Vivint Doorbell Not Ringing Inside House? (Fix it Fast!)

You’re probably missing important visitors and deliveries when your Vivint doorbell not ringing inside house, which is not acceptable for a high-end device.
Well, the problem could be at several places–your system’s panel, your chime selection, the doorbell’s connection, or even the power supply in some cases.
We will help you identify the exact cause of the ringing issue and provide expert solutions.
Vivint Doorbell Not Ringing Inside House – 8 Easy Fix Steps!
Tip: Have you tried resetting the power of the Vivint doorbell system at the circuit breaker?
1. Turn Up the System Volume
The Vivint Doorbell Pro is hardwired by default and doesn’t require an external mechanical or digital chime.
That’s because the Vivint system panel functions as the doorbell’s indoor system and sounds whenever someone presses your doorbell.
So, the first step is to ensure the panel’s volume is increased sufficiently and responds each time your doorbell is pressed.
Here’s how to adjust the sound on your Vivint panel:
- Ensure you’re on the panel’s homepage.
- Tap the settings icon in the right corner.
- Locate and access the “General” section.
Now, adjust the following:
- “PANEL VOLUME” – Drag the slider towards the right speaker icon.
- “DOORBELL VOLUME” – Drag the volume slider towards the right end.
The panel volume defines how audible should your Vivint doorbell’s chime alert be, whilst the doorbell volume regulates the sound during motion detections.
So, we recommend setting the volume percentages of both the doorbell and the panel in the range between 70% and 80%.
2. Adjust the Doorbell’s Ringtone
If you have a Vivint panel that works as your doorbell chime, then you can assign custom ringing tones through the Vivint mobile app.
Let’s learn how:
- Tap the “Menu” icon on the panel of your Vivint system.
- Tap “Toolbox” and unlock the tab with the 4-digit PIN.
- Press “Chime setup” and specify a new tone for Vivint.
You will be able to pick from several options, such as:
- “Traditional”
- “Elevator”
- “Modern”
- “Bells”
- “Melody”
We recommend testing each one to determine if the panel will reproduce the doorbell’s chime noise. If not, the doorbell is probably muted.
3. Unmute the Vivint Doorbell
If you’re still frustrated and asking why my Vivint doorbell isn’t ringing, it’s probably because the chime has been set to “Mute” within the app by accident.
The Vivint app has separate system controls from the ones on the panel, so increasing the volume may not always be the solution.
3.1 How to Unmute Vivint On iPhone?
- Open the Vivint app and access the camera screen.
- Now, tap on your doorbell camera’s dashboard below.
- Go down to the “Mute Doorbell” option on the page.
- Ensure the feature is set to “Off” and exit the settings.
3.2 How to Unmute Vivint On Android?
- Head over to the Vivint panel of your doorbell.
- Tap the camera option to view Vivint’s live feed.
- Press the settings icon in the upper-right corner.
- Enter the master code to unlock the doorbell tab.
- Next, locate the “Mute Doorbell” function below.
- Extend the options and set the feature to “Off”.
The Vivint doorbell may sometimes enter a “Mute” state entirely by itself as a result of an OS update or a problem with the app.
We recommend updating the Vivint app to the most current firmware version and checking if your phone is connected to the internet (Wi-Fi/Mobile Data).
Note: The Android version of the Vivint mobile app doesn’t have a “Mute” setting!
4. Check the Indoor Cam/Chime
If you don’t have a panel that’s set up to ring when someone is at your door, then you either use an indoor Vivint camera or a doorbell chime.
So, let’s walk you through the thorough inspection:
4.1 How to Check for an Indoor Cam/Chime?
So, the first step is to check whether or not your Vivint doorbell relies on an indoor camera or a separate chime to ring inside.
The indoor camera requires a consistent connection with a power source, while the chime connects with the doorbell system over a DC transformer.
Identify whether the existing Vivint doorbell installation contains either of these components and proceed with the appropriate instructions.
4.2 How to Inspect the Vivint Camera?
Once detected in your system, the indoor Vivint Camera will be automatically assigned with Chime’s functions if there’s no existing panel.
All you have to do is ensure the following:
- The camera is connected and receives stable A/C.
- The camera is registered within the Vivint platform.
