Why Does Reolink Doorbell Keeps Disconnecting? (Fix It Fast!)

If you’re dealing with frequent Wi-Fi connectivity issues, you may have noticed that the Reolink doorbell keeps disconnecting, which could represent a threat to your home security.
This only occurs with the Blink Wi-Fi or battery-powered doorbell, as it does not rely on a PoE connection.
By the end of this guide, you will discover a variety of possible solutions for the Reolink doorbell Wi-Fi outages, as well as the potential causes!
How to Fix When the Reolink Doorbell Keeps Disconnecting?
Note: You will know the doorbell has disconnected if the camera LED changes from blue to red.
1. Reconnect the Reolink Doorbell
The Reolink doorbell Wi-Fi loss can happen due to an underlying network issue or be a one-time occurrence.
Hence, to determine whether there’s a real problem behind the sudden disconnect of the doorbell, we suggest reconnection.
Follow these steps to reconnect the Reolink Wi-Fi doorbell:
- Open the Reolink app and tap “Add Device” at the top.
- Use the release tool to remove the doorbell faceplate.
- Scan the QR code on the back of the Reolink doorbell.
- Tap “Choose Wi-Fi Connection” from the instructions.
- Select a Wi-Fi option that is under your router’s network.
- Now, enter the password and follow the on-screen steps.
Do not close the Reolink mobile application for at least 60 seconds to determine if the Reolink doorbell will remain connected.
Also, check if the “Network” or “Status” lamp on your router is another color other than green.
Note: A yellow or red indication on the router often indicates an ISP problem!
2. Reboot the Network Router
Your Reolink doorbell might be losing Wi-Fi due to a temporary fault in the Wi-Fi network router, which could often be resolved with a simple soft reset.
Rebooting the router effectively involves suspending the electrical supply for ~30–40 seconds.
So, unplug the router power adapter and wait for about ~20 seconds before reconnecting.
Wait until all status lights on the router turn solid green, and then check the Reolink application to see if your Reolink doorbell is online.
Note: It may take between 1 and 2 minutes for the doorbell to reconnect.
3. Shorten the Physical Wi-Fi Distance
The Reolink doorbell could encounter Wi-Fi disruptions when it is too far away from the network router.
The Reolink doorbell supports both 2.4 GHz and 5 GHz Wi-Fi, so we advise checking the optimal distance for your network and making any necessary adjustments in the Wi-Fi proximity.
2.4 GHz Wi-Fi:
The 2.4 GHz Wi-Fi signal covers much more distance, but the speed is considerably weaker if compared to the 5 GHz Wi-Fi.
The average distance a 2.4 GHz Wi-Fi network should cover is between 100 and 150 feet, but we recommend keeping the Wi-Fi router and doorbell within a 100-foot radius just to be secure.
5 GHz Wi-Fi:
If you’re on 5 GHz, it’s faster but doesn’t go as far.
You’re limited to about a 70–80 feet radius, and outside of it, the Reolink doorbell will lose coverage every few minutes.
In such a case, we recommend considering a Wi-Fi extender to lengthen the 5 GHz Wi-Fi range.
4. Switch Reolink to a Different Wi-Fi
Note: Only proceed with the steps below if you have a dual-band network router or a hotspot.
Well, a problem with either of the Wi-Fi threads could be the reason why your Reolink doorbell disconnected.
We recommend switching the doorbell from the 2.4 GHz Wi-Fi to the 5 GHz one or vice versa to check whether this will have any effect.
Here’s how to switch the Reolink Wi-Fi within the application:
- Open the Reolink app and tap the “Settings” section.
- Tap “Network”, then pick a new Wi-Fi network to use.
- Tap “Connect” after inserting the new Wi-FI password.
- Wait for several seconds and test the Reolink doorbell.
Note: The bottom line is that if you have a dual-band router, just go with the 2.4 GHz Wi-Fi, as you don’t need speed for a doorbell–you need reliability.
5. Update & Reinstall the Reolink App
There could be a problem with the Reolink application that is causing your Reolink doorbell to disconnect or perform poorly in terms of processing speed.
We recommend updating the app first, and if that does not resolve the problem, proceed with a complete and clear reinstallation.
Step #1: Update the Reolink App
An old version of the app can interfere with the connection of the Reolink doorbell and lead to Wi-Fi dropouts.
