Why is Reolink Doorbell Not Charging? (Simple Fixes!)

If you have noticed the Reolink doorbell not charging issue despite being plugged in, it can be frustrating when you rely on it for home security.
The issue is often caused by an insufficient electrical supply, defective equipment, or even a battery problem.
So this guide offers practical steps to troubleshoot and resolve your problem, ensuring your doorbell stays powered and ready.
Let’s get started!
How to Fix When Reolink Doorbell Not Charging – 8 Methods!
Note: Are you using the original USB Type-C cable supplied with the Reolink doorbell?
1. Check the Battery Charging Connections
The Reolink Battery Doorbell has a 7000mAh battery, which could last for days and weeks before it is fully depleted.
It also has a USB Type-C port intended for charging at maximum effectiveness, considering that you are only using the original equipment and installation.
The first thing to check is whether you have set up the doorbell battery charging equipment appropriately and if all of the connections are secure.
The Reolink doorbell charging setup consists of three connections:
- The connection between the USB Type-C cable and the adapter.
- The connection between the 5V/2A adapter and the outlet.
- The connection between the USB Type-C cable and the battery.
Note: If all of these connections are firmly connected and secured, the 7000mAh battery of the doorbell should charge in under ~5 hours from 5% to 100%.
2. Stabilize the Battery Climate Conditions
The Reolink Battery Doorbell is designed to stop charging below 32°F 0°C (0°C) since cold weather can interfere with the inductors of the battery.
If the doorbell was outside until now in negative temperatures, then you must wait for at least 30–60 minutes after bringing it inside.
To start charging again, the doorbell hardware must reach approximately 68°F (20°C), and only then will it respond to the USB Type-C cable.
Tip: You can speed up the battery warming process by using a hair dryer or simply keeping the battery next to a heat conductor.
3. Charge Through an Alternative Source
The Reolink doorbell might refuse to charge due to a power source problem, so let’s try a different one.
All you have to do is relocate the power adapter along with the provided USB Type-C cable and determine if the doorbell battery charges in an alternative power outlet.
Tip: Charge Through a Computer!
A computer’s USB port can provide steady power to charge the doorbell, although it may take much longer in comparison to an outlet.
Connect the USB Type-C cable to a computer USB port, and then connect the doorbell battery.
After connecting, allow it to charge for 1–2 hours, then check if the battery level on the Reolink application is increasing.
This allows you to confirm if your original power source was the issue stopping the charge.
Note: Also, try a different power source, but connect the adapter directly, without third-party devices such as plugs, extenders, or dividers.
4. Test with Different Equipment
Well, defective equipment is among the leading causes why the Reolink battery doorbell is not charging.
So, the next step is to replace the provided USB Type-C cable and test with another compatible power adapter separately to determine which of the components is the culprit.
Step #1 Replace the USB-C Cable
A damaged USB-C cable might be why your doorbell isn’t charging, even if it looks fine on the outside.
Acquire a new USB-C cable, connect it to the existing 5V/2A adapter, and install the battery of the doorbell.
Allow it to charge for approximately ~15–20 minutes while repeatedly checking the battery level through the Reolink application.
Step #2 Replace the 5V/2A Adapter
Next, install a replacement adapter using the old USB Type-C cable of your doorbell and check if the battery level within the application increases.
Tip: If there is no improvement, install the replacement adapter and USB cable simultaneously and measure the battery level.
5. Check & Clean the Battery Charging Pins
Your Reolink Battery Doorbell might not charge if the battery pins are rusty, bent, or covered in debris, which blocks the connection with the charger.
You can use common materials to clean the charging pins, although you will have to be extremely careful not to damage them further.
Here’s how to inspect and clean the pins of the Reolink doorbell:
- Remove the battery from your doorbell plate.
- Check the pins for damage, dust, or debris.
- Attach a small cotton swab to the toothpick.
- Apply a little rubbing alcohol to the cotton.
- Insert the toothpick into the port and clean.
Warning: Wait until the pins dry up completely before attempting to charge the battery!
6. Re-add the Reolink Doorbell From the App
A glitch with the Reolink mobile application might lead to accelerated battery consumption and issues with charging if there is a scheduling problem.
An abundance of the Reolink doorbell software processes are defined by the Reolink app, so any issues with the platform will have a direct impact on the physical functionality.
Step #1: How to Remove Reolink:
- Open the Reolink app and tap the gear icon.
- Scroll down and locate the Reolink doorbell.
- Tap the “Delete” option to remove the device.
- Confirm the removal and then close the app.
Step #2: How to Re-add Reolink:
- Tap the plus button on the app homepage.
- Scan the QR code on the doorbell device.
- Follow the instructions to re-add the Reolink.
Note: You will be prompted to undergo the doorbell’s initial setup after re-adding.
7. Wire the Doorbell for Consistent Charging
One of the perks of having a Reolink Battery Doorbell and not a PoE unit is that you can always connect it to the existing doorbell installation.
Well, this means that you can charge the battery through a transformer.
The battery capacity, longevity, and charging rate won’t be affected after wiring the doorbell, and you won’t have to remove the battery and charge it manually all the time.
The wired setup of the doorbell consists of three simple steps!
Step #1: Turn off the Circuit Breaker
Find the breaker box switch that controls the power supply to the existing doorbell installation and slowly push the lever to “Off”.
Then, wait for several seconds until the residual electricity discharges, and test the exposed wires using a multimeter.
Step #2: Wire the Doorbell Terminals
Now, remove the faceplate of the doorbell and uninstall the screws holding the mounting plate (4 screws in total).
Gently remove the doorbell and identify the power terminals right above the USB-C charging port.
Pull out the chime and “C” wires from the wall and tie them around terminals on the back of the doorbell.
Check if the connections are secure and isolate the wires using electrical duct tape.
Step #3: Mount the Doorbell & Restore Power
After connecting the wires, it’s time to secure the doorbell and test the setup.
Place the Reolink Doorbell on the mounting bracket, turn the circuit breaker back on, and check if the doorbell powers up and the battery icon shows it’s charging.
Note: The doorbell will charge significantly slower with a standard 16–24V AC transformer if the output current is 500mA or, ideally, 800mA–1A.
8. Reset the Doorbell to Default Settings
Perhaps the Reolink doorbell not charging problem is a result of a fatal system problem with the doorbell.
If that’s the case, we can recommend a more drastic solution, such as a factory reset to eliminate potential errors with the Reolink doorbell and ensure stable functionality.
Here’s how to factory reset the Reolink doorbell:
- Turn off Reolink by holding the Power button for 5 seconds.
- Turn on Reolink by holding the Power button for 5 seconds.
- Press the button 3 more times after the ring turns solid white.
- Now, after the indicator changes, press the button repeatedly.
- Wait until the Reolink doorbell announces the factory reset.
Remember that all settings and configurations of the Reolink doorbell will be erased, including the profile in the application.
So, after the reset is successful, follow the steps in solution #6 to re-add the doorbell cleanly and reconfigure all of the settings.
Note: If the issue persists, contact Reolink customer support since the problem might be with the battery, hence you may need a replacement.
