Worried with Blink Mini Clicking Noise? (Simple Fixes!)

Hearing a Blink Mini clicking noise while the camera operates can be bothersome, especially if you’re using it in a quiet space like a nursery or home office where silence matters.
This sound often comes from the IR filter switching for night vision, but don’t worry—there is a way to fix it.
Let’s explore some practical solutions to stop the Blink Mini’s clicking noise permanently!
How to Fix the Blink Mini Clicking Noise? [10 Easy Solutions!]
Note: Have you tried repositioning the camera to change the ambient lighting?
1. Disable the “Night Vision” Option
The clicking noise on your Blink Mini camera comes from the IR filter switching for night vision, which can be particularly loud in quiet spaces.
Temporarily setting the night vision setting to off within your Blink mobile application will help you determine if the IR filter causes the clicking.
Follow these steps to resolve the Blink Mini clicking:
- Open the Blink app and tap “More” on the device thumbnail.
- Go to “Device Settings”, then “Video and Photo Settings”.
- Access the “Night Vision” tab and choose the “Off” option.
- Save the changes, then check if the Blink Mini’s clicking stops.
Remember that keeping the camera’s night vision activated throughout the day could disrupt the picture quality of the live feed.
Additionally, if the clicking intensifies throughout the day, then the issue is certainly caused by the IR filter that’s trying to overlay your broadcast with night vision.
Note: Setting the night vision to “Auto” keeps the IR filter active and responsive to changes in lighting conditions.
2. Lower Motion Detection Sensitivity
Frequent motion detection can trigger the Blink Mini IR filter, causing your camera to click as it starts to adjust according to the lighting conditions.
So, we recommend lowering the sensitivity in the app, which may reduce these adjustments and minimize the noise.
Follow these steps to lower the Blink camera sensitivity:
- Select “Motion Settings” within the Blink application.
- Now, find the “Motion Sensitivity” slider on the page.
- Now, lower the sensitivity by dragging it toward the left.
- Next, press “Save” to apply the new sensitivity setting.
- Set the Blink camera system to “Armed” at the home tab.
Keep walking in front of the Blink Mini camera while adjusting the sensitivity to determine which levels work perfectly to minimize unwanted motion recording.
3. Regulate the Room Lighting
Well, the Blink Mini IR filter is designed to activate in dim or low-light conditions, which leads to clicking when the night vision turns on.
Increasing the room lighting can prevent the automatic IR sensor adjustment and reduce the clicking noise without impacting the camera performance.
Add a steady light source, like a soft lamp, to maintain consistent brightness in the capture area of the Blink Mini camera.
Ensure the light stays on during the camera’s active hours to prevent the IR filter from activating the night vision.
Note: Avoid particularly strong lighting to prevent glare on the camera lens!
4. Temporarily Disarm the Blink System
If you’re still wondering how to turn off the clicking noise on Blink Mini camera, the frequent motion detection may activate the IR filter while the camera is armed.
Hence, disarming the system will cease motion events, which will hopefully put an end to the persistent clicking.
- Open the Blink application and tap “Disarmed” at the bottom.
A confirmation message will appear once the system is disarmed.
So, we recommend keeping the camera disarmed for at least ~10–15 minutes to determine whether the clicking is still there.
Note: Re-arm the system when you need the motion detection feature again!
5. Power Cycle the Blink Mini Camera
The clicking noise might be occurring from a minor glitch in the camera system, causing the IR filter to activate repeatedly, even if there are no changes in the light.
Hence, a power cycle can discharge the Blink Mini camera and eliminate temporary and non-lasting functionality problems.
Here’s how to power cycle the Blink Mini in easy steps:
- Disconnect the Blink Mini camera from the power source.
- Wait 10 seconds to ensure the camera fully powers down.
- Reconnect the camera back into the power source securely.
- Now, turn on the Blink Mini and check if the clicking persists.
While the Blink Mini is disconnected, check if there’s any damage inflicted on the equipment or the power cord, and connect the camera to an alternative outlet.
6. Re-add the Blink Mini Camera Profile
A software glitch might cause the Blink camera to click repeatedly by activating the IR filter.
Removing and re-adding the Blink Mini camera from the Blink mobile application can reset the connection and permanently stop the noise.
Step #1: Remove the Blink Mini Profile
- Launch the Blink app and select “More” on the thumbnail.
- Go to “Device Settings” → “General Settings” in the tab.
- After that, scroll down and tap the “Delete Device” option.
- Now, confirm the Blink Mini camera removal and then wait.
Step #2: Re-add the Blink Mini Camera
- Tap the plus icon on the Blink app homepage
- Select “Mini cameras” in the device option tab.
- Scan the QR code on the back of the Blink Mini.
- Add the camera to an existing room configuration.
- Now, set up the Blink Mini with Wi-Fi and then test.
After the setup, we recommend unplugging the Blink camera again for approximately 30–60 seconds.
Then, ensure the system is set to “Armed” within the application and check if the clicking is still there.
7. Move the Blink Mini (Multi-Camera Setup)
The reason why the Blink Mini makes a clicking noise could be due to IR filter re-adjustment as a result of nearby interference by the IR sensor of another camera.
So, the IR filter repositioning will cause the camera to produce a clicking noise. To stop it, you must eliminate interference.
Here are several positioning tips for the Blink Mini cameras:
- Position cameras at least 15 feet apart to avoid IR overlap.
- Angle the Blink Mini away from other cameras’ direct lines.
- Verify there are no reflective surfaces in-between the cams.
Note: Test the new position at night to confirm IR effectiveness!
8. Clean the Blink Mini IR Lens
Dirt or smudges on the IR sensor can “confuse” the Blink Mini camera’s IR sensor and cause it to re-adjust, thus producing the clicking noise.
Cleaning the sensor carefully can resolve this issue and restore the smooth operation of the Blink Mini camera and the IR sensor.
What Do You Need:
- A soft microfiber cloth for gentle cleaning.
- A can of compressed air for dust removal.
- A small amount of lens cleaner (if needed).
How to Clean the Blink Mini IR Sensor:
- Turn off the camera and unplug it from the outlet.
- Gently wipe the IR sensor with a microfiber cloth.
- Use the compressed air to clean the dust particles.
- Reconnect the camera and check for the clicking.
Warning: Do not reconnect the camera before the lens cover has fully dried up!
9. Change the Blink Mini Camera Wi-Fi
The IR sensor could be activated if the Blink Mini camera Wi-Fi is unstable or fluctuating.
So we recommend temporarily pairing your camera to another Wi-Fi network to exclude the possibility.
Tip: You can use your smartphone hotspot or a guest/public Wi-Fi network to test.
How to Change the Blink Mini Wi-Fi:
- Tap “More” on the device thumbnail within the Blink app.
- Go to “Device Settings” and select “General Settings”,
- Next, tap the “Change Wi-Fi” button in the app settings.
- Wait for a blinking blue and steady green light to appear.
- Follow the app instructions to change the Blink Mini Wi-Fi.
Ensure you have the correct SSID and password value for the new network of the Blink Mini.
After successfully changing the camera Wi-Fi, access the live feed and listen for the clicking.
10. Restore the Blink Mini to Defaults
Well, if nothing helped with the Blink Mini clicking noise, then it’s time for a factory reset.
Factory resetting the Blink Mini camera can clear temporal issues and permanently stop the clicking noise from the IR sensor, as long as the issue is on the software end.
While the Mini is plugged in, use a paper clip or small screwdriver to press and hold the Reset button for over 5 seconds until a solid red light appears.
You can release the button, wait for the Blink mini camera to enter setup mode, and then add it to the application to test for clicking.
