If your Ring Doorbell Pro not connecting to WiFi, it can feel like your smart home’s front line has given up.

Don’t worry; this is a common problem, and it’s usually fixable with a few simple steps, but it may also require more complicated troubleshooting steps based on the severity.

This guide will walk you through everything you should do. Let’s start with the most important!

How To Connect Ring Doorbell Pro to Wi-Fi:

If your Ring Doorbell Pro can’t connect to the Wi-Fi, the most important thing to begin with is to check whether you’re doing the setup steps correctly.

Here’s how to connect Ring Doorbell Pro to Wi-Fi correctly:

  1. Acquire the app – The first thing to do is download the Ring app from the Google Store or App Store on your phone.
  2. Initiate the setup – Enter the app, tap “Set Up a Device” at the bottom menu, and then make sure to select “Doorbells”.
  3. Scan the QR code – Find the QR code on the back of your Pro or under its faceplate, then tap “I’m Ready to Scan” in the app.
  4. Open the camera – Point your phone at it until a green square pops up (If it won’t scan, tap “Other Options” to try the barcode or enter the QR PIN manually).
  5. Connect to Wi-Fi – Locate and press the Setup button on the front of the Ring Doorbell Pro, wait for the light to start spinning, and follow the in-app steps.
  6. Wait for updates – If the Ring Doorbell Pro needs an update, give it a few minutes to finish and don’t interact with the device, as it might slow things down.

Note: The Ring app menus and buttons may vary based on whether you use Android or iOS!

Ring Doorbell Pro Not Connecting to WiFi – 6 Ways to Fix!

Note: Have you tried rebooting your Wi-Fi router and Ring Doorbell Pro simultaneously?

1. Switch Wi-Fi Network Frequency

switch wi-fi network frequency

If your Ring Doorbell Pro won’t connect to Wi-Fi, let’s start by making sure that the doorbell does support your network’s frequency.

Any Ring Pro models can use both 2.4 GHz and 5 GHz bands, which is great if you want speed with the 5 GHz connection.

However, if your 5 GHz Wi-Fi is weak during setup, it may prevent the Ring Doorbell Pro from connecting entirely.

Sometimes, the 5 GHz band just doesn’t reach far enough or gets blocked/weakened by walls or other solids, while the 2.4 GHz Wi-Fi bypasses those limitations.

Try switching over to your 2.4 GHz network; it’s got better range and often connects in just a few seconds without issues.

Quick Tip: Use your smartphone to verify that the Wi-Fi you’re attempting to connect Ring with is online, accessible, and reachable.

Models That Support 2.4 GHz Only:

models that support 2.4 ghz only

Not all Ring Doorbells are dual-band like the Pro. If you’re troubleshooting a different model, here’s a list of those limited to 2.4 GHz only:

  • Ring Video Doorbell
  • Ring Video Doorbell Wired
  • Ring Video Doorbell 2

If you’re troubleshooting one of these models, note that 5 GHz isn’t an option, so try to connect to the 2.4 GHz router band to get the doorbell online.

Note: If your Ring Doorbell does not support 5 GHz Wi-Fi, it will not appear in the network list!

2. Power Cycle your Ring Doorbell Pro

If your Ring Doorbell Pro still won’t connect to the Wi-Fi, a quick power cycle might easily solve the problem, especially if you’re dealing with a software bug.

Since the Pro is a wired-only model, you’ll need to disable the power from the circuit breaker, so find the fuse or switch tied to your doorbell and flip it off for about ~30 seconds

Note: If you’re troubleshooting a different Ring model with a battery (not the Pro), make sure it’s charged above 80% since a low battery can disrupt the Wi-Fi connection.

3. Disconnect All Your Ethernet Devices

It may sound weird, but according to some users, if the Ring doorbell pro won’t connect to WiFi to Wi-Fi, it may be because of Ethernet devices connected to the Wi-Fi router.

