Meta Quest 3 Not Connecting to WiFi – 5 Instant Solutions!

Note: Have you tried restarting your Meta Quest 3 and then trying to connect to the Wi-Fi?

1. Verify your Wi-Fi Connection

verify your wi-fi connection

If your Meta Quest 3 is not connecting to the Wi-Fi, the first step is to ensure that your wireless network is accessible and your broadband is online.

We’ve prepared 3 quick steps to go over everything:

1.1 Test Wi-Fi Connection

To begin with, take your smartphone, disable the 4G/5G (Mobile Data), and try to connect to the same Wi-Fi you’re attempting to pair your VR headset with.

If you can access online websites or stream videos, this justifies that your Wi-Fi is working and that the issues come from elsewhere.

Note: Using your smartphone, try to connect to the same Wi-Fi from the same location as your Meta Quest 3 headset.

1.2 Restart the Wi-Fi Router

restart the wi-fi router

If you’re unable to access the Wi-Fi and surf online using your smartphone, it’s evident that the problem comes from the network.

To quickly regain access, power cycle your wireless router by unplugging it from the power for 60 seconds.

1.3 Test the Internet Speed

If you have concerns that your internet may not be intact, feel free to test your broadband/Wi-Fi speed and determine any potential problems.

Quick Tip: Try to connect your Meta Quest 3 to the Wi-Fi by closing the distance proximity, and if needed to justify, stay right next to your Wi-Fi router.

2. Optimize the Wi-Fi Connection

optimize the wi-fi connection

If you’ve identified that your Wi-Fi is accessible, but somehow slow, fluctuating, or problematic, you may need to perform some optimizations.

Here’s what you can do to boost and uplift your Wi-Fi connection:

  • Straighten up your wireless router’s antennas.
  • Move the router to a higher or elevated position.
  • Dislocate other wireless devices near the router.
  • Disconnect and reconnect your Ethernet/optical.
  • Stop downloading/uploading over your network.

When ready, retry to connect your Meta Quest 3 to the Wi-Fi using both methods and if they fail, continue troubleshooting with the next step.

3. Change the Wi-Fi Frequency

change the wi-fi frequency

The Meta Quest 3 is dual-band, which means that the headset can be connected to both 2.4 GHz and 5 GHz Wi-Fi network frequencies.

However, what’s important to note here is that the 5 GHz Wi-Fi, even if faster, might not be the best option, since it hardly travels through walls/floors.

Hence, if your router is dual-band, and you have more than one Wi-Fi, we recommend connecting your Quest 3 to the 2.4 GHz Wi-Fi.

How to Change the Wi-Fi Network on Quest 3?

  1. Open the Meta Horizon application.
  2. Tap on the hamburger menu on top.
  3. From “Devices”, select the headset.
  4. Choose Headset settings → Wi-Fi.
  5. Press the 2.4 GHz Wi-Fi of the router.
  6. Finally, tap on the “Connect to Wi-Fi”.

Alternatively, you can use the Universal Menu → Quick Settings from the VR headset itself to change the Wi-Fi network.

Info: In most cases, the SSID (name) of your Wi-Fi either includes “2.4” or “5” for orientation.

4. Reinstall the Meta Horizon App

reinstall the meta horizon app

Note: Skip this step if your headset is unable to connect to Wi-Fi even without using the app!

If your Quest 3 won’t connect to WiFi through the Meta Horizon app, perhaps the problem is in the application or its firmware.

Well, an all-in-one solution is to straightforwardly reinstall the app from Google Play for Androids or the App Store for iPhones.

  • To uninstall apps on Android, open the Google Play Store, tap your profile icon, select Manage Apps & devices, and locate the Meta Horizon app to Uninstall.
  • To reinstall apps on iPhone, tap and hold the Meta Horizon app from the main screen and choose “Delete App” → “Delete”.

When the Meta Horizon app is gone, download the latest version of the app from the respective app store, which guarantees an error-free experience.

Reminder: Follow the steps at the start of the guide to properly connect Meta Quest 3 to Wi-Fi.

5. Factory Reset the Meta Quest 3

If nothing works and your Meta Quest 3 is not connecting to Wi-Fi, the next step is to perform a factory reset.

This method will reinstall the headset’s operating system, reverting all settings to default, so if you want to back up any settings or sensitive data, we recommend doing it now.

Factory Reset Meta Quest via App:

  1. Enter the Meta Horizon app on your smartphone.
  2. Press on the hamburger menu from the app feed.
  3. Press “Devices” and select the Quest 3 headset.
  4. Go to “Headset settings” → “Advanced Settings
  5. Tap “Factory Reset” and then confirm via “Reset”.

Factory Reset Meta Quest Remotely:

  1. On any computer or smartphone follow this link.
  2. Sign in to your account (same as on Meta Quest 3).
  3. Select the Meta Quest 3 headset you want to reset.
  4. Click “DELETE DEVICE DATA” or “Factory Reset”.
  5. Carry out the verification process before the reset.

When the factory reset is over the Meta Quest 3 should disappear from the list.

You can now carry out the initialization process, which involves connecting the Quest headset to the Wi-Fi.

Note: If you don’t see any of the options mentioned in step #4, then your Meta Quest headset does not support remote factory reset.

Meta Quest 3 Not Connecting to WiFi – Try Via Hotspot!

If you’ve tried everything but your Meta Quest 3 is not connecting to the Wi-Fi, it’s likely an issue with your router settings.

Hence, a quick way to discover the culprit is via sharing a hotspot from your smartphone, whether it’s Android or iOS.

Then, you must pair your Meta Quest 3 with the hotspot the same way as you do with the Wi-Fi.

try via hotspot
  • Android – Settings → “Network and Internet” → “Hotspot and tethering” → Wi-Fi hotspot
  • iOS – Go to Settings → “Personal Hotspot” → “Allow Others to Join”

If your Meta Quest 3 won’t connect to a hotspot either, then the problem may be with the LAN of your headset.

This means hardware-related problems, that you may not be able to fix at home.

What’s Next?

If your Meta Quest 3 connects to the hotspot but not to your router’s Wi-Fi, ensure there are no router settings/firewall/VPN or Proxy that may be blocking external connections.

If your Quest 3 is not connecting to the hotspot either, then you may seek professional assistance or a warranty.
