How to Fix Whenever the Onn Roku TV Volume Not Working?

Note: Have you made sure that the TV isn’t muted, or the volume is lowered all the way down?

1. Conduct an Emergency TV Restart

Apart from powering off the TV manually or unplugging it from the power, all Roku OS versions have the so-called emergency restart function. 

By inputting a combination on the remote control rather quickly, your TV’s screen will flip out for a minute and the system will reboot.

Try the emergency restart by following these steps:

1. Ensure the TV is powered on and connected to power.
2. Press the onn remote’s “Home” button exactly 5 times.
3. Next, proceed by pressing the “Rewind” button twice.
4. To begin the reboot, press the “Fast Forward” twice.

Now, your TV will start chaotically going through the settings but do not press anything further on the remote.

After a short period, the display will turn off and remain like so for about 30–40 seconds, before the reboot sequence commences, allowing you to test. 

2. Unplug the Onn Roku TV’s Power

Well, a standard, yet greatly effective solution to address issues with the volume controller is to disconnect the TV from the power supply for a lasting amount of time.

The longer your TV stays disconnected, the better it will power cycle, presenting a greater probability of tackling the issue.

Here are the detailed instructions on how to power cycle the onn Roku TV:

1. Press the “Power” button on the onn Roku TV’s remote.
2. Wait until the TV powers off and unplug it from the power.
3. After a full 60 seconds, plug the TV’s adapter into power.
4. Turn on the onn Roku TV and test the volume functions.

Note: To address underlying power issues with the TV, ensure that the power wire is in good condition, change the power outlet, and remove third-party power equipment.

3. Inspect the Remote’s Functionality 

In case the onn Roku TV remote volume not working, there’s a lineup of things to try to restore the functionality of the remote’s volume.

 If you’ve already tried placing the batteries in and out or changing them, don’t forget there’s also a way to reset the remote or try to address hardware issues.

Here are several effective methods to address issues with the remote!

3.1 Inspect/Replace Batteries:

As established, the first thing to try is testing or replacing the remote control’s batteries.

For that purpose, pop-open the battery compartment of the remote, take both AAA batteries out of the slot, and hold the remote’s “Power” button for 10 seconds. 

Note: If that didn’t have any effect, then install a new set of triple-A batteries into the remote!

3.2 Check for IR Interference:

Similar to standard onn remotes, the Roku onn remote also uses infrared signals to communicate with the TV.

Ensure there aren’t any solid obstructions with the TV’s line of sight, check for other nearby devices that potentially use IR, and move closer to the TV.

Additionally, ensure there’s no dust or debris on the IR lamp of the remote control or TV.

3.3 Reset the Remote to Defaults:

A simple way to reset the remote to factory defaults is to praxis and hold the “Back” and “Home” buttons simultaneously for at least 20 seconds.

Then, reinsert the supplying batteries and check if the TV’s volume can be controlled now. 

4. Tweak the Onn Roku TV’s Audio Settings

Although the audio settings do not have a direct impact on the volume’s functionality, they could often play a significant role in the quality.

The Roku OS has a lineup of important audio settings and misconfiguring them could also lead to a loss of audio.

You can adjust the audio settings by pressing on the “Star” button and going to “Advanced sound settings” or “Sound settings.”

So, here’s how to properly adjust the audio settings:

Audio Mode Settings

You can pick between “Standard,” “Dialogue,” “Movie,” “Music” and “Night” audio modes but for the most effective performance, we recommend “Standard.”

Audio Output Settings

Assign the following values to the audio output settings:

• Speech clarity: Set to 80%-90% for optimal performance.
• Volume modes: Set to “Leveling” for optimal performance.
• Treble: Set all frequencies to above 50% for optimal performance.
• Bass: Set all frequencies to above 50% for optimal performance.

Once the configuration is complete, save the changes and exit the tab. 

Virtual Sound (Sound/Streambar Only)

If you have the Roku soundbar or streambar with the TV, ensure the Virtual Sound feature is set to “On,” otherwise you may be unable to hear the TV’s output.

Expanded Stereo Settings

In the same tab, you could also find the “Expanded Stereo Settings,” allowing you to switch between “Movies and TV,” “Music” and “Off.”

We recommend testing on either of those settings by starting with “Off” at first to determine if the output will be restored.

5. Disconnect Third-Party Audio Devices

The Roku OS does not allow for manual adjustments of the TV’s default audio device.

Hence, the TV’s default audio device selection works based on what’s currently plugged into the panel. 

If a potentially defective audio device, such as a soundbar, a speaker, or an audio system is connected, the TV’s volume will be temporarily suppressed. 

Note: In order to revert to the TV’s default audio, disconnect the HDMI or Optical cable over which the device is connected. 

6. Update the Roku TV OS Version

An outdated version of the Roku OS could also be the reason why the onn Roku TV volume not working.

Our current recommendation is to navigate within the settings menu and check if the TV is updated to the most current version of the firmware, by checking the “Last checked”.

Here’s how to update the Roku OS to the most current version:

1. From the “Home” page, navigate to the “Settings” tab.
2. Go down to “System” and scroll to “System Update.”
3. Press the highlighted “Check now” button at the top.
4. Next, press “Continue” if a new firmware is detected.
5. Wait until the TV initiates the firmware check procedure.

If a newer firmware has been detected, all you need to do is press “Continue” in order to initiate the process.

Finally, wait until the TV starts updating by itself and upload the most current build.

Note: Your onn Roku TV must have a secure internet connection in order to update!

7. Reset the Onn Roku TV’s System Settings

So, if everything else fails, and you’re still unable to hear the TV’s volume, it’s time for a factory reset.

The procedure will irreversibly erase ALL the TV’s settings and configurations, but it could be the only way to address this issue.

Here’s how to factory reset the onn Roku TV:

1. Press “Home” on the onn Roku TV remote control.
2. Select “Settings” and navigate to the “System” tab.
3. Select “Advanced system settings” within the tab.
4. Go to “Factory Reset” to proceed with the process.
5. Select “Factory reset everything” in order to start.

Note: After verifying the reset, cease all interactions with the TV for 1–2 minutes and check if the volume is there once the device reboots.
