This guide will help you diagnose the exact causes of the problem and provide expert-vetted solutions, simplified in short steps!
HomePod Mini Not Turning On – 7 Tested Solutions
Tip: Ensure the HomePod’s power adapter is securely connected on both ends!
1. Discharge the HomePod’s A/C Supply

The first step to addressing the power supply fault of the HomePod mini is performing a full discharge of the hardware that involves temporarily suspending the unit’s power supply.
All you have to do is disconnect the power adapter of the HomePod mini from both ends until the power has fully drained and relaunch the system of the speaker.
Here’s how to perform a discharge on the HomePod mini:
- Unplug the power cable from the back of the HomePod.
- Now, disconnect the other end from the electrical outlet.
- Wait for 60 seconds until the HomePod’s power drains.
- Reconnect the power cable and wait for the unit to reboot.
It may take several seconds for the HomePod to load after the power cycle, but once it does (if it does), test all of the speaker’s functions.
2. Plug the HomePod to a Different Outlet

If the HomePod mini not turning on when plugged in a specific outlet, you should test the device on an alternative power source.
Perhaps, an outlet insufficiency is preventing your HomePod from functioning properly or has resulted in a total failure of the startup.
So, identify another functional outlet that’s available in your household and install the HomePod there.
- You don’t have to make any adjustments to the profile of the device as upon connecting it, all settings will be re-calibrated automatically.
Note: If the HomePod powers off at random or gets stuck in a reboot loop, there’s almost certainly an outlet issue.
3. Activate an OS Update on the HomePod

There’s a persistent chance that the HomePod is refusing to start due to a pending update of the operating system.
Similar to your iPhone or iPad, the HomePod must also be up-to-date in order to function as intended and not experience any disruptions.
Follow these steps to update the OS of the HomePod mini:
- Launch the “Home” app on your iPhone or iPad.
- Tap the three-dot menu in the upper-right corner.
- Press “Home Settings” in the middle of the menu.
- Tap “Software Update” once in the app’s settings.
- Check if there’s a pending version for the device.
If a newer OS is available, you will be able to press the “Update” button and proceed with the instructions.
Additionally, set the “AUTOMATIC UPDATES” tile to “On” for the HomePod mini to receive periodic updates automatically.
Tip: Ensure your iPhone is also at the most current version at “Settings” → “General” → “Software Update.”
4. Re-add the HomePod’s Accessory Profile

Well, removing the device profile of the HomePod mini could address issues with the speaker’s startup and state of functionality.
All you need is access to the “Home” application through your iOS-powered iPhone or iPad and a registered profile of the HomePod mini.
Follow these steps to re-add the profile of the HomePod mini:
- Open the “Home” app on your iPhone or iPad device.
- Navigate to the “Rooms” tab and find the HomePod.
- Hold the HomePod’s tile until the device options show.
- Now, select the “Details” button and scroll downwards.
- Press the “Remove Accessory” button at the bottom.
After the device is successfully removed, you can initiate an automatic setup just by standing within 5–10 feet from the HomePod with your iPhone or iPad in hand.
Quick Tip: Alternatively, you can also set up the HomePod manually by pressing “Add Device” in the “Home” app.
5. Check if the HomePod is Overheating

Perhaps, the HomePod has powered off due to an overheating of the hardware and increasingly elevated internal temperatures.
There are several ways to tell if your HomePod’s temperature is off the limits, typically by the emitted heat around the device or by placing your hand on the top.
Also, the performance will be extremely degraded while the HomePod is overheating and some of the functionalities may not be accessible.
Here are clever tips to prevent the HomePod from overheating:
- Ensure the HomePod mini is in a well-ventilated area.
- Check for accumulation of dust or debris on the device.
- Remove nearby heat conductors that warm up the unit.
- Temporarily pause all of the HomePod’s software tasks.
Keep in mind that if the HomePod mini overheats for an extended amount of time, it could lead to irreversible damage to the hardware and permanent performance issues.
Note: You will know that the temperatures have improved once the HomePod starts operating at normal speeds.
6. Reset the HomePod to OS Defaults

In case all else fails and the HomePod mini not turning on, it’s time for a factory reset.
All of your HomePod’s settings will be restored to default values, which could potentially address the repeatedly failing startup.
- To factory reset the HomePod through the “Home” app, go to “Settings” → “Settings” button (cogwheel) → “Reset HomePod” and follow the instructions.
You could also reset the HomePod through your PC or Mac by connecting it physically over the supplied USB-C adapter and installing the iTunes app for PC or via the Finder on Mac.
7. Replace the HomePod’s Equipment
If the supplied USB type-C adapter of the HomePod is no longer working, it must be replaced.
Like many other speakers and virtual assistants, the HomePod mini also requires a consistent power supply through an adapter, but in this case, all it uses is a USB type-C cable paired with a standard 12-24V adapter.

We recommend replacing the charging cord of the HomePod mini and testing the startup and other functions with the new cable.
If not, you should also install an alternative power adapter to check if the electrical supply will be restored.
Tip: You can purchase an original power supply for your HomePod either through a physical Apple Store or Amazon.
