Complete SimpliSafe Doorbell Removal–6 Quick Steps!

Note: Follow the steps consecutively!

Step #1 Disarm SimpliSafe Doorbell

So, the first step is to disarm your system through the app before proceeding with the physical removal.

All you need is access to the SimpliSafe mobile application account that registered the doorbell in the first place and a connected smartphone.

The OS disarm consists of two steps:

  • Removal of the doorbell’s device profile
  • Uninstallation of the SimpliSafe account

How to Remove the SimpliSafe Profile?

  1. Open the SimpliSafe app and go to “My System”.
  2. Next, press “Camera Settings” from the options.
  3. Tap on your doorbell to access the configuration.
  4. Scroll to the bottom of the configuration settings.
  5. Tap on “Remove Device” to ‘forget’ the doorbell.

How to Deactivate a SimpliSafe Account?

Well, closing your account involves getting in touch with SimpliSafe Customer Service.

The account closing procedure is still not automated, and you would have to provide the agent with all the required account details.

Cancellation is especially mandatory if you have activated subscriptions and don’t know how to cancel them through the application.

There are two methods of contacting SimpliSafe:

  • Over a live chat.
  • Calling (855) 693-4911

If you’re calling customer support, ensure it’s during working hours, 8 AM to approximately midnight, 11:30 PM Monday through Friday.

We also recommend uninstalling the SimpliSafe app unless you have other remaining products.

Step #2 Turn Off the Circuit Breaker

This is where the physical removal of the SimpliSafe doorbell begins!

After successfully removing the product from the SimpliSafe app, if it no longer works as your system’s surveillance, proceed with disabling the power at the breaker to remove the faceplate.

How to Identify the Doorbell Circuit?

Upon opening the circuit breaker panel, there should be a switch for each room in the home.

The doorbell installation is typically on a separate line, so search for a switch saying “Doorbell”, “SimpliSafe,” or something similar.

How to Disable the Breaker’s Power?

Once you’ve found the switch, slowly push it towards the “Off” position and wait for at least 60 seconds before working on your doorbell.

If your doorbell installation does not have a separate switch, just undo or power OFF the fuse powering the room (environment) of your SimpliSafe doorbell.

Alert: If you’re not sure whether the doorbell power is off, try flipping any light switch in this area of your home to check whether there is power.

Step #3 Remove the Security Screw

remove the security screw

So, one of the most important steps in the SimpliSafe doorbell removal process is the security screw’s uninstallation.

You must use the T5 Torx screwdriver supplied in the package of your SimpliSafe doorbell to loosen and remove the security screw from the bottom of the faceplate.

Warning: Only proceed to loosen the security screw and detach the faceplate after disabling the power at the circuit breaker.

3.1 How to Undo SimpliSafe Security Screw?

First, identify the security screw by bending underneath the faceplate.

It is a small, round screw that holds the faceplate attached to the mounting plate.

Insert the T5 Torx screwdriver supplied by SimpliSafe and loosen it until it comes out.

Now, use your fingers to pull the screw out and the faceplate should be loose now!

3.2 How to Remove the SimpliSafe Faceplate?

The faceplate will become instantly removable, as soon as the security screw is taken out and nothing is holding the doorbell with the mounting plate.

All you need to do is grip the faceplate and pull it upwards to detach it from the mounting plate.

3.3 How to Factory Reset SimpliSafe Doorbell?

Upon uninstalling the faceplate, we recommend a factory reset to erase the doorbell’s system settings.

Well, some built-in features of the SimpliSafe doorbell won’t be erased after erasing the device’s profile and deactivating your account.

To factory reset the SimpliSafe doorbell, hold the Reset button on the back of the faceplate, right above the micro-USB port.

Hold the button for an average of ~10 seconds to power off the doorbell and initiate the factory reset.

Tip: It’s recommended to connect the doorbell to a charger during the reset.

Step #4 Detach the Terminal Wires

The chime wires (Front, Rear, and Trans) connect with the terminals of the doorbell mounting plate.

Before unscrewing the mounting plate and finalizing the doorbell installation, you must disconnect the powering wires by loosening the terminals.

Note: The terminal screws use a Phillips screwdriver.

How to Identify the SimpliSafe Terminals?

Right after removing the faceplate, you should see the following:

  • A total of 3 more screws hold the mounting plate.
  • 2 wires are attached to the terminals of your unit.

Right on top of the terminals, there will be small screws that tighten the wires around them.

Upon loosening either of the screws, the doorbell installation’s wire should come off easily.

How to Loosen the Terminal Wires?

To undo the terminal wires, insert the compatible screwdriver and rotate them toward the left.

Ensure that by the time your screwdriver contacts the terminal screw, there is no power supply in the system, as that could result in an electric shock.

Once the screw is loose enough, simply pull the wire out of the terminal and there won’t be any power reaching your doorbell now, even with the circuit breaker turned on.

Step #5 Uninstall the Mounting Plate

uninstall the mounting plate

Once all wires are removed from the doorbell terminals, it’s time to finalize the removal process by detaching the mounting plate.

In most cases, the mounting plate is drilled into your wall, so you can either use a drill with the respective size or remove it with a screwdriver.

With the faceplate and terminal wires removed, there should be a total of 2 screws holding the mounting plate attached.

So, use the drill to safely remove the screws, after which the mounting plate should also come loose.

How to Cover the Doorbell Hole?

The chime wires connecting with your doorbell are led through a hole that connects your chime and door frame.

If you’re not replacing the SimpliSafe doorbell and simply wish to get rid of the system, consider filling up the hole with plaster or another wooden block

Step #6 Uninstall the Chime (Optional)

uninstall the chime (optional)

Now that you know exactly how to remove SimpliSafe doorbell and aren’t planning on replacing the system, then it’s recommended to also remove the chime

The wires you disconnected from the mounting plate earlier are those that establish the physical connection between the doorbell and the digital or mechanical chime.

The chime uninstallation consists of several steps:

  • Access the chime panel: Use a ladder to help you reach the chime’s fuse box above your front door or somewhere along the main hallway.
  • Open the chime panel: Use a compatible screwdriver to undo the screws on the chime panel and expose the chime transformer inside.
  • Disconnect the wires: Proceed to unplug each of the chime’s wires from the terminals on the transformer to suspend all power supply to the chime.
  • Uninstall the chime body: Use a screwdriver to remove the chime body from the wall, along with the internal transformer and all of the terminals.
  • Cover the wires: If you’re not removing the entire wire installation, consider covering the screws coming out of your wall.

So, that was everything involved in the SimpliSafe doorbell removal process.

However, if you want to take the removal further and get rid of the wiring, you may need to speak with a qualified technician regarding the system’s wires, as the wires may be running through the home’s walls.
