This Fetch Box Has Not Been Activated Message Explained
The “not activated” message has no secret meaning and typically doesn’t appear as a bug, meaning your box is not activated yet.
Here’s why your Fetch box is not activated:
There are many more surrounding factors, so let’s continue checking each in depth…
Fetch Box Not Activated – Activation for FTA, Optus & iiNet
The activation procedure might be entirely different based on how you would like to use the Fetch box.
If you wish to use the Fetch receiver’s standard FTA function with a digital antenna, you must complete the procedure in Fetch’s Activation Page.
Otherwise, you must include the third-party provider’s digital key to use Fetch with a broadband internet connection or use it parallel with an antenna.
The guide below covers everything!
Fetch TV Box FTA Set Up – Easy Set Up
If you’re not using the Fetch TV cable box with any provider, such as Optus or iiNet, and wish to acquire FTA channels, you can undergo a Fetch-powered activation.
The Fetch receiver’s base function is antenna compatibility and digital conversion of Free-to-Air content.
Fetch TV Box Activation – The 8-Step On-Screen Set-Up
The standard on-screen activation of the Fetch TV box consists of 8 steps, one of which will require iiNet’s digital activation key.
The on-screen set-up consists of the following steps:
- “1” – Introduction.
- “2” – Activation (Use third-party activation key)
- “3” – Fetch Box Name.
- “4” – Set Up Remote.
- “5” – Audio Settings.
- “6” – Parental PIN.
- “7” – Channel Scan.
- “8” – Diagnostics.
Note: If you’re not using the cable box with any provider, Fetch will provide instructions to initialise FTA during step “2” of the on-screen setup.

Optus Fetch Box Not Activated – How to Activate?
Apart from activating your Fetch box, you must use your provider’s activation code to register the receiver with your regular broadband.
If you’ve purchased a Fetch TV box from Optus, you must use an Optus code to activate the receiver and enjoy the channels you’ve signed up for.
The Optus-powered Fetch box does not use Free-to-Air, so a modem/ router will be included in the shipment of your cable box.
Upon installing the network unit, you’ll have consistent home Wi-Fi and digital TV on the connected box via Ethernet cable.
How to Set Up Fetch Optus Box’s Hardware?
Here’s how to set up the physical equipment of the Optus Fetch box:
- Plug the Optus Fetch box into the Optus modem or router.
- Connect the HDMI cable to an HDMI slot on your TV unit.
- Install the cable box’s power supply to an electrical outlet.
- Insert the 2 x AAA batteries into the Fetch remote control.
- Check the activation code sent via SMS or email address.
Tip: There are detailed hardware set-up instructions within the Optus user manual.
How to Complete Optus Final On-Screen Activation?
With Optus, entering the activation key for the cable boss is called the final on-screen set-up.
After you’ve wired the receiver correctly and provided the Fetch TV cable box with broadband and satellite service access, you must insert the Optus activation code.
Note: The final on-screen activation will start after the TV box is plugged in.
Here’s how to undergo Optus’s final on-screen setup:
- Press the “Power” button on your Fetch remote control.
- Wait until the Fetch TV box receiver has fully loaded up.
- Acquire the Optus key from an SMS or Email message.
- Wait until the digital key prompt appears on the TV box.
- Enter the Optus key and highlight “Confirm” to activate.
Remember that the digital key is case-sensitive, so you might accidentally fail the procedure using lowercase instead of uppercase. Use the remote’s buttons to regulate the accuracy.
Notice: If you cannot find the Optus activation code, visit Optus’s Activation Code Page.
Fetch Box Not Activated iiNet – Easy Activation Steps
Similarly to Optus, you must use iiNet’s digital key to allow Fetch to use the third-party broadband connection.
However, activation is only possible after you’ve correctly installed the equipment of the TV cable and connected all cables following iiNet’s manual guidelines.
Tip: Do not attempt to self-install if a technician has done the set-up!
What Equipment Does iiNet Fetch TV Box Require?
If you aren’t using the Fetch box primarily for FTA conversion purposes, the receiver will require the same equipment as Optus.
Ensure the cable box is connected to iiNet’s modem or router using an Ethernet cable, it is adequately secured with an electrical outlet and plugged into a TV.
How to Activate iiNet Fetch TV Box?
Follow these instructions to activate the iiNet-powered Fetch TV box:
- Complete the first step of the Fetch box’s setup.
- Acquire iiNet’s activation code from your SMS.
- Input the digital key during Fetch’s second step.
- Complete the set-up of the cable box until the end.
Same as with Optus, the digital key provided by iiNet is also case-sensitive, so make sure to type it identically on your TV cable box.
Warning: You can fail the activation procedure up to 3 times!
Can’t Activate Fetch TV Box?
If the activation of the Fetch TV box keeps failing repeatedly, you can conduct some standard troubleshooting before reaching out for specialised assistance.
Here are the most effective steps:
- Power Cycle the TV Box – Unplug the box’s power adapter for up to 30 seconds to achieve a power cycle of the hardware. In the meantime, inspect the power supply and connectors for visual defects.
- Reconnect Antenna (FTA) – If you fail to complete Fetch’s personalised set-up, the cable box might have failed to detect the antenna. Unplug the coax from the “AERIAL IN” port and wait 30 seconds for a service refresh.
- Compare Digital Key (Non-FTA) – If the third-party provider Fetch activation fails, you might have inserted the key improperly, so compare the key you’re entering with the one in your Email or SMS.
- Reconnect Broadband (Non-FTA) – The final reason why the non-FTA set-up of Fetch could be failing is because of a lousy broadband connection, so unplug and reconnect the box’s Ethernet cable.
That’s it. If your Fetch box is still not activated, contact Fetch directly to inspect your service and request adequate support—best of luck.
Quick Recap
If your Fetch box is not activated, you can set up FTA via antenna or input the third-party broadband provider’s digital key.
If you wish to use Fetch with Optus or iiNet, input the provider’s key in your SMS or Email at step “2” during the setup. Follow us for more complete guides!
