The fault translates into ongoing progress that shortly freezes to no avail, leaving the user stuck on the update screen, which is easy to resolve.

To fix when Fetch TV is stuck on downloading/installing updates, be patient and ensure that the progress is stuck, not just slow. To troubleshoot, check the internet connection, Fetch server status, and soft/hard reset the Fetch TV box.

Let’s dig deeper to unwrap more information!

Why Fetch TV Stuck on Software Update?

why fetch tv stuck on software update

Different factors can cause the software update to get stuck on the Fetch TV box.

One primary factor is when the device’s internet connection becomes unstable or lost during half the way through the updates. In other cases, the fault comes from a software-related problem.

Here is a complete list of all possibilities:

  • Software glitches or bugs.
  • Internet connection issue.
  • Insufficient storage space.
  • VPN or Proxy interference.
  • Network congestion/outage.
  • Hardware Fetch box issue.

This is what causes the Fetch TV box to get stuck in the middle of the update.

We’ve designed a guide that will address all the possibilities above in a matter of minutes, so let’s jump right into it.

How to Fix Fetch TV Software Update Stuck?

Now that you understand the underlying causes, it is time to start troubleshooting.

Note: The methods in the below section are meant to be applied in order, even if you’re familiar with some of them.

1. Wait for the Update to Finish

wait for the update to finish

It’s important to remember that Fetch TV box software updates can take some time since they often involve complex changes to the software.

The update process involves downloading the new firmware, which is solely based on your internet speed and the consistency of the network.

Troubleshooting during the process can lead to incomplete installations or potential errors.

So, wait at least 15 minutes while reading the rest of this guide to ensure the process is fully stuck.

Important: Try Not to Interrupt!

Additionally, updates often include security patches, bug fixes, and improvements that contribute to your device’s overall performance and security.

If interrupted, you may end up with a severe software-related problem, which may disallow further upgrades and prompt you to factory reset.

Tip: Read the guide onwards while waiting!

2. Power Reset the Fetch TV Box

power reset the fetch tv box

There are cases when the system can glitch or bug and stop updating the Fetch TV software.

In those cases, power resetting the TV box is an ideal fix, as this will resolve minor system issues.

This process is safe, won’t erase anything, and will just reset the operating system of your Fetch TV box, hopefully resolving the updating bug.

This will interrupt the process, but if you’ve waited long enough to confirm that the update is stuck, we don’t expect software corruption to occur.

To power reset your Fetch TV Box, follow the steps below:

  1. Turn off your Fetch TV box using the remote.
  2. Unplug the Power cable from the wall outlet.
  3. Then, wait for about 3–5 minutes for a cycle.
  4. Plug the power cable back into the wall outlet.
  5. Wait for about 3 minutes and turn on the box.

When the soft reset is over, restart the update process and wait for 15 minutes again.

3. Check Your Internet Connection

check your internet connection

If your Fetch TV is stuck on downloading updates, it indicates that your TV box may have issues with the internet or Wi-Fi network.

Your internet and Wi-Fi are two separate things, so you would need to justify whether you have internet access and if your Wi-Fi is accessible and working.

For example, if your internet goes down, drops or disconnects during the update, the progress will get stuck, so you must perform a few tests.

To find out if there is an issue with the network, take your smartphone and move near the Fetch TV to connect to the same Wi-Fi as your Fetch.

If there’s no internet on your smartphone too, here’s what you should do:

  • Turn OFF your router for 60 seconds.
  • Relocate the router closer to your box.
  • Disconnect other devices for a while.
  • Relocate electronics near your TV box.

Bonus Tip: Use a Wired Connection!

Your Fetch TV box does not only support Wi-Fi connection, you can also connect your router to the TV box directly via Ethernet.

This will bypass all the Wi-Fi limitations, such as interference, and guarantee your internet remains intact during the Fetch TV box software update process.

