SimpliSafe Doorbell Not Connecting To WiFi? (Easy Fix!)

Is your SimpliSafe doorbell not connecting to WiFi? There’s a simple resolution!
Not having Wi-Fi access on your SimpliSafe doorbell not only leaves a feeling of insecurity but also puts your household at risk.
In the majority of cases, the problem can be caused by Wi-Fi/network equipment issues, incompatible frequency, or even a fault with the app.
Now, let’s start with the solutions!
SimpliSafe Doorbell Not Connecting to WiFi – Simple Methods
Note: Perform a standard reboot on the doorbell and Wi-Fi router simultaneously to address non-lasting issues.
1. Pair SimpliSafe with a Compatible Wi-Fi

Let’s start with identifying the types of Wi-Fi you have!
1.1 How to Identify WI-Fi in a Dual-Band Network
Checking the SSID or hostname is by far the easiest way to tell if a Wi-Fi thread from your dual-band network is 2.4 GHz or not.
All you need to do is discover the Wi-Fi through any of your devices and check if there’s “2.4” in the name.
1.2 How to Reconnect SimpliSafe Doorbell to Wi-Fi?
- Open the SimpliSafe app and select the doorbell.
- Go to “Device Health” and tap “Change Network.”
- Wait until the app discovers all nearby networks.
- Pick the 2.4 GHz Wi-Fi from the available options.
- Finally, enter your password and select “Connect.”
Note: You will be prompted to enter the security details (password) for your network.
2. Run a “Connection Check” On SimpliSafe

A quick way to check why the SimpliSafe doorbell camera not connecting to WiFi is to initiate the “Connection Check” feature.
All you need is your smartphone with access to the SimpliSafe® mobile app!
- Tap “Cameras” on the SimpliSafe app’s homepage.
- Tap on the gear icon found in the upper right corner.
- Choose your video doorbell from the device listings.
- Scroll down in the settings of the device for options.
- Press the “Connection Check” button within the tab.
- Follow the instructions and check the outcome data.
After the check is finalized, you will see the connection results of the procedure. That includes the connection status, connection speed, and the network details belonging to your device.
Note: If the check connection check came out negative, it’s almost certainly a range-related issue, so keep reading.
3. Ensure the Doorbell is Within Range

So, the next important step is to ensure the SimpliSafe doorbell is within range of your network router.
We understand that changing the position of security devices, especially doorbells, might be challenging, but there is a set Wi-Fi range your doorbell must be within.
The SimpliSafe doorbell will not stay connected or may even refuse to pair to a Wi-Fi router or an access point that’s farther than 50 meters.
That may be relatively low compatibility for high-end video doorbells, but it’s the only way the connection will remain strong and consistent.
Tip: If you’re unable to relocate the doorbell, try moving your router instead!
4. Adjust the WPA Mode of the Network

As for now in 2025, none of the available SimpliSafe doorbell camera models are compatible with WPA3-only networks.
This means your network must be either set to WPA2 or use some type of WPA 3/2 Mixed Mode in order to connect with your devices.
The Wi-Fi Protected Access configuration is responsible for allowing devices to pair with the network wirelessly to either the 2.4 GHz or the 5 GHz band.
4.1 How to Access the Router Web GUI?
- Find the router’s gateway on a sticker on the bottom panel.
- Paste the gateway’s value into your PC or laptop’s browser.
- Type “admin” for both username and password in the login tab.
- Press “Enter” and you should be at the GUI’s user homepage.
4.2 How to Configure the WPA Router Settings?

Once you’re within the GUI, search for the router’s security panel and press on “Encryption” or “Security.”
There, search for the “WPA” field and ensure the feature is either set to “WPA2” or “WPA Mixed,” based on the available options.
Note: Newer routers are set to “WPA3” by default.
5. Troubleshoot the Wi-Fi Network for Issues
A network issue can be a root cause of why the SimpliSafe doorbell won’t connect to WiFi after all the solutions we’ve attempted so far.
There’s a lineup of methods to try that should improve the functionality of the network and hopefully reconnect the doorbell.

Try this on your network and network equipment:
- Power cycle the router by unplugging it for 60 seconds.
- Check if the router’s network cable is securely plugged.
- Reduce the network’s overall bandwidth resource usage.
- Ensure the router OS is up-to-date through the GUI/app.
- Perform a system reset on the router and reconfigure it.
Tip: Get in touch with the ISP if the router is displaying an unusual light or there is no internet in the network.
6. Test SimpliSafe on a Mobile Hotspot
If other devices connected to your network are also experiencing disruptions, there’s a good chance of a local Wi-Fi problem.
That’s why the next step is to test the SimpliSafe on your smartphone’s hotspot by following the setup instructions from step #1.

- To activate the hotspot on an Android, go to “Settings” → “Mobile/Cellular Data” → “Hotspot” and set the feature to “On.”
- To activate the hotspot on an iPhone, go to “Settings” → “Personal Hotspot” and enable the “Allow Others to Join” tile in the menu.
Under the “Hotspot” section of the menu, search for the “SSID” or “hostname” field along with the exact connection password.
The SSID is the name through which other devices will discover your smartphone and the password is for allowing the connection.
7. Reinstall the SimpliSafe Home Security App
Another quick solution to issues with the SimpliSafe doorbell is to reinstall the mobile app.
The platform works as a dependency between your network and the doorbell and any potential fault could prevent the camera from connecting.

- If you’re on Android, open the Google Play Store and go to “Profile” → “Manage Installed Apps” → “SimpliSafe Home Security App” → “Uninstall.”
- If you’re on an iPhone, locate the app on the homepage, press and hold it for 3 seconds until the “Remove this app” menu shows up.
After the app is uninstalled, relaunch the Google Play Store or App Store and download its most current version after searching for “SimpliSafe.”
Tip: Regularly clear the app’s generated cache to prevent any future functionality issues!
8. Restore the Doorbell to Factory Defaults
If neither of the solutions had any effect and your SimpliSafe doorbell not connecting to WiFi, then perhaps a factory reset is the key resolution.
The procedure involves erasing all of the doorbell’s settings by activating the “Factory Reset” system function through a built-in button on the doorbell.

Here’s a complete guide to factory resetting the SimpliSafe doorbell:
- Release the security screw on the bottom of your device.
- Carefully release the doorbell’s faceplate from the mount.
- Hold the larger button on the back of the doorbell plate.
- Release the button after 30 seconds to start the procedure.
- Wait until the reset is finished all the way through and test.
Warning: None of the doorbell’s settings can be restored after the reset is complete!
