Fetch TV Transfer Recordings : (Transfer Like a Pro!)
Fetch TV transfer recordings is possible, and here, we can provide instant ways to do so!
If you’re going on a vacation, multiroom isn’t working correctly, or you wish to cast content to a different screen, it can be possible via multiple methods on Fetch.
You can use a local network to transfer recordings, set up external recording equipment or use the Mobi app efficiently.
The easiest method to transfer Fetch recordings is to set up local network data sharing using a media player, such as VLC or KODI. Alternatives are to access the recordings via Fetch’s “Mobi” app or install external storing equipment.
Let’s review the possibilities in detail!
Is it Possible to Transfer Recordings From Fetch TV?
Viewing recordings made through your Fetch TV box is possible via multiple methods based on the equipment or pre-existing setup you have.
Remember that Fetch does not have an external file transfer system or protocol, so transferring files is not yet supported.
To copy or transfer some of the recordings made by the Fetch TV box, you must have a Wi-Fi router and a functional local network or external storage equipment.
It is also possible to use the Fetch Mobi app’s recordings storage as a folder with shared access.
Can All Transferred Content Be Viewed?
Once the recording is stored, it is converted into a format that is only viewable through your Fetch TV streaming box.
Unlike recordings made through subscription channels, only FTA recordings can be transferred and converted into a viewable format.
So, even if the recordings are transferred from the box to your computer, no player (visualiser) will allow you to view the subscription-based recording.

Tip: Try each of the methods for transferring Fetch content!
Method #1 Transfer the Recordings Locally
The more complex but much less costly method to transfer recordings made on your Fetch box is to access Fetch through a local computer and download the recordings.
For this purpose, you will require a media player such as VLC or KODI, a compatible browser and a computer. Let’s review the in-depth instructions for transferring Fetch recordings locally!
Step #1 Pair the Devices to the Same Network
“Local Downloading” suggests that both of your devices must be on the same Wi-Fi network to create a suitable environment for file transfer.
- To check Wi-Fi on a Fetch TV box, go to Menu → “Manage” → “Settings” → “Network” → “Wi-Fi” and check if one of the displayed networks has a “Connected” status.
- On Windows and Mac, tap the Wi-Fi icon on the toolbar and check if you’re connected to the same network and Wi-Fi thread as the Fetch TV box.
Note: To reconnect the Fetch box, highlight a new network and press “OK.”
Step #2 Set Up the Open-Source Player
Once you’ve achieved the requirements for local file transfer, the next step is to download and set up a free, open-source home theatre visualiser on your computer or laptop.
This software allows for accessing the internal database of the Fetch TV box and downloading the recordings.
Visualisers such as the VLC Media Player or the KODI Open-Source Visualisers are completely free for download and will work perfectly with your Fetch TV cable box.
Reminder: Remember the installation directory of the software’s files!
Step #3 Download the Recording’s Web Location
Once the open-source player is set up, the next step is to download the recording file using its web location directory.
The file’s web location may differ based on your media player.
Note: For exact download instructions for the KODI visualisers, check the “READ ME” text file.
Here’s how to access Fetch’s recordings via the VLC Media Player:
- Launch the VLC Media Player on the computer or laptop.
- Press on “Universal Plug n Play” under “Local Network.”
- Next, select the IP address starting with “STB” at the top.
- Double-press the “Recordings” folder within the directory.
- Choose a recordings folder throughout the FTA folder.
- Next, right-click a recording and press on “Information.”
- Copy the recording file’s web address under “Location:”
- Finally, paste it into your browser and start downloading!
Based on the recording’s quality and continuity, a single episode of your TV show or a full-length movie can have a size of up to 7-8 GBs.
Once the download is complete, press the folder icon next to the file in the browser’s “Downloads” page and launch the VLC recording file.
Note: All files must be viewed on your computer under your media player’s format.
Method #2 Use the Fetch “Mobi” App
On Fetch Mighty and Fetch Gen 2, you can now access and view all stored recordings through Fetch’s Mobi app available on your Android or iOS device.
With a few simple clicks, you will be able to view the recordings and schedule future movie or TV show recordings.
Let’s review the in-depth setup of Fetch’s Mobi app on your smartphone!
Step #1 Set Up the Mobi App
The first step is downloading and installing the Mobi app on your mobile device and signing into your user account to link with your Fetch box.
The platform is available for both Android and iOS devices in the Australian region, so you should be able to find it with a quick app search.
- To download Mobi on Android, open the Google Play Store and search “Mobi.”
- To download Mobi on iOS, open the App Store and search “Mobi” in the search.
Once the app is installed, you must sign in via your Fetch ID. Here’s how to find it:
- Go to the “Menu” tab on your Fetch TV box.
- Highlight the “Manage” section from above.
- Navigate to the “Settings” tab from the page.
- Next, access the “Mobile & Tablet” section.
- Select the “Show Fetch ID” within the tab.
Once you have the required Fetch ID, enter the digits within the Mobi app to gain access to your account.
After that, the app will automatically start syncing your Fetch TV box’s content.
Notice: Use the data of your Wi-Fi network for installing and setting up the Mobi app!
Step #2 Access the Recordings Directory
Once the app has finalised syncing with your Fetch box, you can access both scheduled and saved recordings by pressing “My Stuff” at the bottom-right of the screen.
To view a recording, press on the channel once and hit “Play” to start viewing the TV show or mobile.
Alert: Deleting a recording through the Mobi app will remove it from your Fetch box!
Step #3 View or “Cast” the Recordings
Once you have gained access to the recordings, you can distribute the files however you see fit.
You can download the files onto your mobile device, cast them to a bigger screen or upload them locally to your computer or laptop, as long as your mobile shares the same network.
Transferring files from your mobile has been made as easy as ever with in-built functions such as Local Networking or third-party applications that allow direct access.
Tip: The Mobi app supports casting to compatible Chromecast or Miracast devices!
Method #3 Use An External Recording Device
For Fetch TV copy recordings, you should consider setting up an external recording device with your Fetch TV box.
All you’re going to need is the DVR unit as well as the appropriate cables that match one of the sockets on the back of the Fetch TV box.
Remember that the DVR must use in-built storage and save all FTA recordings viewed on the Fetch TV box.
You can set up external DVR storage if no in-built directory is found. Use a DVR that does not occupy the antenna socket on the TV box.
Here’s how a DVR can be generally used with your Fetch TV box:
- Plug the DVR into the video and audio socket on the box.
- Turn on your DVR and set the DVR to “Recording Mode.”
- Activate the Fetch box and launch one of the FTA channels.
- Set up the DVR’s settings according to Fetch requirements.
If the DVR has successfully detected the Fetch box and recognised the FTA broadcast, you should find a TV show or movie recording on the DVR’s local storage.
Note: If you cannot locate the DVR’s recordings, inspect the box’s antenna connections.
Quick Recap:
There are multiple ways of transferring Fetch TV recordings. You can upload the files to your computer locally using the VLC media player.
Also, you can use the “Mobi” app for direct viewing or set up an external DVR recording device. Next, learn how to fix Fetch TV Recording issues.
