Stop Your Lorex DVR Beeping with These Easy Steps!
We understand that the Lorex DVR beeping noises could sound frightening, especially if you have never heard them before and don’t know what they are.
Don’t worry–the beeping comes from issues related to the video storage:
To identify and resolve the problem, it is essential to investigate the nature of each possible warning for the beeping.
So, let’s walk you through the complete troubleshooting guide, using the exclusion method!
How to Fix When the Lorex DVR Beeping – Easy Methods!
Note: Have you noticed a specific pattern in your Lorex DVR’s beeping, which may suggest where the issue comes from?
1. Unplug the Lorex DVR From the Power
Whether there is a temporary bug in the system or a failure of the hard drive, a simple power cycle should be the first thing to attempt, since it is easy to conduct and often fixes the issue.
Before we attempt anything more complex, proceed with the steps below to start a power cycle:
While disconnected, check whether the DVR equipment has sustained any damage or if it has displayed errors on the monitor during startup.
If the beeping is still there, it indicates a more serious problem with the Lorex DVR…
2. Temporarily Deactivate System Warnings
The persistent beeping produced by your DVR might be caused by a system warning, such as motion detection or a hard drive error.
The Lorex DVR allows you to configure multiple types of system warnings, each through beeping, hence, we recommend temporarily deactivating them.
Follow these instructions to temporarily disable all system warnings:
- Access the Main Menu by clicking the home icon on the DVR taskbar.
- Now, navigate to Advanced and select Warning to view alert settings.
- Choose the warning type to configure from the Warning Type menu.
- Next, uncheck all of the boxes to disable the DVR system warnings.
- Set the Buzzer drop-down to OFF to verify that the beeping is also off.
- Finally, click Save, then OK to apply the settings and stop the beeping.
Do not reactivate the system warnings until the end of the guide.
However, for the upcoming hour or so, your system will not be alerting you to detected motion or provide other warnings.
3. Inspect the Lorex DVR Error Logs
If you are still wondering how to stop the beeping on Lorex DVR, perhaps the error logs contain the solution.
The “Logs” section in the DVR menu displays underlying errors that might cause your DVR to beep, even if all of the system warnings are disabled.
So, accessing and analyzing these logs helps pinpoint the cause of the beeping and provides a 100% working solution for the problem.
Here’s how to access and view the Lorex DVR logs:
Each error code in the DVR logs contains a full description of the problem, along with a user-friendly solution.
Note: You can create a backup of the DVR logs by using a USB flash drive!
4. Deactivate the Lorex DVR Recording Schedule
Well, even with all system warnings disabled, the DVR could still beep to indicate an underlying recording problem or a missed schedule.
So, to identify if that’s the reason behind the problem, ZontSound advises temporarily setting all recording schedules in your DVR menu to “OFF”.
Follow these simple steps to disable the Lorex DVR schedule:
- Click the Main Menu icon on the DVR taskbar.
- Go to the “Recording” section in the Main Menu.
- Select the camera channel to modify its schedule.
- Disable the schedule or adjust times on the grid.
- Now, save changes by clicking “Apply” or “Save”.
- Repeat the steps for each of your Lorex cameras.
Note: If the cameras are still not recording after reactivating the schedule, check out this guide!
5. Free Up Space on the Lorex DVR HDD
After checking all possible issues that could occur with the footage settings of your recorder, but the Lorex DVR will not stop beeping, it is time to search for the problem in your DVR’s storage.
As you probably know, the LHB Lorex DVR series and older models use 500GB to 1TB drives, which could fill up over time.
As clarified earlier, overfilled storage is often the cause of the beeping, as it indicates that the recorder can no longer store footage.
There are up to 3 different ways to manage or free up space on your Lorex DVR, and we will review each of them!
Method #1: Configure Overwrite Settings:
The “Overwrite” feature configures the DVR to automatically delete old recordings to make space for new ones.
This is considered the best method for freeing up space because it does not require manual inspection of the storage, and you can modify which footage to uninstall.
- Right-click the menu bar and select “Main Menu” on your DVR.
- Head to “Device” and then select “HDD” to access the settings.
- Press the Overwrite mode, and set it to “Auto” or “1-90 Days”.
- Set the clips’ retention period or turn overwriting off as needed.
- Click “Save” to apply the overwrite settings and reduce alerts.
Method #2: Delete Specific Recordings:
If Overwrite does not work for you, you can manually access the DVR storage and delete only the clips that you have already reviewed or saved.
This is recommended for users who prefer to back up their recordings before they are automatically removed.
- Launch the Lorex app on your smartphone or tablet device.
- Now, tap the camera name to access its stored recordings.
- Specify the recording by pressing the date and time entry.
- Tap the delete icon to remove the recording from storage.
- Finally, repeat for all saved clips that you no longer require.
Method #3: Format the HDD:
If you prefer to start clean and don’t need any of the footage on your HDD, then you can format the hard drive.
All of the recordings will be permanently erased, which will make space for new clips and prevent the DVR from beeping.
- Right-click the menu bar and select “Main Menu” on the DVR.
- Navigate to “Device” and then press on “HDD” in the settings.
- Now, press the specific HDD you want to format from the list.
- Click “Format HDD”, and enter the administrator password.
- Wait until the HDD formatting is complete and test the DVR.
Note: The formatting is specifically helpful if the Lorex DVR storage is corrupted.
6. Reinsert the Lorex DVR Hard Drive
If the Lorex DVR is still beeping randomly, then it is time for more serious measures, such as accessing the hardware of the DVR.
If you have already attempted all of the solutions above and nothing seems to work, the issue is almost certainly related to your HDD functionality.
Here’s how to take out the HDD of the Lorex DVR and place it back in:
We recommend reformatting the hard drive from scratch (if you haven’t already), following the instructions in solution #5, method #3, after placing it back in.
Tip: Get in touch with Lorex customer support if you have any questions regarding the HDD uninstallation.
7. Reset the Lorex DVR System to Defaults
A factory reset using the Panic button can fix ongoing issues with the Lorex NVR/DVR, such as storage corruption, which causes the Lorex DVR to beep.
However, all settings and data on your recorder will be permanently erased as a result of the factory reset, so proceed with caution.
Here’s how to factory reset the Lorex DVR in easy steps:
- Connect the Lorex DVR to the power source and verify it is turned on.
- Repeatedly press the Panic button on the panel until the reset starts.
- Wait for the Lorex screen to show on the monitor, signaling competition.
- Reconfigure the recorder settings and check if the beeping is still there.
Well, if you have an old recording, it might get stuck in a rebooting loop right after or before the factory reset.
If this happens, press the Panic button multiple times and take out the HDD again.
