Crosley Record Player Won’t Turn On – Fixed in Easy Steps!

Note: Have you tried resetting the Crosley record player by unplugging it for 10–15 minutes?

1. Check the Power Adapter & Socket

check the power adapter & socket

The primary reason why your Crosley record player is not turning on could be due to the power adapter/cable or the electrical socket.

So, there are three initial steps that you should undertake so you can either discover the problem or exclude the possibility of interrupted electrical income.

1.1 Inspect the Power Adapter

The first step is to inspect the power adapter, whether it plugs correctly into the outlet, and if the prongs are missing, bent, or broken.

We also recommend checking whether the connector on the Crosley player’s side is plugging in and if the power input port is obstructed or damaged.

1.2 Check & Replace the Outlet

check & replace the outlet

The second step is to ensure that the power outlet is working, by plugging in a different device, preferably a low-voltage appliance.

1.3 Connect Turntable Directly

The final step in the power inspection is to ensure that you’re plugging the Crosley record player directly into the outlet.

  • We strongly recommend avoiding AC extenders, dividers, or smart plugs.

Note: In case of a circuit-related fuse problem, you may need to plug the Crosley record player into a different room in your home.

2. Rotate the Volume Knob to the Right

Most Crosley record players come with the on/off switch, which is the Volume knob.

When you turn the volume knob to the right, you should hear a *click*, which confirms that the player is on.

So, if your Crosley record player is not turning on, you need to verify that the Volume knob is not spun to the left.

Try this first, and if your record player is not turning on, continue reading ahead.

Note: There is also a small red bulb above the Pitch control knob, which can show you whether the record player is receiving power or not.

3. Set Crosley Player to PHONO Mode

If your Crosley record player not turning on or not spinning, the device could be receiving power just fine, but the platter won’t spin if you’re not using PHONO mode.

Your Crosley record player comes with 2 possible modes–Bluetooth and PHONO, each designed with a different purpose.

set crosley player to phono mode
  • Bluetooth – If the Bluetooth mode is on, your Crosley record player will be discoverable by other Bluetooth devices and ready for wireless input.
  • PHONO – When PHONO mode is enabled, the Crosley record player will spin the platter so you can listen to vinyl records.

The switch for changing between Bluetooth and PHONO mode is found on the top right of your record player.

Select PHONO mode, otherwise, it would seem like the device is not turning on.

4. Deactivate Crosley Auto Stop Switch

Crosley record players come with great functionality, which can automatically stop the platter from spinning once the record is over.

The entire mechanism works by tracking the position of the tonearm, which might deceive users into believing that the turntable has stopped working.

So, we strongly recommend deactivating the Auto-Stop switch, which will continuously spin the platter regardless of whether the tonearm is hovering over it.

Tip: You can find the Auto-Stop switch on the right side, with labels ON/OFF, so push the switch upwards which will deactivate the feature.

5. Reinstall Your Record Player’s Belt

If your Crosley record player is not working and spinning the platter, the problem could be due to a loose belt.

The belt is the piece that wraps around the platter and the motor’s pulley, hence it’s the primary factor responsible for the platter’s spinning.

reinstall your record player’s belt

When it’s loose, the platter will not spin, so here’s how to reinstall it:

  1. Unplug your Crosley record player from the power.
  2. Locate the small ring in the center of your spindle.
  3. This small ring is holding the platter to the spindle.
  4. Remove by using your fingernail or screwdriver.
  5. Gently lift the platter upwards and then put it aside.
  6. At this point, the belt will come loose regardless.
  7. Carefully inspect the motor pulley and the spindle.
  8. Next, flip the platter upside down on a flat surface.
  9. Stretch the belt and wrap it around the inner ring.
  10. Hold the platter the correct way up over the spindle.
  11. Pinch the belt on the right side, where the pulley is.
  12. Attach the belt to the motor’s pulley and release it.
  13. Then, gently slide down the platter onto the spindle.
  14. Lastly, attach the small ring holding the platter tight.

That’s it. Now reconnect your Crosley record player to the power and test whether the device will turn on the start spinning.

If not, perhaps there is a different, hardware-related player issue.

6. Inspect the Motor and Internal Wiring

inspect the motor and internal wiring

If your Crosley record player won’t turn on, after everything you’ve tried, and you don’t see any indication of life, maybe there is a hardware-related fault.

If your warranty is over, and you feel comfortable disassembling the machine, you can inspect the motor and the internal wiring.

You can open up the Crosley record player by undoing the four screws on the four corners of the record player while facing up. Then you can lift the entire board and check whether all the wires are securely connected.

The main harness to inspect is the group of white cables connecting the main board with the motor.

We recommend tightly pushing all the cable connectors to their respective terminals.

Note: If you notice burnt spots, cut cables, or other visual defects, you either need replacement components or specialized turntable servicing.
