When you see the Ring Chime Pro flashing blue light during setup or general activity, it is often a sign of a bad Wi-Fi connection or a setup failure.

The problem could be with your mobile device, the Wi-Fi network, the network router, or even the power source, so stay with us to diagnose the problem.

Let’s jump straight to the solutions!

How to Fix Ring Chime Pro Flashing Blue Light?

Note: Have you disabled the mobile data on your smartphone before connecting with Chime?

1. Soft Reset the Ring Chime Pro

As established, the flashing blue light is an indication of an underlying Wi-Fi problem with your Ring Chime Pro.

For this first solution, we recommend a soft reset, which drains the power out of your Chime and eliminates any temporary issues with the functionality.

  • Disconnect the Ring Chime Pro from the outlet and wait for at least 30–40 seconds

Now, plug the chime back in and check if the flashing blue light is still there.

Allow the device to “resynchronize” with the network for a couple of minutes before moving on to the next solution.

2. Switch the Chime to Another Wi-Fi

To isolate potential issues with the Wi-Fi network distribution and band-steering, we recommend connecting the Ring Chime Pro to the remaining Wi-Fi network.

A function in the Ring mobile app allows you to change the Chime’s Wi-Fi on demand as long as the device is powered on.

Here’s how to change the Wi-Fi of the Ring Chime Pro:

  • Open the Ring app and go to the main dashboard.
  • Tap the three dots on the Ring Chime Pro above.
  • Go to “Device Settings” and press “Device Health”.
  • Go to “Change Network” → “Change Wi-Fi Network”.
  • Choose “Connect to Chime Pro” and follow the steps.
  • Select a new Wi-Fi network from the list and connect.

The 2.4 GHz Wi-Fi signal tends to travel further and pass through obstructions more easily, but carries fewer packets per second, thus, the speed.

Note: Keep the chime within a 100-foot radius of the Wi-Fi router to avoid connection drops.

3. Delete & Re-add the Ring Chime Pro

Deleting and re-adding the chime from the application could resolve potential issues with the setup that have caused the flashing blue indicator light.

Hence, the device profile of the Ring Chime will be temporarily removed, and you must complete the initialization setup from scratch.

How to Delete the Ring Chime Pro From the App:

  • Go to the main dashboard within the Ring app.
  • Tap the dots on the chime to open the settings.
  • Go to “Device Settings” within the Chime options.
  • Head to  “General Settings” → “Remove Device”.
  • Confirm the removal without deleting the events.

How to Re-add the Ring Chime Pro to the App:

re-add ring chime pro to the app
  • Open the Ring app and tap “Set Up a Device”.
  • Select “Chimes” from the list of device types.
  • Scan the QR code on the Chime Pro device.
  • Specify your location and address in the app.
  • Reconnect the Chime Pro from the A/C outlet.
  • Press the side button for 5 seconds for setup.
  • Now, open the Wi-Fi settings on your phone.
  • Identify the “Ring Chime” Wi-Fi in the listings.
  • Use the passkey in the app to pair the Chime.
  • Now, select your home Wi-Fi from the listings.
  • Pair the Chime with your home Wi-Fi to finalize.

If the setup was successful, there will be a confirmation message within the app, and you can continue using the Ring Chime Pro without the flashing blue light.

4. Identify Issues with the Wi-Fi Network

One of the reasons why the Ring Chime Pro blue light flashing could be an underlying problem with the network.

Whether it is an issue with the router, the network, or the service, we’ve prepared several helpful tips to help you identify the network speed and improve it.

How to Check the Ring Chime Signal Strength:

check the ring chime signal strength

In the Ring app, head to the Ring Chime Pro settings, then “Device Health”, and search for the Wi-Fi strength indicator in the menu.

Check if the connection quality is below average and wait a few seconds for more accurate readings.

Tip #1: Hard Reset the Router

Unplug your router, wait for approximately 30 seconds, and then plug it back in.

Wait until all lamps on the router illuminate, then check if the blinking on the chime is still there.

