Here is what the yellow light on Echo Pop could indicate:
One way or another, the yellow light signifies a missed message, call, or notification on Alexa!
How to Fix the Persistent Echo Pop Blinking Yellow Light?
If you’re unable to get rid of the blinking yellow light, we’ve come up with a few working ways.
1. Ask Alexa to Read Notifications
The easiest way to instantly remove the blinking yellow light on your Alexa is to check what type of missing notification there is.
So, you only need to ask Alexa to read out loud your notifications by saying one of the following prompts:
- “Alexa, what are my notifications?”
- “Alexa, read all of my notifications.”
- “Alexa, what messages do I have?”
Alexa will then start narrating your notifications and when the prompt is over, the yellow light should stop blinking and disappear.
If you, however, have no notifications or the yellow light is still there, continue reading ahead…
2. Stop the Unwanted Notifications
There are quite a few different Alexa notification types, some of which include, Announcements, Calendar, Amazon Shopping, Communication, and Reminders.
If you want to prevent Alexa from blinking in yellow for some of these categories, you can stop them in the Alexa application.
Here’s how to disable specific notification types in the Alexa app:
- Open the Alexa app on your smartphone.
- Head to “More” and enter the “Settings.”
- Tap “Notifications” to reveal the options.
In this tab, you will see all different Alexa notification types. You can now select any of them and reveal the notification-specific settings.
You can either disable them or set them up according to your preference, which can significantly lower the number of notifications Alexa will show you.
Quick Tip: The most common reason for too many notifications on any Echo speaker is under the “COMMUNICATION” tab–”Notify me when contacts join Alexa”.
3. Enable the Do Not Disturb Mode
If you want a particular Echo device, such as your Echo Pop to never receive notifications, and thus never blink in yellow again, enable the “Do Not Disturb” mode.
This mode will specifically block the selected Echo device from receiving any kind of notifications/alerts/calls and others.
To enable the DND (Do Not Disturb) mode, follow these instructions:
- Open the Alexa app and head to “Devices.”
- Locate and select your Echo Pop speaker.
- Tap Settings, which is the cogwheel button.
- Scroll down and select the “Do Not Disturb.”
- Tap on the toggle next to “Do Not Disturb.”
If you were still seeing the blinking yellow light on your Echo Pop, after enabling the DND mode, the light should instantly disappear.
If, however, you still see the light, this may be a system bug.
4. Update your Echo Pop Firmware
If you’ve read your missed notifications but are still wondering why is Echo Pop blinking yellow, you may need to update the software of your speaker.
The yellow light could be a notification that there is a pending or failed to-pass-through system update, so it’s time to update manually.
- To update your Echo Pop, simply say “Alexa, check for system updates”.
If your Echo Pop starts updating, this is a good sign. Wait until the update is completed and try to read your missed notifications again.
If the yellow light is still there, continue reading further!
Note: A software update on your Echo Pop might take anywhere between 10–30 minutes!
5. Power Cycle your Echo Speaker
Sometimes, when the yellow light is stuck and won’t disappear from the Echo Pop, all you must do is a simple soft reset or a power cycle.
The process is very simple, it doesn’t delete anything, just reboots the operating system of the Echo Pop and resets services that may cause issues.
5.1 How to Soft-Reset Echo Pop?
- Open your Alexa app, and go to “Devices.”
- Tap your Echo Pop and head to “Settings.”
- Scroll down and press on “Restart Device.”
5.2 How to Power Cycle Echo Pop?
- Unplug your Echo from the power socket.
- Wait for 60 seconds for a full power cycle.
- Connect your Echo Pop to the wall outlet.
Tip: Connect the power adapter of your Echo Pop directly into the outlet, without any extenders!
6. Unpair & Pair Echo Pop to Alexa
If you have told your Echo Pop’s Alexa to read your notifications, but the yellow blinking light is still there, the problem could be in the app’s connection.
If your Echo Pop has lost connection to the Alexa app, the device may not get a prompt response that the notifications have been read.
In such cases, even if your Alexa narrated your missed notifications, the yellow light may remain blinking until the device is successfully reconnected to the app.
A quick way to fix this problem is to unpair and pair Echo Pop with Alexa:
- Open the Alexa app and head to “Devices.”
- Tap your “Echo Pop” and go to “Settings.”
- Scroll all the way down to “Registered to.”
- Tap “Deregister” to unpair it from the app.
- Power cycle the Echo Pop for 60 seconds.
- Wait until you see the flashing orange light.
- In the Alexa app, head to “Add Device” (+).
- Press Amazon Echo, and follow the steps.
When your Echo Pop is successfully paired with the Alexa app, the yellow light should no longer be there, and you can consider the problem solved.
If not, there is one more thing you can try!
7. Reset your Echo Pop to Default
The final and most drastic measure against the blinking yellow light on Echo Pop is to perform the well-known factory reset.
This method will unpair your Echo Pop from the Alexa app and erase all custom settings/configurations, and later you’ll need to pair the speaker to the Wi-Fi.
This is a last resort solution, and we only recommend it if you’ve tried everything but the yellow light on your Echo Pop is still blinking to no avail.
Here’s how to factory reset Echo Pop in easy steps:
- First, verify that your Echo Pop is currently working.
- Locate the Microphone and Volume Down buttons.
- Press both buttons simultaneously for ~25 seconds.
This will trigger a factory reset and your Echo Pop’s operating system will be reverted to default.
Note: You can proceed with the setup when you see the orange pulsating light on your speaker.
