  • Inspect the HDMI cable tips and TV/source ports
  • Check for resolution mismatch between devices
  • Test whether Roku settings are causing the issue

That’s only the tip. We’ve prepared many more things to attempt, so let’s jump into the guide!

How to Fix When Your Hisense Roku TV HDMI Not Working?

Note: Verify that your HDMI input device is powered on and working!

1. Verify the HDMI Input Source

verify the hdmi input source

You should begin by ensuring that your Hisense Roku TV is looking for input on the correct HDMI source.

For instance, if your source device is connected to HDMI 3, in the Roku “Inputs” menu, you should select the “HDMI 3” source, otherwise, you’ll only see a black/empty screen.

There are two ways to open the “Inputs” menu on Hisense Roku TV:

  • Remote: Press the Inputs button on the remote control, which is typically on the top right and has a “house” or “square + arrow” icon.
  • TV button: By pressing the built-in TV button once, typically located on the underside of the TV screen (left, middle, or right), you’ll bring up the “Inputs” menu.

If you’re using the remote, use the arrows to scroll down and select the correct HDMI source of your input device by pressing “OK”.

If you use the built-in TV button, you can move down by tapping the button, and once the correct HDMI is highlighted, stop tapping in order to select it.

Note: To verify which HDMI source your device is plugged into, check the labels on the back of your Hisense TV (HDMI 1 ARC, HDMI 2, or HDMI 3). Alternatively, try all HDMI input sources.

2. Unplug All Other Video Inputs

unplug all other video inputs

If Hisense Roku TV does not show a picture even when you choose the correct HDMI source from the “Inputs” menu, the TV is probably prioritizing another connection.

To avoid this, you must disconnect ALL other cables from the back of your TV, just temporarily, to test the HDMI.

You should only leave the power cable and the problematic HDMI input, and if the picture shows up, it means there’s a conflict with another connection.

So, to identify exactly where the problem comes from, start reconnecting the input wires one by one while viewing the HDMI input source.

3. Check the HDMI Cable & Port

If your Hisense Roku TV HDMI ports not working, perhaps the problem comes from the HDMI cable or HDMI port, so let’s walk you through a thorough inspection.

Starting with the most important…

3.1 Clean the HDMI Connectors & Ports

clean the hdmi connectors & ports

First, disconnect the HDMI cable on both sides.

Then, grab a toothpick and gently clean the insides of both connectors to ensure no obstructions.

Next, do the same with the HDMI ports on your Hisense Roku TV and input source device.

Note: If you notice that the HDMI cable connector is wobbly or corroded, be sure that this is why the connection to your Hisense Roku TV is not working.

3.2 Switch the Sides of your HDMI Cable

If the HDMI cable seems intact, and there are no obstructions within the HDMI ports, just switch the sides of the cable and don’t forget to adjust the input source (solution #1).

3.3 Test via Different HDMI Port and Input

test via different hdmi port and input

So, if the input source device is currently connected to HDMI 1 ARC, try switching to one of the other HDMI ports available on the TV (HDMI 2 or 3).

Then, using the instructions in solution #1, switch to the correct source.

Also, try a different HDMI port on the source device!

Quick Tip: If it doesn’t work at this point, try to restart your HDMI source device!

4. Change Television Resolution

Note: Skip this step if you’re dealing with HDMI issues when connecting an audio input device!

A highly likely cause for missing HDMI input on your Hisense Roku TV is a mismatch in the resolution between the TV and the source device.

change television resolution
  1. First, press the “Home” button on the Roku remote.
  2. Then, navigate over to Settings and Display Type.
  3. Switch to different resolutions to test the HDMI input.

Well, if you have a 4K Hisense Roku TV and are currently using “4K HDR 30fps TV”, the HDMI cable must support 4K; otherwise, it won’t work.

So, go ahead and test “1080p TV” or even go as low as “720p TV”. When the resolution is changed, select the HDMI source you want to view.

If it works, stick with the “1080p TV” (FULL HD).

Note: If you want to get 4K resolution out of your HDMI source, make sure to purchase a 4K HDMI cable for a crystal clear experience.

5. Enable or Disable CEC & ARC

Your Hisense Roku TV provides options such as HDMI-CEC (Consumer Electronics Control) and ARC (Audio Return Channel).

The HDMI CEC allows you to control HDMI-connected devices with one remote, while ARC lets you send TV sound to audio devices with one cable.

enable or disable cec & arc

However, many HDMI source devices, whether audio or video, may not work well without these options, so we recommend tweaking them to test.

How to Adjust the CEC on Roku TV?

  1. Press the “Home” button on the remote.
  2. Go to “Settings” and choose “System”.
  3. Head to “Control other devices (CEC)”.
  4. Checkmark the “System audio control”.
  5. Also, checkmark the “1-touch play” box.

  2. Choose “Control other devices (CEC)”.
  3. Highlight “ARC” and checkmark the box.

You should try a few things and test after each:

  • Disable CEC and disable ARC.
  • Disable CEC and enable ARC.
  • Enable CEC and disable ARC.
  • Enable CEC and enable ARC.

If nothing works, enable both options for now and continue reading!

6. Replace HDMI or Source Device

If you have a replacement HDMI cable at home, whether it’s lying in the drawer or production, now is the time to implement it in your Hisense Roku TV setup.

Well, this will instantly reveal whether the issue comes from the HDMI cable or something else.

Also, you may try connecting a different source device to your Hisense Roku TV to narrow down the problem.
