the remote control that powers off your Hisense TV and refreshes all the settings.

It’s not considered a factory reset but rather a cache reset that should help with temporary or non-lasting issues, such as the volume loss problem you’re experiencing.

Press the following keys on the remote:

  1. Ensure the TV is turned on and at the homepage.
  2. Now, press the remote’s “Home” button 5 times.
  3. Press the “Up” arrow on the navigation pad once.
  4. Now, press the remote’s “Rewind” button 2 times.
  5. Finally, press the “Forward” button, again, 2 times.
  6. Wait until Roku cycles the options and then reboots.

The Hisense TV will reboot shortly after the display goes black, and right when it does, unplug it from the power supply, then wait for 60 seconds.

After the power has drained completely, reconnect the power cable and press the “Power” button on the remote to power on your TV.

3. Conduct a System Update

conduct a system update

Updating your system is a proven cure for the Hisense Roku TV no sound problem.

So, first, ensure your TV is securely connected to a Wi-Fi network, then use the remote to access the settings and start the update:

  1. Go to “Settings” from the homepage of the TV.
  2. Go to the “System” tab, then “System Update”.
  3. Wait until the Roku TV scans for new firmware.

If there’s a newer update available for the TV, it will start downloading right after accessing the tab, as long as the Wi-Fi connection is consistent.

Hence, do not power off the TV or press any buttons on the remote control before the firmware has finished applying.

4. Check for HDMI Issues

If you’re using an external device for audio output on your Hisense TV, be sure to inspect key factors like the HDMI setup and audio format.

A loose connection of the HDMI or an improper selection of the output device could lead to a lasting loss of the audio output.

HDMI Connection

Ensure the HDMI cable connects securely on both the output device’s end and the back of your TV.

Also, double-check if the HDMI cable connectors are in proper condition, and reconnect the cable for several seconds before plugging it back in.

HDMI Port

We recommend connecting the external audio system’s HDMI cable to a different HDMI port on your Roku.

The Hisense TV should have up to 3 high-speed HDMI ports, based on the model and year of production.

Replace the HDMI

Connect the external audio system using an alternative HDMI and check whether the audio output of your TV will be restored.

Note: If your system uses an Optical cable, double-check if the connections are secure and test with a different “OPT OUT” port on the main receiver.

5. Tweak the Audio Settings

tweak the audio settings

If you are still wondering why there is “no sound on my Hisense Roku TV”, it’s probably the improper configuration of the audio settings.

Features such as the audio mode, audio format, and default audio output could cause issues with either the TV’s or external device’s output.

To adjust the audio settings of the Hisense Roku TV, navigate to “Settings” → “Audio” using the remote control.

Audio Output

The audio output defines which audio source your Hisense Roku TV should use.

If there are no external devices connected over Optical or HDMI, it will be set to “TV Speakers”.

Note: We recommend setting the audio output to either “Auto”, “TV Speakers,” or the input of your audio system.

Menu Volume

Adjusting the slider under “Menu Volume” regulates the loudness of the TV’s menu sounds.

We recommend not adjusting the menu volume or setting it to about 50%.

Audio Preferred Language

audio preferred language

We recommend not to tweak the audio preferred language unless it’s not set to “English” or your native language.

Preferred Streaming Format

Set the preferred streaming format to either “Dash” or “HLS” for optimal performance of the audio and video synchronization.

Digital Output Format

Change the digital output format from its default “Dolby/DTS” default option to “PCM” for optimal audio output of your TV speakers or external audio device system.

Tip: If adjusting the above-mentioned settings did not help, reset all audio settings to defaults by going to “Settings” → “Audio” → “Reset” at the top of the page.

6. Reset Roku’s Audio/Picture

There’s a dedicated function in your Hisense Roku TV menu that allows for restoring the default state of all audio and video settings.

Unlike a factory reset, none of your TV’s installed channels or the registered account will be affected as a result of this reset.

  3. Press “OK,” then select the “Factory reset” option.
  4. Now, press the “Reset TV audio/picture” setting.
  5. Enter the confirmation PIN under the TV’s keypad.
  6. Now, press “OK” and wait until the reset is initiated.

Info: The TV’s options will be temporarily inaccessible after the options reset starts, so don’t press any buttons on the remote for the upcoming several minutes.

7. Test with Headphones/Speakers

One final way to determine if the Hisense Roku TV’s built-in speakers have failed is to connect an external audio device to your TV.

If you were attempting to get the built-in TV speakers to work until now, consider connecting headphones or a speaker to the TV.

test with headphones/speakers
  • If you’re testing with headphones, locate the 3.5mm jack on the back of the TV and plug the headset’s AUX cable.
  • If you’re testing with a speaker, locate the USB, HDMI, or Optical ports on the back of the Hisense TV and plug in the speaker system.

Now, navigate to the “Audio Settings” tab and adjust the default output accordingly.

Turn up the TV’s volume using the remote and check if the sound returns.

8. Format Hisense Roku TV System

If there is still no sound on Hisense Roku TV, we recommend a clean factory reset.

This type of formatting, unlike the options reset, will erase all channels and content on your TV, along with the registered account, so be very cautious and back up anything you would like to restore afterward.

  5. Enter the confirmation PIN under the TV’s keypad.
  6. Now, press “OK” and wait until the reset is initiated.

That’s it! Re-enter your Roku account and check if the TV’s volume has returned.

Alternatively, get in touch with Roku’s customer support, as there could be a hardware defect with your TV.

Note: The Hisense Roku TV will enter a factory reset state that lasts for roughly 40–50 seconds before it becomes operational again.
