Echo Studio Not Connecting To WiFi? (Let’s Fix!)
Is your Echo Studio not connecting to WiFi and you’re wondering why? Well, keep reading the guide!
Such as any other Echo device, the Echo Studio connects to the Wi-Fi during the setup with the Alexa application.
If you’re unable to connect your device, there is either an issue with the setup process of your Echo Studio the Wi-Fi/broadband is offline or the Wi-Fi router is not accessible.
Let’s jump straight into the solutions and discover the problem!
Echo Studio Not Connecting to WiFi – 6 Quick Ways To Fix!
Quick Tip: Before you start, unplug your Echo Studio from the power for 60 seconds!
1. Set Up Your Echo Studio Correctly
The first and most important step is to ensure that you’re carrying out the setup process of the Echo Studio the right way.
Hence, this step will walk you through the instructions for pairing your Echo Studio to the Alexa application and then connecting the device to the home Wi-Fi network.
Here’s how to set up and connect Echo Studio to Wi-Fi:
- Position your Echo Studio in the desired location.
- Open the Alexa app and go to the “Devices” tab.
- Next, tap on the plus + icon, which is Add Device.
- Tap Amazon Echo → Echo, Dot, Pop, and more.
- Next, follow the steps in your Alexa application.
- You should see “Searching for Wi-Fi” in the app.
- Choose the Wi-Fi you would like to connect with.
- Insert the password to connect your Echo Studio.
When ready, you should see “Your Echo Studio is now connected”.
If you, however, see any different message, an error, or other issue with the connection, continue reading the next step…
2. Move Echo Studio Closer to Router
As simple as it may sound, in most cases the reason why Echo Studio can’t connect to Wi-Fi is because of a too great distance between the speaker and Wi-Fi source.
Hence, relocating your Echo Studio closer to the Wi-Fi source (router) might be the best next step to resolve the issue.
We recommend keeping your Echo Studio within a range of 50 feet from the Wi-Fi router, which will guarantee that the wireless signal is strong.
Quick Tip: If you still can’t connect your Echo Studio, move the device to the same room as the router just to test the Wi-Fi connection.
3. Optimize Your Wireless Connection
If your Echo Studio won’t connect to WiFi, the next important step is to ensure that the wireless network is accessible.
So, we’ll guide you through a few steps to optimize, and verify your Wi-Fi.
3.1 Test Your Wi-Fi Connectivity
You should start with testing whether other devices can access your Wi-Fi network. This is very easy as you only need your smartphone.
Simply connect to the same Wi-Fi that you’re trying to pair your Echo Studio to, and check if you can access the web and whether the phone is online.
So, based on your findings, here is what to do next:
- If the smartphone is online, jump to solution #4
- If not, your Wi-Fi is offline, so continue reading
3.2 Power Cycle Wireless Router
If you’ve identified that your Wi-Fi is down/offline, press the Power button on your Wi-Fi router to power it off and then unplug the cable for 60 seconds.
This will power cycle the machine, restart the Wi-Fi, and hopefully when the router loads up, you will be able to connect your Echo Studio.
Reminder: Follow the steps in solution #1 to connect Echo Studio to the Alexa app and Wi-Fi.
3.3 Reduce Network Congestion
So, if the Wi-Fi is offline or not accessible, even after a power cycle, there might be congestion from too many connected devices.
We recommend powering off, or disconnecting some of the devices paired with the Wi-Fi router, just for the time being, so you can try connecting the Echo.
Note: Temporarily stop downloading, uploading, or seeding content through the Wi-Fi network.
3.4 Disable Active VPN or Proxy
The last potential possibility why Echo Studio won’t connect to your “working” Wi-Fi is because of an activated VPN or Proxy.
So, check your connected devices/computers for VPN software that you can disable, and log into your router settings to check for configured or activated Proxy.
Note: To access your router’s settings insert http://192.168.100.1/ into a web browser and log in via admin/admin or admin/password.
4. Switch from 5 GHz to 2.4 GHz Wi-Fi
The Echo Studio is dual-band, which means the device can discover and connect to both the 2.4 GHz Wi-Fi and 5 GHz Wi-Fi.
- Well, if you didn’t know, the 5 GHz Wi-Fi is much faster than the 2.4 GHz Wi-Fi, but the signal strength/coverage is much weaker, unstable, and unreliable.
Hence, if you were unsuccessfully trying to connect Echo Studio to the 5 GHz Wi-Fi, you should definitely try connecting to the 2.4 GHz Wi-Fi.
Note: If your router is dual-band, by default the two Wi-Fi networks either have “2.4” or “5” in their SSID (name).
5. Reset Your Echo Studio to Defaults
If nothing works and Echo Studio not connecting to WiFi, one of the best working solutions is to perform a factory reset.
However, we only recommend performing this method if your Wi-Fi is accessible and online by multiple other devices and only your Echo Studio is unable to connect.
Here’s how to factory reset Echo Studio in easy steps:
- First, ensure that your Echo Studio is powered on.
- Find the Microphone and Volume Down buttons.
- Press and hold both buttons for ~20–25 seconds.
- Wait for the light ring to power OFF and ON again.
- Follow the instructions in solution #1 for the setup.
When ready, retry to connect your Echo to the Wi-Fi. If your Echo Studio still can’t connect to the Wi-Fi, there is one last thing to attempt…
Warning: The factory reset will erase ALL settings on your Echo Studio permanently!
6. Pair Your Echo to Personal Hotspot
If you have tried all the previous steps, all odds and evidence show that either your Echo Studio is too far away from the router or your Wi-Fi is not accessible.
Hence, to quickly find out what is wrong, you can try sharing a personal hotspot from your smartphone and connecting your Echo.
Note: To share a hotspot you need an iOS or Android device with a SIM card (mobile data).
Here’s how to share a personal hotspot from an Android or iOS device:
- Android: Settings → Network & internet → Hotspot & tethering → Wi-Fi hotspot
- iOS: Home → Settings → Personal Hotspot → Allow Others to Join → Enable
You can check or change the Wi-Fi hotspot’s password from the same tab where you enable the feature, so note it down.
Then go up to solution #1 and try connecting your Echo to the hotspot.
Note: If Echo Studio won’t connect even to your hotspot, we recommend contacting Amazon for support or attempting to claim your product warranty.
