reolink doorbell chime not working

We know how frustrating it can be when your Reolink doorbell chime not working, leaving you unaware of potential visitors and exposing your security.

Don’t worry–any issues like power disruptions, wiring errors, or an incompatible chime are often the culprits behind this problem, and in this guide, we’ll learn how to tackle each of them!

Let’s get started!

Reolink Doorbell Chime Not Working – Quick Ways to Fix!

Note: The Reolink doorbell can either use the Reolink plug-in chime or connect with the existing mechanical or digital chime of your installation.

1. Check the Chime Power Compatibility (Plug-in Chime)

power compatibility check chime

The Reolink Video Doorbell Wi-Fi needs 12–24VAC or DC 24V, while the PoE model supports the same AC/DC range or IEEE 802.3af PoE at 48V.

You should also avoid potential third-party equipment, as it may not deliver the correct voltage or current, which could cause malfunctions.

There is a label (sticker) on the bottom of the Reolink Chime that contains information about the power requirements and the supported values.

Use the table from above for comparison and check the exact voltage requirement values on your doorbell.

2. Power Cycle the Reolink Chime (Plug-in Chime)

A power cycle can address underlying issues if the Reolink doorbell keeps failing to activate the chime when someone presses the button.

This process ensures the chime receives a consistent power supply to function properly with the doorbell and always responds to inputs.

power cycle the reolink chime (plug-in chime)

Follow these steps to power cycle the Reolink Chime:

  • Locate the Reolink Chime unit in your hallway or entrance hall.
  • Disconnect the chime from its power source for ~30 seconds.
  • Reconnect the Reolink Chime back into the A/C outlet securely.
  • Now, wait until the chime is fully powered on for about 1 minute.
  • Next, check if pressing the doorbell activates the Reolink Chime.

After power cycling, your Reolink Doorbell should trigger the chime correctly.

To prevent future issues, ensure the chime’s outlet provides stable power.

3. Use a Different Outlet for the Chime (Plug-in Chime)

An outlet issue could prevent the doorbell from activating the chime when someone is at your front door.

Here at ZontSound, we always test with an alternative and proven to work electrical outlet with proven functionality, before troubleshooting further.

use a different outlet for the chime
  • Disconnect the Reolink plug-in-chime and find an alternative outlet in your home that’s functional, then test with the doorbell.

Alert: Avoid using any third-party equipment to connect the Reolink Chime.

4. Deregister the Doorbell & Chime (Plug-in Chime)

Whenever the Reolink Chime is not working with the doorbell, registration error is among the first things to suspect.

So, deregistering both the chime and doorbell and re-adding them can clear these errors and restore functionality.

Step #1: Remove the Chime from the Reolink App:

remove the chime from the reolink app
  • Open the Reolink app and go to the device list.
  • Tap the chime and tap the gear icon for settings.
  • Tap Delete to deregister the chime from the app.

Step #2: Remove the Doorbell from the Reolink App:

  • In the Reolink App, navigate to the devices page.
  • Choose the Video Doorbell and tap the gear icon.
  • Tap Delete to unregister the doorbell from the app.

Use the “+Add Device button to re-register the doorbell and then re-add the device profile of the chime.

Keep in mind that all custom user settings of the doorbell and chime will be erased

5. Restore the Reolink Chime to Defaults (Plug-In Chime)

A factory reset is among the most potent solutions for any issues with your Reolink chime and the communication with the doorbell.

The procedure lasts for less than ~15 seconds and resets all settings of the digital chime, which may just be enough to resolve the problem permanently.

Here’s how to factory reset the Reolink Chime:

  • Press and hold the Volume button on the Reolink Chime.
  • While holding, reconnect the chime to an A/C power socket.
  • Wait for the 10 slow beeps, then 4 faster beeps to confirm.
  • Release the Volume button once all of the beeps are heard.

Warning: Verify the Reolink chime is powered throughout the entire factory reset procedure!

6. Check if the Chime is Compatible (Existing Chime)

An incompatible chime might be the main issue, as the Reolink Video Doorbell only supports specific mechanical and electronic chimes.

Comparing your Chime model with the supported Reolink doorbell chimes is the only way of knowing whether your installation is fully compliant.

7. Inspect the Reolink Terminal Wiring (Existing Chime)

The chime problem could occur due to a doorbell installation problem, rather than an issue with the chime.

At ZontSound, we recommend inspecting and securing the terminal wiring to ensure a proper circuit connection with the chime via the “TRANS,” and “FRONT,” or “REAR” terminals.

inspect the reolink terminal wiring

Here’s how to access and inspect the Reolink doorbell wires:

  • Deactivate the circuit breaker for safety before proceeding.
  • Carefully detach the Reolink Video Doorbell from its bracket.
  • Locate the terminal screws on the doorbell mounting plate.
  • After that, inspect the existing wires for any type of damage.
  • Now, tighten the screws to securely fasten the wires in place.
  • Reattach the doorbell unit, restore power, and test the chime.

After securing the connections, press the doorbell to confirm that the chime rings.

If you notice any loose or damaged wires, we suggest contacting a qualified technician for more assistance.

8. Inspect & Test the Installation Transformer (Existing Chime)

The Reolink Video Doorbell requires a 16–24V AC transformer to ensure the chime operates correctly.

The thing is, battery-powered or integrated chime systems often provide inadequate or incompatible voltage, which can cause the chime to fail.

We advise confirming the transformer voltage values to ensure compatibility with your Reolink doorbell setup.

inspect & test the installation transformer

Follow these steps to locate and inspect the transformer:

  • Find the transformer, located near your chime or electrical panel.
  • Measure the transformer’s AC voltage output using a multimeter.
  • After that, confirm the reading falls within the 16–24V AC range.

If your setup lacks a transformer, the existing chime will not function at all.

We recommend avoiding modifications to integrated systems without professional help.

9. Factory Reset the Doorbell (Existing Chime & Plug-In Chime)

If the Reolink doorbell chime is not working after attempting all solutions so far, it’s time for a factory reset.

This procedure will erase ALL settings of your Wi-Fi, PoE, or wired Reolink doorbell and potentially resolve issues with the chime.

9.1 How to Factory Reset Reolink Video Doorbell Wi-Fi/PoE:

factory reset reolink video doorbell wi-fi/poe
  • Find the Reset button on the back of the Reolink Doorbell.
  • Press and hold the button using a paperclip or fingernail.
  • Now, release after hearing a short sound or voice prompt.

9.2 How to Factory Reset Reolink Video Doorbell (Battery):

  • Confirm the doorbell is powered on before proceeding.
  • Now, press the combined Power/Reset button 3 times.
  • Wait for the doorbell unit to reset to its factory settings.

We advise against resetting the NVR to defaults, as it erases all device profiles, recordings, and schedules.

After resetting, reconfigure your doorbell to restore chime functionality.