For some reason (unclear why), the Pro model often can’t connect as long as there are any Ethernet connections.

disconnect all your ethernet devices

Well, the solution is to disconnect all Ethernet cables from the back of your router and leave only the power cable.

Then, head back to the Ring app and go through the setup process to try and connect your Ring Doorbell Pro to the Wi-Fi.

If it finally connects, you’re ready, so go ahead and plug those Ethernet devices back in.

It’s a weird workaround (probably an IP conflict), but it’s worked well for some users, so give it a shot.

4. Disable the 802.11ax/WiFi 6 Mode

If the Ring Doorbell Pro still won’t connect to your Wi-Fi, the issue may be the router’s 802.11ax or Wi-Fi 6 mode.

This newer standard is great for speed, but some devices, including the Pro, can get interrupted, especially if they still only support the older Wi-Fi protocols like “802.11n”.

Turning off Wi-Fi 6 could resolve the connection problem in seconds, but accessing your router settings may be a bit more complicated than you expect.

Let’s break it down with a couple of steps:

How To Access Router Settings?

how to access router settings
  • On a Windows PC, open the Command Prompt (type CMD in the search bar), then type “ipconfig” and hit Enter. Then locate the “Default Gateway” IP (example: 192.168.0.1).
  • On a Mac, open up Terminal, type “netstat -nr | grep default” and spot the gateway IP next to “default.”
  • If you can’t find the default gateway address, flip your router upside down and locate the address on a sticker.

If you still have trouble, just try opening http://192.168.0.1/ in your browser and see if it loads.

Then, try to sign in with the default router credentials, which are admin/admin or rarely admin/password.

Note: If you can’t sign in with the default credentials, they were probably changed by your ISP, so you may need to contact them for assistance.

How to Stop 802.11ax & Wi-Fi 6 Mode:

Once you’re in the router’s GUI, it’s time to hunt down that Wi-Fi 6 setting:

  1. First, find the “Wireless Settings” section.
  2. Then, go to the “Advanced Wireless” tab.
  3. Find the “Wireless Mode” option section.
  4. Change “802.11” to 802.11ac or 802.11n.

After that, reboot your Wi-Fi router, and retry connecting your Ring Doorbell Pro in the app and see if it finally works.

If not, continue reading ahead.

5. Uninstall & Reinstall the Ring App

If your Ring Doorbell Pro still won’t connect to Wi-Fi, the problem might not be the doorbell or your router, it could be the Ring application.

Glitches often appear, especially if you keep your application out of date, and the most powerful way to resolve all problems at once is a clean reinstallation.

uninstall & reinstall the ring app

Here’s how to do it on iOS or Android:

  • For iOS: Press and hold the Ring app icon on your home screen until the options appear, then choose “Remove App” → “Delete App”.
  • For Android: Go to Settings Apps Ring, tap Uninstall, then open the Google Play Store, find “Ring,” and hit Install to get it back.

Once the app’s reinstalled, open it up, sign in, and run through the setup process for your Ring Doorbell Pro again.

If it’s not working and you still can’t connect to the Wi-Fi, continue reading!

6. Factory Reset your Ring Doorbell

If all else fails and your Ring Doorbell Pro is not connecting to WiFi, a full reset might be your last shot at fixing it.

This will wipe all settings, clearing out any glitches or settings that could be preventing the doorbell from connecting to the Wi-Fi.

Warning: Resetting or removing the Pro from the app deletes all its video footage—download anything you want to keep first!

factory reset your ring doorbell
  • To factory reset the Ring Doorbell Pro, hold the black button on the right side for ~20 seconds, then release it.

The front Ring light will flash and stop when the reset is done.

After the reset, you’ll need to set up your Ring Doorbell Pro again in the app as if it’s brand new. This should hopefully get it back online with your Wi-Fi.

Pro Tip: If you’re still unable to connect, rule out the possibility of your network causing this issue by sharing a mobile hotspot from your smartphone and trying to connect the doorbell.
