Why is PS VR2 Controller Not Charging? (Let’s Fix It Fast)

We understand how concerning the situation could be whenever your PS VR2 controller not charging, especially if you can’t get it to charge.
Don’t worry–this guide includes only the best working solutions!
Here’s everything that may prevent your PSVR 2 controller from charging:
A lot of different possibilities, yes, so let’s get started!
How to Know if the PSVR 2 Controller is Charging?
When your PSVR 2 controller is charging, whether it’s connected directly to the power source or set up on the charging station, the light should start pulsating.
When the controller is fully charged, the light will stop pulsating and turn off completely.
However, no light doesn’t necessarily mean that the controller is fully charged.
If you see no light, it may indicate that the controller is not receiving power.
How to Check PSVR 2 Controller Battery?

To check your controller battery percentage, on your PS5 press the PS button to access the Control Center, and from there go to Accessories.
In the accessories, you will see the battery bars (0 to 3). Your controller is not charging? No worries!
PS VR2 Controller Not Charging – 8 Quick & Easy Ways to Fix!
Note: Have you tried connecting and leaving your controllers plugged into the charger for 10–15 minutes?
1. Bypass the USB-C Magnetic Dongle
Well, if you’re using a USB-C magnetic dongle on your PlayStation 5 USB-C port to prevent wear due to frequent use, we recommend trying plugging the controller directly.

The problem could be coming from the dongle, so either remove it or check whether it’s securely plugged into the USB-C port on your PS5 console.
If your controller won’t charge, regardless of whether a USB-C magnetic dongle is involved in the setup, the problem is related to something else, so let’s keep reading!
Important: If you’re using a charging station, make sure to switch the places of the two magnetic dongles to check whether the problematic controller will start charging.
2. Charge Controller Directly (Outlet)
If you’re attempting to charge your PSVR 2 controller from the USB-C port on the front of the PS5 console, but it doesn’t work, try charging it directly, via power adapter.
The supplied charging cable is a double-sided USB-C cable, where one side plugs into the controller and the other, either into a USB-C port or USB-C adapter.

So, if you have a USB-C power adapter you can instantly connect the controller to the power source.
- If you don’t have a USB-C power brick, you can also use a USB-C to USB-A cable to charge the controller.
The thing is, try a direct connection to the outlet. If it doesn’t work, continue reading…
3. Switch to a Different Power Source
If you can’t change your PSVR 2 controllers directly from a power outlet via USB-C or USB-A adapter, well the problem could be in the power source.

That’s why the next best step to attempt is connecting the PSVR controller to a different, proven-to-work wall outlet in your home to tighten the circle of possibilities.
Important: No Outlet Plugs & Connectors!
If you’re using any third-party outlet plugs or connectors including electrical extenders, dividers, or smart plugs, this may be your culprit.
We strongly advise connecting the USB power brick directly to the wall outlet, bypassing any outlet connectors.
Note: In case of a recent power outage, the voltage in your house outlets may still be weak or fluctuating, so wait for half an hour and try charging your controllers again.
4. Reset the Problematic Controller
Sometimes the reason why your PSVR 2 controller is not charging is due to a bug with the system, so resetting the controller may resolve the problem.
To reset the unit, you must reach within the pinhole on the back of the PSVR controller using a pointy tool such as a pin or a toothpick.

To trigger the reset, hold the reset button for about 10 seconds continuously.
You will know when the reset has started if your PSVR 2 controller disconnects from the PS5 and from the headset.
Then reconnect the controller by pressing the PS button and try connecting it to the charger.
5. Allow Charging in PS5 Rest Mode
In case your PSVR 2 controller is not charging from the USB-C port on your PlayStation 5, you need to ensure that the console is turned on and working.
By default, the PS5 console disables the power supply to the USB ports while in “Rest Mode”, but there is an option that you can tweak and allow the charging.

So, if your controllers won’t charge while the PS5 is in “Rest Mode”, here’s what to do:
- On your PlayStation 5, head to “System Settings”.
- From the settings, select the “Power Saving” tab.
- Finally, enable the “Supply Power to USB Ports“.
That’s it. Now your PSVR 2 controllers should be charging even while your PS5 console is in Rest Mode.
However, if your PSVR controllers are not charging, no matter what you try, continue reading further…
6. Inspect & Clean the Charging Ports
Another potential reason why only one of your PSVR 2 controllers is not charging is that the charging port pins are completely blocked or clogged.
Anything like hair and dust might have gone inside, covering the pins entirely, which prevents the content from the cable connector to the contact pins within the port.

The best thing to do here is to use a toothpick to reach within the port and try to remove anything from within while minding the force you’re applying.
If you manage to remove a big cluster of hair/dust, that’s likely preventing your controller from charging!
7. Test Different USB Charging Cable
If your PSVR2 controller won’t charge from the power source or from the PS5 USB-C port, the problem is most likely in the cable.
So, if you have a replacement USB-C to USB-C or USB-C to USB-A cable, you can test via multiple charging configurations to determine where this problem comes from.
If your PSVR 2 controller LED won’t start pulsating (charging) no matter what you’re attempting, this may mean bad news.

Sadly, if that’s the case, there aren’t many possibilities left, except a defective charging port or an entirely dead controller battery.
Here’s what to check to narrow down the problem further:
- If only one controller is not charging, the problem could be in the charging port.
- If both controllers are not charging, the problem is with the charging equipment.
In case the charging port doesn’t appear to be damaged or clogged with dust/debris, the controller battery may very well be dead/defective.
Quick Tip: Try switching the sides of the USB-C cable to check whether this would work!
8. Drain the Controller’s Battery to 0%
Some users claim that PSVR 2 controllers won’t start charging if your PlayStation 5 says that the battery is at 3 bars.
The problem here is that the battery bars are kinda skewed toward being full, meaning that over 41% battery is considered 3 bars.

Well, if this is true, by following this logic, if your controller is over 40% battery, it won’t start charging.
The solution that has been discovered by the community is to drain the battery to 0%.
Then leave the controller to charge for an additional hour after the bars become 3, hopefully charging the battery to the full 100%.
- So, use the controllers until the battery reaches 0%, or at least 39%, then connect them to the charger and check whether this would work.
If yes, then the PSVR 2 controllers are working fine, and this is just a bug.
Note: Very low battery on your controllers can cause tracking issues!
Why is My PS VR2 Controller Not Charging on Station? – Quick Fix!
If your PSVR 2 controller/s not charging from the station, there are a few things you should try:
- Check your Power Source: It’s important to verify that the power adapter where your charging station is connected works and delivers voltage.
- Verify The Proper Contact: Verify that the controllers are properly seated and touching the magnetic contacts, otherwise they won’t charge.
- Check the USB Connection: The USB connection between the charging station and the adapter is fundamental, so try via replacement USB cable.
- Check the Magnetic Dongles: Sometimes the magnetic dongles are not correctly inserted into the USB-C ports on the PSVR 2 controllers.
Note: If your PSVR 2 controllers can charge from a power source or the USB-C port on your PS5, but cannot charge from the station, consider replacing the charging station.