Tip #2: Reduce the Interference

Wireless devices such as Bluetooth transmitters, cordless phones, and even microwave ovens can interfere with the Wi-Fi of your router and Ring Chime Pro.

We recommend moving the Chime Pro away from other wireless devices and turning off nearby electronics to improve the connection as much as possible.

Tip #3: Improve the Network Speed

We recommend several methods to improve the overall speed of the network:

  • Prevent streaming on devices like TVs or laptops.
  • Disconnect unused devices from the Wi-Fi network.
  • Limit downloading, uploading, seeding, and updating.

Tip: Check the speed of the network after each tip to measure the improvement.

5. Check the Settings of your Phone

Since your smartphone acts as the meeting point for the Ring Chime Pro and your Wi-Fi router, particular system settings might have affected the connection unintentionally.

Services such as cellular data, low power mode, and even a VPN could prevent your Chime from connecting.

check the settings of your phone

Check the following settings on your mobile device:

  • Mobile Data: Disable mobile data on your smartphone in the settings.
  • Battery Saver Mode: Ensure your smartphone is not in “Battery Saver”.
  • VPN Apps: Uninstall all third-party VPN apps and disable the built-in one.
  • Private MAC Address: Ensure the device’s MAC address is not private in the settings, only for iOS 14+ or Android 10+.
  • Ring App Permissions: Grant the Ring app all local and online permissions.

You can use the built-in finder in the settings of your smartphone to find these more easily, or check through an online browser for accurate information.

Note: We also recommend attempting the setup through an alternative smartphone to check if the blue light will persist.

6. Split the Wi-Fi Network Bands (2.4 GHz & 5 GHz)

Note: Only proceed with this step if you have a dual-band router!

If your Ring Chime Pro keeps flashing blue, we recommend “separating” the Wi-Fi network into a 2.4 GHz and 5 GHz Wi-Fi.

By default, all dual-band routers work initially on both bands, but if a certain setting is enabled, the frequencies may be combined into one, often causing problems.

split the wi-fi network bands

Testing the chime on both 2.4 GHz and 5 GHz Wi-Fi can help you narrow down the potential probabilities for the blue flashing light by measuring the performance on both.

Here’s how to access your router and split the bands:

Step #1: Find the Default Gateway

First, you must find the default gateway value of the router’s network.

All you need is a Wi-Fi or Ethernet-connected Windows PC/Mac and access to the Command Prompt or Terminal.

  • On your Windows computer, open the CMD, type “ipconfig,” and copy the “Default Gateway” value under the line.
  • On your macOS, open the Terminal, type “route -n get default”, then copy the “gateway” address shown in the list.

Step #2: Sign in to the Router GUI

Now, copy the gateway address to your browser search field, press “Enter” or “Search,” and wait for several seconds until you are at the router sign-in page.

  • Use “admin/admin” or “admin/password” as credentials for signing in!

Step #3: Split the Bands and Test

Now, search for a “Band-Steering” or “Smart Connect” feature in the router settings and make sure it is set to “Off”.

The feature is typically found under the “Wireless” or “Advanced” section.

Finally, follow the steps in solution #2 to change the Wi-Fi of the Ring Chime Pro through the application and test for the blue flashing on both networks.

Note: Ensure your router supports band-steering before attempting to disable it.

7. Factory Reset the Ring Chime Pro

If the Ring Chime Pro flashing blue light does not stop after attempting all of the solutions so far, it is time for something more drastic, such as a factory reset.

This procedure erases all settings of your Chime, removes it from the app, and allows you to start the setup from scratch without any preconfigured options.

Here’s how to factory reset the Ring Chime Pro in easy steps:

  • Find the Reset button on the side of the Chime.
  • Press and hold the reset button for 15 seconds.
  • Release the button when the LED starts flashing.
  • Wait for the Chime Pro to restart, then reconfigure.

Follow the steps in solution #3 to remove the Ring Chime Pro profile from the app and create a new one.
