Skullcandy Earbuds Stopped Working – Quick Solutions

Here’s how to fix the issue with a few simple steps:

1. Turn Off/On the Earbuds

turn off/on the earbuds

The first and easiest solution to the problem with your Skullcandy buds is to turn them OFF and ON the earbuds, which is a quick way to diagnose issues.

The Skullcandy earbuds are equipped with a “Control” button on the top of each bud, that when pressed powers on or off the device.

  • To turn OFF your Skullcandy earbuds hold the control buttons for 6 seconds.
  • To turn ON your Skullcandy earbuds hold the control buttons for 4 seconds.

An alternative way to turn off your Skullcandy earbuds is to put them in their capsule and close the lid, ultimately shutting them down.

How to Know if Earbuds are ON?

The only indication is a blue light that will flash on each earbud open, turning it on.

So, you can do a separation test after turning them both off.

Thus, hold the “Control” button on one earbud, wait for the blue light, and then hold the control button on the other bud to diagnose problems.

Note: The earbud that flashes no blue light is the one that doesn’t work!

2. Recharge your Earbuds

One of the most frequent reasons why Skullcandy earbuds stopped working and not turning on is a low battery charge.

The Skullcandy earbuds get their battery charge from the capsule case, which in turn, connects to an A/C socket via a USB-C charging cable and an electrical adapter.

If something went wrong along the charging line, both your earbuds or only one of them might have been left without power.

So, here are a few steps to charge your Skullcandy earbuds sufficiently:

  1. Connect the USB-C end of the cable to your case.
  2. Plug the other USB end of the wire into an adapter.
  3. Connect the electrical adapter to a proven source.
  4. Put both your Skullcandy earbuds into the capsule.
  5. Close the lid and leave the earbuds for 10 minutes.

You can know that the Skullcandy case is charging when the LED on the left of the micro USB port turns red.

When your case is fully charged, the same LED will turn green as an indication.

Quick Tip: To check if your Skullcandy earbuds are charging, when you open the lid, the LED of each bud must be colored in solid red.

3. Clear the Earbuds Contacts

Asking why one of my Skullcandy earbuds stopped working? Probably because of no battery!

The previous step must have helped you identify whether your Skullcandy earbuds are charging when they are in the capsule.

Well, if there is no red light on the earbuds when they are within the case, this generally means that your capsule is dead or your earbuds don’t make contact.

Note: Skip this step if your Skullcandy earbuds are charging correctly!

Where to Find the Charging Terminals?

Unlike many other earbuds, with Skullcandy, the charging terminals are easily visible because of their golden cover finish.

The terminals are located on the upper side of the charging capsule.

Their respective counterparts are located on each earbud set right next to the rubber tips.

So when you put the earbuds into the case, the terminals make contact, and charging commences.

How to Detect Issues/Clean Terminals?

The charging contacts (terminals) should be visible within the case on each of your Skullcandy earbuds.

If the terminals are bent, missing, or forced down, they may not contact with the buds, hence leaving one of them, or both, without charge.

Additionally, you should verify that nothing is obstructing those terminals such as earwax, dust, hair, and other potential particles.

We recommend cleaning them using only soft and dry cloth.

Note: If your terminals are damaged, either on the buds or on the case, you may need servicing for restoration or warranty replacement.

4. Turn Up the Output Volume

So, if both of your Skullcandy earbuds suddenly stopped working out of the blue, you may have decreased the volume accidentally.

There are two instances, (device-based), where you can adjust the volume of your Skullcandy earbuds.

So let’s take a closer look at how to increase it.

  • To turn up the volume, press the right earbud twice.
  • To decrease the volume, press the left earbud twice.

However, this is not the only place where the volume could be low.

Your device’s volume can also mute your earbuds, making you believe that they are not working.

So, press the Volume (+) button on your phone several times to ensure that the sound is not muted through the software.

Note: If your Skullcandy earbuds are paired to a laptop or computer, increase the volume from the audio settings.

5. Adjust your Audio Balance

Well, Skullcandy earbuds stopped working in one ear, the audio balance on your device is likely misconfigured.

The audio balance is essentially a feature that allows you to make one of your earbuds louder/quieter or completely muted, to provide solutions for muffled audio output.

6. Unpair & Re-pair the Earbuds

As we approach further into the guide, it’s strongly recommended to unpair and pair the earbuds to your playback device.

The Bluetooth connection is the fundamental wireless link between the device and the Skullcandy earbuds.
