wyze doorbell v2 flashing blue

If the Wyze Doorbell v2 flashing blue nonstop, you’re probably wondering what may be wrong, especially when you’re used to seeing this only when motion is detected.

Your camera can’t be picking up motion all the time, right?

Well, that blinking light usually means motion has been detected, but when it won’t stop, it’s a sign something’s off, such as a connection issue.

Don’t worry–this guide will walk you through everything you need to know and teach you how to resolve the blinking blue light, regardless.

Blue Blinking Light on Wyze Doorbell v2 Meaning:

On the Wyze Doorbell v2, a blinking blue light is usually not a problem, it’s the camera’s way of indicating that motion has been detected.

This is only normal, however, when the doorbell is set up successfully, connected to the Wi-Fi, and working.

However, a lot of users encounter the same blue light flashing continuously during setup, especially when the doorbell refuses to connect to Wi-Fi.

Well, this is the real problem. It means that you cannot connect the Wyze Doorbell v2 to Wi-Fi.

Wyze Doorbell v2 Flashing Blue – 7 Steps Troubleshooting!

Note: Have you tried rebooting your Wyze Doorbell v2?

1. Turn OFF the Wyze Status Light

Note: Only apply this method if your Wyze doorbell camera is working well, but you don’t want to see the blue blinking light constantly.

  1. In the Wyze app, press on your Wyze doorbell
  2. Press the Settings icon → Advanced Settings.
  3. Press the toggle next to “Camera Status Light”.

Note: Only the Wyze Doorbell Pro does not support the function of disabling the status light!

2. Ensure Your Wi-Fi Is Accessible

If your Wyze Doorbell v2’s blue light won’t stop blinking during setup, it might be struggling to find your Wi-Fi.

A weak signal could be the culprit, so let’s verify that your Wi-Fi reaches the spot.

Grab your phone, head to where your doorbell’s installed, and check the Wi-Fi signal right there.

ensure your wi-fi is accessible

Look at those little bars in the corner; full bars mean a strong signal, but if it’s down to one bar or none, the doorbell’s probably not getting enough signal to connect.

Pro Tip: You can also open your phone’s Wi-Fi settings to see the signal strength in more detail; anything below -70 dBm (like -80 or worse) is not enough.

3. Optimize Your Wireless Coverage

If you’ve found that your Wi-Fi is weak at the spot of your Wyze Doorbell v2, that could explain the endless blue blinking during setup.

Hence, a weak signal makes it tough for the doorbell to connect, but don’t worry—there are some easy ways to optimize the coverage of your network.

optimize your wireless coverage

Here is everything you should try:

  • Move the router closer to the doorbell or vice versa.
  • Elevate the position of the router higher in the room.
  • Point antennas toward your Wyze Doorbell location.
  • Install a Wi-Fi extender between the router and the doorbell.
  • Reduce interference from other RF or Wi-Fi devices.

Quick Tip: Try to connect your Wyze Doorbell v2 to the tethering of your smartphone (personal hotspot) to check whether the connection works.

4. Switch Router to Google’s DNS

If your Wyze Doorbell’s blue light keeps blinking and the Wi-Fi setup fails, your router’s DNS settings might be disrupting the connection.

If you’ve tried connecting the Wyze doorbell to your smartphone tethering, and it worked, but you can’t connect to the Wi-Fi, this justifies everything.

The solution that has helped most users is switching from a default DNS to the Google DNS (8.8.8.8), which requires tweaking your router’s settings.

4.1 How to Log In to Your Router

how to log in to your router

To sign in to your router, you’ll need to find the default gateway:

  • Windows: Open CMD (type “cmd” in Windows search), type “ipconfig”, and note the “Default Gateway” address.
  • macOS: Open Terminal (from Applications Utilities), type “netstat -nr | grep default”, and note the gateway IP next to “default.”
  • Alternative: Check the sticker on the bottom of your router for the gateway IP, or just try typing http://192.168.0.1/ into your browser.

Note: The default login credentials for most routers are admin/admin or admin/password!

