How to Transfer Nest Camera To Google Home? (Here’s How!)

As the Nest mobile app is slowly on its way out, more and more users tend to transfer Nest camera to Google Home.
With Google’s approachable interface and simple transfer procedure, you will keep all of the Nest camera’s settings and even gain access to new Home app features.
However, you should note that your Nest camera product must meet certain requirements, and you must also be the owner of both accounts for the transfer to happen.
How to Transfer Nest Camera to Google Home? 4 Easy Steps!
Note: Verify you have the latest Nest and Google Home apps installed on your mobile device.
1. Check if the Nest Camera is Eligible

The first step is to check whether the Nest camera is eligible for transfer by checking Google Home’s camera registration requirements.
Upon successful migration, all of your camera’s settings should be automatically re-applied within the Google Home app.
Keep in mind that besides the main camera functions supported within both platforms, you may lose access to Nest app-specific features after the transfer.
Important Eligibility Factors for Transferring Nest:
Ensure the following before proceeding with the transfer:
- You have the Nest Cam IQ Indoor/Outdoor, Nest Cam Outdoor/Indoor, and Nest Doorbell (1st gen, wired), also known as “Nest Hello.”
- You must have subscribed for a 2nd Gen Nest Aware subscription or not have a subscription at all.
- The Google Home app must be in “Public Preview” by pressing on the lab icon within the mobile app or the web adaptation.
- You must have a registered Nest and Google Home account to transfer the camera successfully, without pending suspensions.
Note: If your camera and setup meet all of this, proceed with the next step to prepare your Google Home account for the migration!
2. Prepare your Google Home Account

Before initiating the migration, you must ensure your Google Home app meets certain standards in terms of account selection, firmware, and device availability.
Proceed with the steps to prepare Google Home for Nest transfer!
Ensure you’re Signed in to Google
The first and most important preparation step is to ensure you’re logged in to the correct Google account that will register your Nest camera.
Later, you will be prompted to assign the camera to a position (room configuration) that allows for seamless integration with the other participating Google devices in your profile.
Check if the Home App is Up-to-Date

The Google Home app must be updated to at least version 3.26 or higher in order to accept the camera’s transfer from the Nest application.
Before proceeding further with the instructions, you can check if the app is up-to-date on your Android, iPhone, or iPad device.
Check the Device’s Internet Connection
Although this step does not refer to the Google Home app directly, you will need a consistent and reliable internet connection until the end of the transfer.
We recommend switching to your home’s Wi-Fi to ensure there are no cellular-related disruptions or signal problems.
Bonus Tip: Clear the cache of the Google Home if you’ve been using it a lot recently to improve the performance during the transfer.
3. Manage the Nest Subscription Status

Checking the Nest subscription status is important before starting the transfer Nest camera to Google Home operation.
As established, you must have a 2nd generation Nest Aware subscription to transfer your camera or no subscription at all.
Important: Users with a first-generation subscription would have to cancel the plan to transfer the camera.
How do you view subscription status in the Nest App?
To view the status of your Nest subscription, open the app and navigate to “Settings” → “Nest Aware.”
There, you will see the current subscription status, expiry date, date of renewal, and payment-related details.
You can also check the version of your subscription and cancel it if it’s first-generation.
Also, 2nd-generation subscriptions will be automatically transferred to Google Home.
4. Initiate the Transferring Procedure

Once you’ve prepared your Nest camera, Google Home account, and subscription status, it’s time to initiate the transferring procedure.
All you have to do is ensure that the Nest camera is turned on throughout the entire procedure and that your phone is connected to the internet.
Proceed with the appropriate steps based on the prompt you’ve received!
How to Start Via Automatic Notification?
Upon installing the Google Home app on your device, you will receive an automated notification, informing you of the transfer availability.
Pressing “Continue…” on the prompt takes you directly to the Google Home transfer screen.
How to Start the Nest Transfer Manually?

If you dismiss the notification that appeared within the Nest app, you will be prompted to initiate the procedure manually, through the settings.
Here’s how:
- Open the Nest app and access the “Settings” tab.
- Now, press on “Transfer to Home app” to proceed.
- Check the criteria again for a list of the requirements.
- Click “Continue” once you get past the “Review” page.
- When ready, tap “Transfer” and tap “Transfer” again.
- Follow the remaining instructions to start the procedure.
Note: Do not interact with the app or camera once the transfer begins!
Transfer Camera From Nest to Google Home – The Results!
So, after the transfer is completed, you will immediately notice that Google Home’s interface is nothing like Nest’s.
You can still view the camera’s simple settings, but as we established, Nest had specific cam features that you will no longer have access to through the Home application.

For example, the transfer results include:
- Your Nest camera’s history will be stored in Google Home.
- Camera history in Nest will be accessible until expiration.
- The camera’s live feed will be visible only via Google Home.
- All of your camera’s settings will be re-tuned in Google Home.
Remember that the transfer may take as long as 30 minutes to finish and for all of the settings to be re-applied.
So, verify the smartphone stays connected and the Nest camera remains on.
Note: If you’re facing any transferring problems, don’t hesitate to contact the respective customer service for additional assistance.
