How to Fix PS VR2 Red Light Issue? (Quick Fix!)

Wondering what does the PS VR2 red light mean? In most cases, the red light means no good!
Sadly, for many users, the red light problem on PlayStation VR2 appears to be a critical fault with the device’s software or hardware.
It’s unclear what the red light means, so if your PSVR 2 is not turning on, or you’re only seeing a gray passthrough screen, this may indicate sensor failure or a headset connection error.
Luckily, a lot of people managed to fix this problem though, so in this quick guide, we’ll show you everything you can do before sending your PSVR 2 for replacement.
How to Fix the PS VR2 Red Light Issue? – 6 Simple Solutions!
Note: Have you tried waiting 5–10 minutes to see whether the red light will disappear?
1. Discharge the PlayStation VR 2

To begin the troubleshooting of the red light on the PSVR 2, let’s start with an easy power cycle, which will discharge the VR headset and reboot the operating system.
Here’s exactly what you need to do:
- First, unplug your PSVR 2 from the PlayStation 5.
- Wait 30 seconds with your headset disconnected.
- Hold the PSVR 2 Power button for 30–40 seconds.
- Reconnect the PSVR 2 to your PlayStation console.
That’s it. If you’ve done the power cycle process correctly, check whether the red light is still there and if yes, continue reading…
2. Tighten the PSVR 2 Connector

According to users with the same exact red light problem, the issue is often related to a loose connector.
The connector is located on the top, next to the dial, and has a triangle, circle, X, and square for easier recognition. The solution is to simply push the connector towards the front.
When you’re ready, hold the Power button for 30 seconds and check whether the red light is on!
Note: While at it, we recommend checking the power cable and whether there is any physical damage such as cuts, rips, etc…
3. Inspect the Console’s Connection

If your PlayStation VR 2 turns on for a few seconds and then the red light appears, or the device is not turning on at all, it’s likely that the power connection is not secure.
So, you need to inspect the front SuperSpeed USB-C port on the PlayStation 5.
There are a few things you can do to ensure the connection is intact:
- Unplug and reconnect the USB-C connector firmly.
- Inspect the SuperSpeed PS5 port for obstructions.
- Check the connector for dust, debris, or moisture.
- Trace the wire body to identify cuts, rips, or damage.
- Clean your PS5 SuperSpeed port using a toothpick.
Important: If you’re attempting to connect your PSVR 2 to the PS5 USB-A port via USB-C to USB-A adapter, note that this is not going to work due to power insufficiency.
4. Restart PS5 and Change the Outlet

In some rare cases, the PSVR 2 blinking red light comes due to power insufficiency from the PlayStation 5.
This typically happens when the console’s SuperSpeed USB-C port does not supply enough power for the PlayStation VR to function properly.
To resolve this, you may need to reboot your PlayStation 5 and possibly, connect the console to a different and proven-to-work power outlet.
In the meantime, disconnect and reconnect the power cable of your PSVR 2 from the USB-C SuperSpeed port on the PS5 and hopefully, this will resolve the problem.
If not, keep reading.
Note: Avoid connecting your PlayStation 5 to power dividers, electrical strips, or smart plugs!
5. Test PSVR 2 Adapter Functionality (PC)
If you’re using a PlayStation VR2 PC adapter to connect the VR headset to your PC, the red light issue could be due to the adapter or your PC’s USB port.

There are a couple of quick and easy things to try though!
- Unplug and plug the USB-C into the PC adapter.
- Unplug and plug the USB-A side of the adapter.
- Use a different USB port on your PC (back side).
- Use a blue PC port USB 3.0 instead of USB 2.0.
If nothing helps and your PSVR 2 is still blinking in the red light, perhaps the adapter you’re using is not original, bad quality, or defective.
Hence, the best thing you could do is test your PSVR 2 by connecting it to an actual PlayStation 5.
Note: If you’re connecting your PSVR 2 to a PS5 and still have the red light, skip this method!
6. Verify the PSVR 2 is Not Overheating

The PS VR2 red light is very rare and hard to identify.
So, if you’ve tried everything but the red light remains blinking, it’s possible that the device is overheating.
When the thermal margin (heat limit) is exceeded, the device shuts down to prevent hardware damage, and perhaps this is exactly what’s happening with your VR headset.
To prevent the device from overheating, you only need to leave the PSVR 2 to cool down for about 5 minutes.
In addition, you may want to check whether the vent opening on the top of the VR headset is covered or clogged by anything.
Quick Tip: If your PSVR 2 is constantly overheating, consider taking your device for servicing or professional cleanup.