Note: To connect the Fetch TV box to the router directly, you’ll need a long enough Ethernet cable that plugs into the “LAN” port of your router.

4. Check for Ongoing Fetch Outage

check for ongoing fetch outage

If your Fetch TV software update is stuck, there may be an unplanned outage within the Fetch TV providers when your device updates its software.

If so, your TV box won’t be able to get the update from their services, at least temporarily, while the service maintenance is still ongoing.

So, it’s worth checking for outages as sometimes, network issues are beyond your control.

To check for outages, visit Fetch TV X’s profile or Facebook page for real-time updates on outages.

If there is any news about an unplanned outage, you should wait for providers to resolve the issue and restore the service.

Note: Outages are typically resolved on the same day as they occur!

5. Test the Broadband Internet Speed

test the broadband internet speed

If your Fetch TV box software update is still stuck, we suggest you check your internet speed near your Fetch box.

The Fetch TV requires 3 Mbps, so if your device gets less bandwidth, it may experience connectivity issues, slowing down the OS update and making it appear stuck.

Note: You can only check the internet speed when your Fetch TV is connected to Wi-Fi!

To check your network speed, do the following:

With System Menu:

  1. Go to the system “Menu.”
  2. Head to the Diagnostics.
  3. Enter the “Advanced” tab.
  4. Then, choose “Speed Test.”

Without System Menu:

Tip: You can also disconnect some of your devices from your Wi-Fi network to free up the bandwidth for the Fetch TV box.

6. Inspect the Box Connections

inspect the box connections

The Fetch TV box relies on a stable internet connection to download and install OS updates.

Any problem with the box cabling or ports (loose or broken) can make the internet connection unstable or slow, ultimately resulting in a stuck system update or an extremely long waiting time.

Here is a quick guide to inspect the Fetch TV box connections:

  1. First, unplug the Fetch TV and box from the outlet.
  2. Disconnect all the cables from the back of the box.
  3. Inspect the HDMI, Antenna, and Ethernet cables.
  4. Also, look into the internet port pins on the TV box.
  5. If everything is in order, firmly reconnect the cables.
Note: When you turn on the TV box later, it will automatically check your internet connection and reconnect, so you can re-attempt the update process.

7. Factory Reset Fetch TV Box (Partially)

factory reset fetch tv box (partially)

If the TV software update is still stuck, that could indicate a profound failure in the TV system. It might not be fixable through the above techniques.

Instead, you should factory reset the TV box (partially), meaning all settings will be reverted to default, but your recordings will remain.

Here are the steps to partially reset your Fetch TV box:

  1. Power off your Fetch TV box and wait.
  2. After 30 seconds, turn the box back on.
  3. Within two minutes of restarting the box:

On your remote:

  • Press Red → Green → Yellow → Blue.
  1. Crucial: Press the buttons in their order.
  2. Then, wait until the R or Paw light flashes

This will occur right after when the Fetch TV screen turns off and on.

Once the Fetch box turns on completely, you must enter the “Activation Code” in the welcome screen and complete the setup process.

When ready, you can restart the updating procedure and check if it will be stuck.

Important: After using a Fetch Voice Remote, you must re-pair your remote after a soft reset.

8. Factory Reset Fetch TV Box (Fully)

factory reset fetch tv box (fully)

If performing a partial reset of your Fetch TV box didn’t fix the stuck update issue, try performing a full reset, which will erase everything.

This is a more thorough reset, as this will permanently erase series recordings, other recordings, and downloads and, of course, revert all settings.

Here are the steps to fully reset the Fetch box:

  1. Power off your Fetch TV box and wait.
  2. After 30 seconds, turn the box back on
  3. Within two minutes of restarting the box:

On your remote:

  • Press Blue → Yellow → Green → Red.
  1. Remember to press the buttons in order.
  2. Lastly, wait for the R or Paw light to flash.
Note: If the issue persists, contact Fetch TV Support for further assistance!
