Roku soundbar won’t connect to WiFi and you don’t know why? If so, then continue reading!

If your Roku smart soundbar or streambar can’t connect to the Wi-Fi, this comprehensive guide will help you identify and solve the problem.

The wireless connections are prone to a variety of possible issues, so we’re going to walk you through a few thoughtful steps and tested solutions.

Here’s what you should do when the Roku soundbar is not connecting to Wi-Fi:

  • Pair with the Wi-Fi network correctly.
  • Soft-reset or power cycle your Roku.
  • Reboot your wireless network router.
  • Switch to a 2.4 GHz Wi-Fi frequency.
  • Shorten the Wi-Fi network’s distance.
  • Reset your Roku soundbar to default.
  • Switch to a wired, Ethernet connection.

Let’s unwrap each of these methods in more detail!

Roku Soundbar Won’t Connect to WiFi – (7 Working Methods)

Note: Are you sure that your Wi-Fi network is accessible?

1. Try Reconnecting to the Wi-Fi

try reconnecting to the wi-fi

If your Roku soundbar or streambar got disconnected from the Wi-Fi, the first step is to check if you can quickly reconnect the device.

Sometimes the wireless network of your router might just restart due to router overheating, hence the Wi-Fi could be back up now ready to be paired with.

To connect the Roku smart soundbar or streambar to the Wi-Fi, follow these steps:

  1. Using your Roku remote, go to the “Settings.”
  2. In there, locate and enter the “Network” pane.
  3. Select the “Set up connection” or “Wireless.”
  4. The Roku will now scan for available networks.
  5. When you see your Wi-Fi, select it to continue.
  6. Insert the password using your remote control.

Your Roku device should now connect to the Wi-Fi. If not, continue troubleshooting ahead…

2. Soft-Reset or Hard-Reset Roku

Sometimes, the problem with the Wi-Fi connection on the Roku soundbar or streambar is with the operating system.

Hence, you can refresh any bugging services by performing a soft reset or a hard reset, also known as a “power circulation”.

The steps below are completely safe, they will not erase any of your Roku device settings and will only restart the Roku system.

2.1 How to Soft-Reset Roku Soundbar?

  1. Using your remote, go to the “Settings.”
  2. Locate and enter the “System” section.
  3. Info: For Roku TV, go to the “Power” tab.
  4. Finally, select “System restart” to reboot.

2.2 How to Hard-Reset Roku Soundbar?

  1. Verify that the Roku device is working.
  2. Using the remote power off your Roku.
  3. Unplug the power adapter from the wall.
  4. Wait for at least 60 seconds for a cycle.
  5. Connect the adapter back to the outlet.

If your Roku soundbar or streambar has been successfully connected to the Wi-Fi, the network will be remembered, and your Roku will automatically reconnect.

Quick Tip: If your Roku doesn’t automatically reconnect to the Wi-Fi, “Set up connection” again.

3. Power Cycle your Wi-Fi Router

If your Roku soundbar or Roku streambar won’t connect to WiFi, the problem is likely with your network router or wireless modem.

To test this theory out really quickly, take your smartphone, try to connect to the Wi-Fi and if you can’t, then surely the problem is not with your Roku device.

power cycle your wi-fi router

So, if you can’t access the Wi-Fi from other devices as well, try the following:

  • Power cycle your router for 60 seconds.
  • Reconnect the optical broadband cable.
  • Straighten up the Wi-Fi router antennas.

Important: It’s important to verify that your router’s Wi-Fi is accessible from a secondary device such as your phone, otherwise it’s pointless to troubleshoot your Roku.

4. Switch to a 2.4 GHz Wi-Fi Band

If your network router is dual-band (has two separate Wi-Fi networks) one of them works on a 2.4 GHz frequency and the other on 5 GHz.

The main difference is in the speed, but the slower one, 2.4 GHz can reach further, doesn’t get easily interfered with, and is much more reliable.

switch to 2.4 ghz wi-fi band

The Roku smart soundbar or streambar supports both, so if you were using the 5 GHz wireless frequency by now, we recommend switching to the 2.4 GHz Wi-Fi.

How to Switch from 5 GHz to 2.4 GHz Wi-Fi?

If your Wi-Fi router is dual-band, you will have 2 separate networks. Typically, the frequency is included in the name (SSID) of the Wi-Fi.

If not, then simply disconnect Roku from the current Wi-Fi and connect it to the other wireless network in your home by going to “Set up connection”.

Note: If you can’t connect your Roku, try sharing a mobile hotspot from your smartphone and test whether your Roku device will be able to connect.

5. Shorten the Wireless Proximity

Sometimes when the Roku soundbar or streambar can’t connect to the Wi-Fi, the problem is in the distance between the Roku device and your wireless router.

shorten the wireless proximity

So, one quick method to justify whether this is the culprit is to either relocate your Wi-Fi router or move the Roku device closer.

  • The purpose is to shorten the proximity between the Wi-Fi source and your Roku device and have a maximum of 15 feet distance.

When the distance between both devices is shortened, retry to connect your Roku soundbar or streambar to the Wi-Fi to check whether this works.

Note: If your Roku connects to Wi-Fi while closer to the source, we recommend finding a new, elevated spot for your network router.

Important: Eliminate Wireless Interference!

Another possibility that can prevent your Roku soundbar or streambar from connecting to the Wi-Fi is wireless interference.

The wireless connection is prone to interference, but there are a few ways to eliminate it, at least in the room where your Roku is set.

You should dislocate or turn off the following devices:

  • Microwave ovens and wireless phones.
  • Devices transmitting Radio Frequency.
  • Bluetooth emitters and baby monitors.
  • Wireless cameras or game controllers.
  • Metal objects, mirrors, or water bodies.

Quick Tip: Verify that your Roku soundbar or streambar is not covered or obstructed by a metal object or reflective surface.

6. Factory Reset your Roku Device

If you can’t resolve the Wi-Fi connection problem and your Roku soundbar just won’t connect, it’s time for the big gun method.

In this step, we’re going to perform a factory reset, which will revert ALL settings on your Roku device to default, and hopefully resolve the connection issue.

factory reset your roku device

Here’s how to factory reset the Roku soundbar or streambar in easy steps:

  1. Press the Home button on the Roku remote.
  2. Head to the “Settings” and enter “System.”
  3. Then, select “Advanced System Settings.”
  4. Finally, choose the “Factory Reset” option.

This will start the factory restoration process, which may take roughly 5 minutes, so when you see the Roku logo, the procedure is done.

Then you’ll be prompted to complete the initialization, which involves selecting a language and connecting your Roku device to the wireless network.

Note: If your Roku still can’t connect to the Wi-Fi, it’s likely a problem with the HW LAN card.

7. Switch to Wired (Ethernet) Link

switch to wired (ethernet) link

Well, if you’ve tried everything but can’t connect your Roku soundbar or streambar to the Wi-Fi, the last option you’ve got is to switch to a wired connection.

  • However, you will notice that there is no Ethernet port on the back of the Roku soundbar, so you need a USB to Ethernet adapter.

You can purchase one for cheap, and then connect it to the USB port on the back of your Roku device, allowing you to connect an Ethernet cable.

Then from the settings of your Roku, select “Set up connection” → “Wired” and you should be ready to stream your favorite connection over a wired connection.

Note: You will also need an extra Ethernet cable to connect your wireless router to the Roku device by using one of the “LAN” ports.
