We are happy to inform you that the constant “reboots” of your Sony Bravia TV may not be an indication of a fatal problem, but rather a power-related issue.

1. Soft Reset your Sony Bravia TV

Perhaps, the Sony Bravia TV is rebooting due to a temporal fluctuation with the power supply, often due to a loose adapter connection or a defective electrical outlet

So, before making any adjustments to your setup, we recommend unplugging the TV to conduct a “discharge”, refreshing the hardware components.

Unplug the Sony Bravia TV’s power cable for a minimum of ~30 seconds, while the power is drained entirely.

Then reconnect the adapter securely on both ends and check for the problem.

2. Temporarily Stop Bravia™ Sync

The Bravia™ Sync is often referred to as the HDMI-CEC feature of the Sony Bravia models.

It allows third-party devices, such as sound systems or soundbars, to power on or off along with the TV, only by using the Bravia remote control.

The HDMI-CEC feature of your Sony Bravia TV might cause the TV to turn off along with your sound system, console, or other third-party device.

So, this is where the issue may come from!

Here’s how to disable the Bravia™ Sync in easy steps:

  1. Navigate to the TV settings and enter “Bravia Sync settings.”
  2. Now, scroll down and highlight the “Auto TV on” option below.
  3. Highlight the“Auto devices off” function and disable it as well.
  4. Exit the system settings and check if the TV is still powering off.

Note: If the TV still powers off by itself, ZontSound recommends temporarily disconnecting all external devices connected to the TV over HDMI, coaxial, or RCA cables.

3. Test the TV in Another Wall Outlet

Well, not that long ago, I also had the same problem, asking why my Sony Bravia TV keeps turning off, despite many solutions I had tried.

So, what turned out to be the culprit in my case was the electrical outlet that I was using.

If you have just recently set up your Sony Bravia TV and have not used its outlet with another device for a while now, it could be the outlet that is causing the fluctuations.

To determine, relocate the Sony Bravia TV free of its other equipment, and install it in another power source.

Then, try to determine whether the TV powers on properly and wait for at least 5 minutes to check for potential rebooting or powering off.

⚠️Important: Another important thing to do is to connect your Sony Bravia TV directly to the outlet without any third-party devices.

4. Deactivate Sony Bravia Sleep Timer

If you have told your Sony Bravia TV to turn off automatically through the “Sleep Timer” function in the settings, your TV will automatically power off each time the counter strikes zero.

Even if you have turned on the TV a couple of minutes ago, the sleep timer could cause it to power off.

Here’s how to navigate the TV settings and disable the Sleep Timer:

  1. Press the “HOME” button on the Sony Bravia remote control.
  2. Based on the model, go to “Clock/Timers” or “System Settings”.
  3. Now, check the current timer and highlight the “Off” options below.
  4. Exit the settings and verify if the Sony Bravia TV still powers off.

Tip: If you still require the Sleep Timer, you can readjust the timer or set another value for the counter. This way, the TV will only power off when you want it to, without exception.

5. Move the Remote Control Out of Sight

Users have reported that under some rare conditions, the remote sends “false” signals to the TV if it is in sight, which causes the device to power off.

So, if there are no patterns to the rebooting of the Sony Bravia TV, then it could be the remote control that is causing the persistent restarts.

  • Try positioning the remote out of sight if it uses IR, or in another room, if it uses RF.

Wait patiently for several minutes to determine if the Sony Bravia TV will still turn off randomly.

Additionally, verify there are no other remotes that are in sight of the TV’s “eye” (IR receiver).

Pro Tip: Another way to achieve the same thing is to completely eject the remote batteries!

6. Check for Sony Bravia TV Overheating

When the Sony Bravia TV turns off by itself after a few seconds, it sounds like the issue can be temperature-related.

If the Sony Bravia TV has recently overheated, and you are attempting to turn it on right away, it has engaged the CPU throttling mechanisms, causing it to turn off again.

In short, this is the protection of your TV. When the TV hardware components get too hot, the TV powers off by itself to protect the infrastructure from the heat.

You can identify if the TV is overheating by the following symptoms:

  • The TV side, rear, or display panels feel hot to the touch.
  • The power supply of the TV is producing a buzzing noise.
  • The performance is severely reduced while your TV is on.

To prevent overheating, you can follow either of these steps:

  • Verify your TV vents are free of any dust/debris accumulation.
  • Improve the TV ventilation by cooling down your environment.
  • Check if heat conductors or direct sunlight are flashing the TV.

If you have verified that the Sony Bravia TV has overheated, one of the most important things you must follow is to disconnect the power cord for at least 30 minutes.

This is the timeframe your Sony TV’s internal components require to fully cool down after reaching the thermal limit.

7. Update TV to the Latest Firmware Version

If the powering off does seem to occur less frequently than every 30 or so minutes, then it could be firmware-related.

Particular OS versions of the Bravia TV models are proven to be unstable or “corrupted”, which could also impact the functionality of the TV and uptime.

update tv to latest firmware version

Follow these simple steps to verify your Bravia TV is up-to-date:

  1. Press the HOME button on the remote and go to “[Settings]”.
  2. Head to the “[Product Support]” tab from the pages below.
  3. Enter “[Software Update]” in the menu to initiate the update.
  4. Confirm the update once again by pressing the “OKbutton.
  5. Wait until your Bravia TV uploads the latest firmware version.

If there is no newer firmware version available for your TV in the “[Software Update]” menu, then your TV is running on the most current one.

If there is a newer update, however, verify your TV maintains a stable Wi-Fi connection and reboot it before starting the process, to temporarily avoid potential power-offs.

8. Connect the TV via a Different Power Cord

If nothing else has helped and your Sony Bravia TV keeps turning off regardless, then the issue could be related to the power cord functionality.

If so, we recommend testing with a universal replacement cable, as they are commonly to come across.

connect tv via a different power cord

Most Sony Bravia TV models use a standard 19.5V barrel connector, which most household electrical appliances also use.

Check if you can borrow a similar connector from another device in your home and test it on the Sony Bravia TV to determine if powering off would continue.

Note: If the TV still loses power, then it is best to get in touch with Sony customer support!