4.2 How to Switch to Google DNS

When you’re logged into your router’s GUI, here’s how to swap your DNS:

  1. Find a section like Network or WAN Settings.
  2. Switch your DNS from Auto to Manual mode.
  3. Use 8.8.8.8 as the main and 8.8.4.4 as the secondary.
  4. Save the changes and let your router reboot.

With Google’s DNS set up, that blue blinking should finally stop, and your Wyze Doorbell v2 will hopefully connect to the wireless network.

Note: Your router settings and menus may be different than the steps shown above, so feel free to use the web or the user manual to navigate.

5. Reconnect Wyze Doorbell Wiring

If your Wyze Doorbell v2 blue light keeps flashing, there might be a loose wiring or an insufficiency in the power supply.

The easiest thing to do here is reconnect the wires at both the doorbell and the transformer, which might quickly restore the doorbell’s operation and stop the blue light.

Here’s how to safely reconnect the doorbell’s wiring:

5.1 Reconnect Wires at Doorbell:

reconnect wires at doorbell
  1. First, turn off the power at the circuit breaker.
  2. Unscrew your doorbell from the wall plate.
  3. Loosen the screws on the doorbell’s back.
  4. Disconnect the old wires and/or extensions.
  5. Attach the wires (or use the 5” extensions).
  6. Firmly, tighten all screws, twist on wire caps.
  7. Then, mount the doorbell back onto the plate.

5.2 Reconnect Wires at Transformer:

  1. Locate your doorbell chime box and open it up.
  2. Turn off the power from the breaker for safety.
  3. Check the wiring setup or take a quick photo.
  4. Disconnect the wires from the chime controller.
  5. Then, reconnect them to the correct terminals.
  6. Secure it via wire caps and close the chime box.
  7. Turn on the power, and check for an orange flash.

Once you’ve tightened everything up, finish the setup in the Wyze app.

This must stop that blue light from going crazy, especially if the wiring is the issue.

6. Verify the Transformer Voltage

verify the transformer voltage

Well, if your Wyze Doorbell v2 blue light won’t stop, the transformer’s voltage might be too low or fluctuating, disrupting the setup process.

Wyze Doorbell v2 requires 16V–24V and 10VA to run smoothly, so let’s test whether the output from your transformer is good using a multimeter.

  • Configure Multimeter: First, set your multimeter to AC Voltage (VAC, ~ symbol), range above 24V, like 50V.
  • Fully Stop the Power: Go to your circuit breaker, flip off the doorbell switch, and test the power by pressing a button.
  • Transformer Wiring: Open the chime box or unscrew the doorbell and find the two wires or terminals.
  • Turn Power Back On: Flip the breaker on carefully since the wires will be live, so be very cautious and stay sharp.
  • Put Probes Precisely: Touch the red probe to one terminal screw (or wire), black to the other but don’t cross them.
  • Observe the Voltage: Check the display for 16V—24V; if it jumps, adjust the probes for a steady number.

If you’re seeing less than 16V or the voltage is going wildly up and down, your transformer may be faulty.

Hence, the best way to fix your doorbell’s blue light would be to replace the transformer.

7. Factory Reset Wyze Doorbell v2

If your Wyze doorbell v2 is flashing blue despite everything you’ve tried, a factory reset might be your last resort.

This process wipes all settings back to square one, clearing out any glitches that could be keeping that light on blinking.

Warning: Your Wyze doorbell v2 will be disconnected from the app, all settings will be reverted to default, and you’ll need to carry out the initialization from scratch.

factory reset wyze doorbell v2

Here’s how to factory reset Wyze Doorbell v2 in easy steps:

  1. Remove any microSD cards installed.
  2. Slide the doorbell up and off the plate.
  3. Ensure that it’s still connected to power.
  4. Find the SETUP button behind the unit.
  5. Hold the SETUP button for 15 seconds.
  6. Let go when the light turns solid orange.
  7. Wait for a flashing orange, then re-setup.

Your Wyze Doorbell v2 is back to its factory default state. Once that orange light starts flashing, run through the setup in the Wyze app like it’s brand new.

This should finally resolve the blue blinking, especially if you were dealing with any software bug that wouldn’t go away otherwise.