- There’s a consistent connection to the router Wi-Fi.
Once all of these instructions have been met, the camera will start ringing every time someone presses your Vivint doorbell.
Alert: The camera and doorbell must be under the same system configuration!
4.3 How to Inspect the Doorbell Chime?
As we’ve clarified earlier, you can have either a digital or mechanical chime.
The only difference between the chimes is how the sound is produced.
Mechanical chimes use a bell and a hammer to ring, while digital cameras use a speaker with a predefined ringing tone.
The chime can either be above your front door, along the main hallway walls, or, in some cases, in the living room.
Don’t forget to disable the power supply at the circuit breaker before inspection!
Once you’ve found the chime, inspect the following:
- The transformer’s location and quality of connections.
- The condition of the chime’s hardware and installation.
- The functionality of the transformer and the wire polarity.
Note: The mechanical chimes tend to wear faster, while digital chimes often have a third-party application that’s used to configure the ringtone.
5. Reseat Vivint’s Terminal Wires
The terminal wiring could be the reason why the Vivint doorbell camera not ringing.
The Vivint Doorbell Pro is strictly hardwired and requires an existing doorbell installation.
With or without a separate chime, your doorbell still receives power supply through those terminal connections.
Here’s how to access and inspect Vivint’s terminals:
- Remove the Vivint doorbell’s mounting plate.
- Next, loosen Vivint’s mounting plate screws.
- Now, carefully detach the plate from the wall.
- Gently pull out the doorbell installation wires.
- Check if the wires are secured on the poles.
Warning: Always disable the power at the circuit breaker before working on your doorbell!
How to Secure a Vivint Doorbell’s Wires?
If the wires appear loose on the terminals, you can use a wire clipper to bear 2–3 more inches from the wire and tie it around the terminal a few extra times.
Next, put the wires in the mounting plate and tighten the security screws to prevent them from moving.
6. Delete & Re-add the Doorbell
The Vivint doorbell uses NFC (Near Field Communication) to connect with the panel of your system.
So, a synchronization fault could prevent the panel from ringing whenever someone presses on your Vivint doorbell.
That’s why you should re-add the doorbell to check whether this will work:
6.1 How to Delete the Vivint Doorbell?
- Disarm your system through the panel homepage.
- Head to “Device settings” and tap on your panel.
- Scroll to the bottom and press on “Delete camera”.
- Now, wait until Vivint is removed from the system.
6.2 How to Re-add the Vivint Doorbell?
- Tap the menu (…) icon via the Vivint panel.
- Go to “Software version” and enter the PIN.
- Use the default master PIN of your system.
- Tap “Smart Home devices” on the page.
- Head to “NFC” and press the “Add” option.
- Follow the steps to re-add the Vivint device.
After successfully removing the Vivint doorbell from the panel, open the Vivint app and repeat the same instructions as above.
Well, the panel and app settings are almost identical, so you shouldn’t have trouble re-adding the Vivint doorbell once you have done it through your panel.
7. Reinstall the Vivint App
Vivint could be refusing to ring inside your house because of a problem with the app.
Instead of updating or clearing the app’s cache, we recommend straightforward reinstalling to patch the corrupted data, acquire the latest version, and tackle potential issues.
Simply press and hold the app’s icon until the options appear and select “Remove this app” or “Uninstall” to proceed.
After the app is successfully uninstalled, get the most current version through the App Store or Google Play.
Reminder: You will have to sign in to your Vivint account!
8. Reset Vivint to Defaults
If all else fails and your Vivint doorbell not ringing inside the house, then a factory reset must help you resolve the problem in minutes.
The downside here is that the factory restoration will erase ALL of your settings, hence, you’ll need to configure everything in the application again.
Well, as long as it’s not a hardware problem, a factory reset should eliminate any, if not all, functionality issues with the doorbell.
- To factory reset Vivint, go to your doorbell and press the “Ring” button until the indicator of the device turns red.
You should hear the “Release now to factory reset” message!
Shortly after the audio message, Vivint’s indicator will go off, and it will factory reset.
You must then re-add the doorbell over NFC to the panel and complete the Wi-Fi setup in the application.
Note: If your Vivint doorbell refuses to ring inside, get in touch with Vivint customer service for additional assistance.