Access your phone app store, Google Play for Android or the App Store for iPhone, and search for the Reolink app in the applications section.
Tip: Search for an “Update” button, but verify that your smartphone is connected to the internet.
Step #2: Reinstall the Reolink App
In case updating does not resolve the problem, we recommend proceeding with a reinstallation.
So, delete the Reolink app from your phone, restart your phone to clear the temporary memory, and then download it again from the app store.
Sign in to your account and re-add the doorbell.
6. Assign Reolink with a Static IP
The Reolink doorbell could be losing its Wi-Fi connection due to an IP address conflict.
You can use the DHCP list within the router settings to assign Reolink a static IP address and ensure the doorbell does not interfere with other devices in the network.
Step #1: Access the Router GUI
You should be able to access your router’s settings through this link, but if it doesn’t work, check the default gateway address on the router’s sticker.
Once at the login page, use “admin/admin” or “admin/password” to sign in to the interface tab.
Step #2: Reserve DHCP Address
Once you’re in the settings, go to “Network” → “DHCP List” or “DHCP” to view all assigned IP addresses.
Search for “Reolink” or “Doorbell” on the “DHCP Clients List” to identify which of the MAC addresses belong to your doorbell.
Once you’ve found your Reolink doorbell in the list, copy the “MAC Address” field along with the “Assigned IP” value.
Finally, select the “Assign New Address” or the “Change DHCP”.
Step #3: Assign a New Reolink IP Address
You will now be required to assign a new IP address for the Reolink doorbell that’s not in use by another device on the network.
For example, it could start with “192.168.1” (as per the DHCP list’s values), and then a unique identifier for the Reolink doorbell that must follow exactly what’s related to the MAC address.
Notice: The Reolink doorbell will temporarily disconnect after assigning the new IP address!
7. Tweak the Router GUI Settings
The Reolink doorbell might be losing Wi-Fi due to improperly configured GUI settings of the router.
Essential options such as band-steering, DHCP whitelist, and Wi-Fi channel could have a great impact on the connection quality of the Reolink doorbell.
Note: Use the instructions from solution #6 to access the web GUI of your router.
Disable Band-Steering
Band-steering can cause the Reolink doorbell to switch repeatedly between the 2.4 GHz and 5 GHz bands, depending on signal strength and connection quality.
Access the router GUI and head to the “Wireless Settings” section.
Now, find a feature called “Smart Connect” or “Band-Steering” and set it to “Off” before saving and restarting the router.
Whitelist the Doorbell IP
Sometimes, the router firewall or IP conflicts might prevent Reolink from connecting and cause the Wi-Fi to drop.
So, access the router LAN or Firewall settings and search for a “Trusted Devices” or “IP Whitelisting” page.
Add the doorbell IP from the DHCP list, click “Save”, and test if the Reolink doorbell connects.
Switch the Wi-Fi Channel
Your Wi-Fi might be on a channel that’s too busy, causing interference for the Reolink doorbell and making it disconnect.
So, access the Wi-Fi router “Wireless Settings” and locate the “Wi-Fi Channel” tab from the side menu.
Switch the 2.4 GHz Wi-Fi thread to another channel option:
- Wi-Fi channel 1
- Wi-Fi channel 6
- Wi-Fi channel 11
Save the changes and reconnect the doorbell to the 2.4 GHz network, following solution #4.
Note: Reboot the Wi-Fi router after configuring all of the GUI settings!
8. Reset the Doorbell to Defaults
Well, if the Reolink doorbell keeps disconnecting after trying all solutions so far, it is best to proceed with a clean factory reset.
All Reolink doorbell models have a built-in “RESET” button that erases the system to its default settings.
Once you have found the button on the underside of the faceplate or mounting plate, you can confidently reset the doorbell to default settings.
How to Factory Reset a Wi-Fi/PoE Doorbell?
First, locate the Reset button on the Reolink doorbell, which should be a small pinhole on the upper side of the rear panel.
Use a paper clip or anything thin and sharp that will fit through the pinhole, and press the button for approximately ~10–15 seconds to initiate the factory reset.
How to Reset a Battery-Powered Doorbell?
Unlike other models, battery-powered Reolinks have a regular reset button that can be pressed without an instrument.
While the doorbell is on, press the button three times in a row to initiate the reset.
The doorbell indicator should change, and the factory reset procedure will now begin.
